Has anyone played Secret of Mana for the SNES or it's sequel, Legend of Mana for the PS1? I have both and they're amazing! Anyway, discuss these games here.........
Note: No, Sword of Mana does not count because it's a remake of the first Final Fantasy game on the GB.

Yeah, I played Sowrd of Mana and I beat Secret of Mana! Secret of Mana would have been my fav. SNES game if it wasn't lacking so much in character development!
I mean the characters don't have much of any personality!!
Now, Sieken Densetsu 3 on the other hand was by far a better sequel. I have a ROM of it on my harddrive that I play every once in a while. I always play the part of Hawk the thief! And bring along the Amazon from Rolante and the Knight "Duran" I believe his name was. great game that had a shifting plot due to who you chose as your leader and who you chose as followers!

Woah! If you never played Sieken Densetsu (Jap. for Secret of Mana) then you my friend are missing out.
It was made for the SNEs and never brought overseas. Dang Jap.'s always hogging all the cool game for themselves.
They made an official sequal to Secret of Mana. Actually SOM in the U.S. is the second game of the series. I've never played the original first game. the third game has you assemble your party in the beginning from a group of six. you pick your leader and two other players. And in the order you chose them they will eventually join you. The game is awesome because every character has a much more in depthe story then the (boy, girl, sprite) of SOM.
The game allows you to also evolve your characters to new classes as they gain strength. Ex: My thief can level up to a ranger if I follow the path of light or a ninja if I follow darkness. They branch twice and your character goes through a bit of a costume change as well. Your enemies are also different depending on your party. Each character has their own nemesis.
The game was never translated by Square either. It was done by hackers so the original story is kept in tact and their are no horribly lame jokes like the one's that the Square people add in. The game is as close to perfection as any SNES RPG could get.

Would the first game be Legend of Mana? If not, where does that fall into place?

I believe that the PS game was a branch sequal that didn't affect the Secret of Mana series.
Plus Secret of Mana came out before Playstation was completed so it couldn't be the prequal.
Sieken Densetsu 1 was either never translated and brought overseas or it was under a different name. And no Secret of Evermore is not the prequal. It's just a rip-off of Secret of Mana.

I've beaten SoM many many times. It's the one legal ROM I have ^^;; Yes, I have a working SNES. Pathetic, ne?
I like SoM, though. It's as good as the Final Fantasy series. I've just played it so many times it's gotten boring ^^;;
I started playing Seiken Densetsu (sp?) 3, but then my computer crashed and I lost the game. I'll start playing again... eventually... after I get the Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories bug out of my system.

*Deep breath* Here I go...
If you want to know the exact chronology of the SeikenDensetsu series, then I am happy to share. The first game in the series was Final Fantasy Adventure/Sword of Mana. The second game was Secret of Mana. The third was obviously SeikenDensetsu 3, and the fourth installment was Legend of Mana.
*whew*
That said, my favorite would have to side with Jr, as SD3 is just the best game overall in character development, story, and 3 seperate paths to take in the game. I won't spoil anything, but depending on which of the six characters you pick as your main character affects the events, dungeons, and even final bosses that you fight! Very cool. ;D

My girlfriend first got me into SeikenDensetsu 3 when I saw her playing it on the ROM.

being a gamestop manager has it's benefits ;D Dude you have the awsomest job in the world!!! XD I would love to get out of fast food. I can't wait until I'm finished with college!! I stumbled upon Seiken densetsu on some site that had a review of it. Any game that had a Jap. type nam I stayed away from since I thought it wasn't translated. Boy was I glad I found that game. It also has the three player party too. Too bad you can't really do that on a comp. unless you use controllers and a USB hub.

Weeeeeee..........this game is fun! But now I'm annoyed that I picked fighter as main and thief as partner! Thief can actually attack twice! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.................... Once again, thanks Jr.

Lol. It's not as fun as it sounds(after being there for about 2 years, it's getting a little old). Ah, well, at least that's why I'm still in college too. ;D
Som, the fighter is actually very good as a main character. He can do more overall damage than the thief most of the time. Later in the game, when you get the elemental sword spells for him, he can do massive damage.
example: fighting ice-type boss...^-^ *cast flame saber* = 700 + damage >< each character has his or her own strengths and weaknesses.

My girlfriend first got me into SeikenDensetsu 3 when I saw her playing it on the ROM. What, so now I can't even get named? Sheesh... You wouldn't've even know about SD3 if it weren't for me...
