Um... "hypothetical situation" here...
Say I "a freind of mine" gets Naruto fansubs from a freind. Recently, I "he" found out Naruto is being dubbed soon. Yet it will be on Cartoon Networt, a channel I don't "he" doesn't get. Can I "he" still morally get the fansubs, or would that be wrong?

Morals are for each person to decide on their own.
Personally, if it's a friend who gives you the subs, I wouldn't say it's the WORST thing you could do. Though it would be best if you plan to buy the official release when it comes out as well.

In case people weren't aware, there IS something called the "Fansubbers Ethic". I will post it here, so that people will know about it.
Please bear in mind that this is general, and this wording is not "official" or anything.
1. Fansubs are to be made ONLY of non-liscensed material. When a series is liscensed, subtitling of new episodes should stop, as well as distribution of old episodes. 2. Fansubs are to be distributed for free. For non-digital releases (VCD or VHS), media and a self-addressed, stamped envelope are to be sent to the group. ((Note: In the old days of VHS fansubs, many groups would have a small fee to cover the price of a tape, shipping, and VCR maintenance, but this was few and far between))
That being said, I know that at least one group has dropped Naruto. vanman and I are planning on buying the Naruto DVDs once they are released, however, we personally are still downloading the episodes. Why? Because even if the DVDs start coming out in the fall, with 4 episodes on each, and one DVD every other month (standard release), it will be almost 3 years before they are caught up to where we are, and by that time, they will be much further.

As long as his site doesn't die, I guess I'll keep getting the subs.

On that note, the AoD forums now has an e-bay section. You might want to check back there from time to time. Most of the people who post there are pretty reputable.

I heard they were releasing Naruto eps 13 eps per disc from a reputable site. But it's kinda iffy since they only started a short time ago... Unless they stole from the fan subbers.

Well, I'm not sure if we're thinking the same thing, but according to the Viz Panel at Comic-con, they were gonna release the uncut episodes of Naruto in Box Sets, 13 episodes per set, supposedly by this month next year. On a side note, the edited versions of the show were scheduled for DVD release this coming March.

Ah! Ok. Per SET sounds more legit then per DISK. I don't think any sites are offering pre-orders for it yet though.

Got another tip on getting discounted anime!
Sign up for newsletters from ies. They often have coupons or discount codes if you order stuff from their websites. For example, in the July 2005 newsletter from CPM, there's a code for 40% off their manga.
Also, if you're part of an anime club with at least 20 members, sign up for FUNimation's Operation Anime. Once per month, your club can receive a free copy of one of the available anime (my club got FMA volume 1) for screening. All you have to do is return the questionaires they send you (along with postcards and neat promo stuff). And the bottom of the questionaires is a coupon for 40% off the DVD you screened.

If you try to get a Chinese version of any particular anime title that you like, look at the character or symbols. Those Chinese characters, notice that are written in Chinese instead of Japanese, if there was written in katakana, hiragana, or sometimes Japanese kanji. If they say it's a legitmate Chinese title, then it's considered as a real product.

Shikiminami: You mean Hong Kong bootlegs; those are the cheap ones. Legit products usually cost twice as much as buying domestic. But Bootlegs suck in subbing and quality, and are really only good if you just want to see the series.

Well, animators get payed a rediculously low amount of money for the work they do. And the people who sell and produce bootleg anime are normally from orginsed crime groups and are actually very well to do.
So yeah, your spin doesn't hold water.
