I did a search, and I don't believe that there are any threads about the series, so here we go. I just recently found out about Loki thanks to a friend who told me about the OnDemand dub. Of course, after seeing how cute Heimdall was, and knowing that Paku Romi was his Japanese seiyuu... I had no choice but to buy the DVDs. (My friend is probably regretting the introduction now, because much to her annoyance I've become freakishly obsessed with Heimdall. ^^ The bonuses for the series are also abundant and pleasing. Has anyone looked at the torrent for it on ADV's website? They have a textless opening and ending for download, as well as some great desktops. (Though it is ironic that they're using Bit Torrent, a key asset in fansub distribution, to promote the legitimate copies...) Another awesome perk is the set of seiyuu talks kept in the English releases. (Volume four has features Romi. )

It's not your obsession that annoys me, it's the fact that your trying to make *Inu wraps a Sano headband around my mouth and smothers me, preventing further speach* Is it volume one that has Koyasu in the seiyuu talks? Yep, Faust's VA is in Ragnarok too. As is Hiro from Fruits Basket. And Honda Tohru from Fruits Basket (this is all referring to the Japanese, of course.) More on this as they are discovered. Now, to find volume one....

Love the show myself. I watched it about a year or two ago in fansubs, and I'm collecting the ADV series now and immensely enjoying the dub. I'm up to volume 5 so far.
Now, it's not that I was DISLIKED Mayura in the anime, but for some reason she comes off as slightly less annoying in the English version. (I do like her, but she had her moments.)
Anyways, the dub is great because Heimdall has the voice of Greg Ayres! Squee! I love his voice, and he does a good job. Only voice that's... somewhat painful is Koutaro's voice. It's not so much the VA himself, it's just the way he's directed to play the role is out-of-character. He tones down the nasal/poshiness in each subsequent volume though, so it works out.

Love this series so much! I just got volume 6 yesterday, oh so much Heimdall love! Im a huge Heimdall fan myself (as people can tell by my LJ) Im working on a fansite for him right now.
The dubbed voices are good, pretty much match the originals to some extent. I agree with Lovely on Koutaro. He sounds like the rich kid he is. As she stated, he does tone it done as the volumes go on.
This is a must see!

I found the manga the other day at a store. I flipped through it and it seems quite different than the anime, at least order-wise, as I didn't really get a chance to read it. The black dog (blanking on his name, knows it starts with an 'f' as do half the names in that series) was in it, first chapter in volume one. Already there. Does anyone know which came first? The manga or the anime? I know that some series do not fall under the 'manga-then-anime' category. [and then there's Law of Ueki, with the manga-then-anime-then-manga again.]

Oh no, you got Lovely started on a topic that she actually knows a bit about. RUN! THE RAMBLE AND INFO MAY NEVER END!!! See the manga is special. It was released as TWO series, but technically, the second series is just a continuation. So technically, it's really volume... 6 or something. Even though it says one. What happened is that the publisher changed, so they released the books under a slightly different name. First series-- "Matantei Loki" (Mythical Detective Loki) Second series-- "Matantei Loki Ragnarok (Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok) ADV came in and only liscenced the SECOND series. So basically, the US release starts RIGHT in the middle of the story. Because it's a direct continuation and not really a new series, there really isn't any explanations of went on before. Basically, and this is my personal view, ADV was kind of stupid to release this. They should of tried to get the first series as well, or not release it at all. Or at least wait until they released the anime so that things would make a BIT more sense. Anyways, the manga came first. The anime came later and basically over exagerated all the odd traits of the characters. I think it was a fun way to go personally . (I hate it when anime and manga are EXACTLY the same.) For example, in the manga, Mayura is smarter ^^;. The begining (the real begining) of the manga series also had ACTUAL mysteries that Loki went and solved that didn't always have supernatural origins. Oh, and manga-Loki was a bit um... evilier and mischevious in the begining. Anyways, ADV's manga publishing division is basically dead for the most part now. They stopped releasing Loki at volume 2. Recently though, ADV gave some of their Titles to Tokyopop, including another Kinoshita series called "Tactics" (Sakura Kinoshita is the author of Loki.) So I'm hoping that TP will pick up BOTH series of Loki as well. From how I understand it though, the company who owns the rights to the first series are being a pain .

Whoah, they're finally continuing Tactics?! HAPPY DAY HAPPY DAY. Even though Tokyopop has the japanese knowledge of a retarded parakeet, I do so long to read the manga. 8O
As for Maloki, I need to watch it. I have fansubs sitting around and I never got around to it. ;( I hope it's as good as/better than Tactics.

ADV came in and only licensed the SECOND series. Wait, what- WHAT? You mean ADV just cut off half the series? DX *knows very little nothing about the manga* So... does it make sense at all, or is it just completely incomprehensible? O__o *Hopes that there won't be a lot of Heimdall missing* Hee hee. I agree about making the anime and manga the same. It's... boring. I mean, look at series like Fullmetal Alchemist and Shaman King. They're far more fun to read because of the anime's divergence from the original story. If you already knew exactly how everything played out, where would the fun be, right? A smarter Mayura... sounds... nice? *shrug* She kind of annoys me in the anime... I thinks it's the way that she says "mystery" in Engrish in every other sentence. Is the more mischievious Loki more mischievious in the sense that his character is more closely based upon the Norse god's? Because in the actual mythology, he does seem a lot less likeable. (And a lot weirder.) As the God of mischief and pranks, the legends say that the reason for his punishment (the punishment also being different from that of the anime) was his role in Odin's son's death. (Apparently he made a dart out of mistletoe, the only plant that hadn't vowed not to hurt the God's son... Weird story, anyway...) So... yeah. ^^; Darn straight. But I won, didn't I? And technically that whole debate did spur because of the obsession, so... On a final note, yes, Horie Yui, Takehito Koyasu, and Yuriko Fuchizaki are all part of the show's star voice cast. ^-^ Not to mention Takahiro Sakurai, who voiced Cloud Strife in the Concubine Advent Children movie. (Don't ask about the alternate title, it's an inside joke based on a rather scatter-brained friend's confusion.) (*hides from the scatter-brained friend*) Greg Ayres? Is that who it is? Hmm... I honestly didn't think too well of him upon watching episode 3 on TV, but then I ended up liking him in episodes 13-16. ^-^ (Perhaps he had to get into character?) He seems pretty good, especially considering that I'm always a bit harsh on anyone dubbing a Paku Romi character. (Whoever voiced Ueki was very disappointing, by the way...) Oh, and Usagi, I purchased the first two DVDs online last night, and intend to buy the third sometime soon as well. You'd better watch them with me! >.< And no squeeing over Takehito, unless I'm sitting far enough away to protect my ears. ...*pets her icon*

You'll enjoy the DVD's, Heimdall comes in in episode 3!

Buy/watch the official release . No point since I already have them+ADV does a crappy job and I could use the money to buy the rest of the Mushishi Manga. I watched a little bit of the first episode (I watch things slowly), not as interesting as Tactics' start in my opinion, but I'll give it a go for now.

But but but! Arcade-san! If you don't buy the actual licensed DVDs, you don't get all the awesome extras!!! They have interviews with the Japanese voice actors, and dub bloopers! 'I'm happy to see that my sister's so full of vig-vin- vineger?' Oh, and can anyone tell me what Koyasu-sensei's character Frey is in Norse mythology? I tried looking it up, but couldn't really find anything...
