Disclaimer: I own nothing! So, no-one sues  Since we have this: project-apollo.net/text/rpg.html, I decided we need a cliché list for anime and maybe some manga. (How do you do that thing with text and a hyperlink when you click the text?) I hope you've the read the list, if not, read it, it's funny XD! Especially when you compare it to your favourite RPG! Well... presenting... The Grand List Of Anime Clichés!*insert music* Just pick a genre and add some rules, I'll start... Magical Girl1. Always 5 girls, any more and you're an extra. 2. Lots and lots of bishies, you gotta love 'em. 3. Transformations. Must be pretty, or you're not a magical girl. 4. Qualites of a leader: Ditzy, happy-go-lucky. Angsty? No... 5. Of course, you're supposed to be a girl >_>, duh! Add as much as you want! |

Main female character MUST fall in love with her best friend and cry and say "NO I CAN'T LOVE MY BEST FRIEND!!!!!122221111"
There must be 2812380193721 pantyshots in the first Episode (I'm looking at you, Kannaduki no Miko.)
The plot and general flow of the series as a whole must be confusing and stupid, but it has panty shots and girls kissing so nobody cares.
There MUST be some sort of magical powers involved, so that our main characters are deeply involved through destiny, cause destiny = romantic fluff loz
and most of all
NO SEX. Lesbians don't have sex. They just kiss and tell eachother how beautiful they are. SILLIES.

No matter how much blood you loose, if your a main charcter, Death by bloodloss is NOT AN OPTION. >0<
You are not a main character if you havent died once, or had a near death experiance.
No matter the timeframe, there will always be a character with a sword of some kind.

Uh, I think this has already bin done... I'd find a link, but... Hmmm...not sure myself. The only one I could find that's close to this thread is Resurie's The Laws of Anime. So I'm going to leave this one up to Lovely if she wants it locked or not. |

Actually... those aren't very accurate for Maho Shoujo... #1- Sailor Moon (arguably the most famous Maho Shoujo series in the US) has 10, MKR has 3, My HiME has... far too many... CCS has 1, Ojamajo Doremi started with 3, went to 7... I could go on and on, but I haven't been watching much Maho Shoujo lately... #2- Really, in Maho Shoujo, there generally aren't many bishies. MS is more aimed toward younger girls... There's usually up to one bishie per girl, and occassionally there will be two competing for the main character (but only if they're older). #3- Prettiness has nothing to do with it. It's more "what won't get annoying seeing it as stock footage 10 million times." (sorry, as an animator, I know how that really is) #4- No ansgt in a MS leader? I have YET to see a Maho Shoujo series without angst... Except for possibly Pretty Sammy, but that's a parody series anyway. #5- Okay, yeah, the girl part I can't argue with. |

Shonen:
- If the main character is a guy, chances are, his parents/parental figures are dead/disowned him/are nowhere to be found.
- The main character may have a birthdate of particular importance. Like Christmas Day. Or New Years.
- Always one guy with some dark symbolic past/scar that's never explained. emo guyz oh noes.
- If there's a cute girl, the main character likes her. Always. and they're best friends from their first meeting, usually.

I'd disagree on that one. Granted, if you are watching the show in Japanese, then the dialogue presented to you is Japanese, but within the show itself, that may not always be true. In many shows, the actual language the characters are speaking is not Japanese. Sakura Taisen has many different languages that the individual characters speak (although they all learn Japanese), and in Escaflowne, all of the Gaian characters speak the Gaian language. There's plenty of others, those are just the ones I can think of. |
