Hello!
I don't know where to start *thinks*....hm...
Well for starters, I've recently been sucked back into the whole Shaman King fandom after having always missed the episodes dubbed and I feel rather dumb for having not made myself wake up earlier (Now the show's been moved to a later timeslot so its easier to watch on Saturdays). Let me say, the dub is at times unbearable but the series overall is pretty good.
I've recently started reading the manga and lately I've been wanting to kick myself for having not gotten into it earlier. See, almost every summer I make annual trips to Montréal, Quebec (Canada) and usually---or rather, always-- when I'm there I go on a french-manga-buying spree that its not even funny. For years I kept seeing Mankin and there were people discussing it and buying it and it never did appeal to me, in fact like with most series I spot in french I make prejudgements before having read them. Then fairly recently (aka this week) my friend lent me her CDRs with scanlations and read it and Oh My GOD. its amazing! Story, artwork and all! And yes, I do plan to buy it this summer =P
....*oh someone shoot me for this*.....The english version must be at volume 4 or 5-ish by now at least (I wouldn't know so...)....the french version is at 23 and is much cheaper to buy than the english one (due to exchange rates between US and Canadian dollars, most mangas are 12$ and up. French version market price is 9,99$-12$ CDN but there are used bookstores in Montreal that sell them for like 5-7$.) That's why I usually buy french versions of certain manga series. A) They're cheaper B) Not alot of the publishers have magazines (only one does but its for "test driving" series I find) so waiting for a volume isn't affected by how many chapters are published in the magazine.
Anyway, the main site, I want to say to the webmistress I enjoy reading your comparisons between the two versions and as I don't really have access to the original fansubs its good to get a good idea as to what changed and to what extent. Keep it up! =D
In terms of favorite characters, I like Horo Horo and Ryu lots as well as Manta all very funny and cute (and cool) characters. (How I was always getting a big kick out of all those times Ryu's head was cut...xD)
I do in fact draw but I'm terrible at maintaining an art site let alone an art account (proof is shown by the lack of submissions to my DA account for the last 3-months due to school). And I don't have a scanner so my art is just thought up and drawn on the computer. ^^
So, enough of the semi-boring intro, I hope to get to know some of you guys here as you all sound quite funny and friendly and I hope I enjoy my stay here! =D
Two questions:
Any other Canadians here perchance?
and
Regarding the abrupt ending for the manga...did it stop @ volume 30? Because I went into the volume publishing section of the japanese Weekly Shonen Jump site to see the count and I'm not seeing the word (kanji in this case) "End/Complete" on there...
