Ok, earlier today, I was doing my glitch research on the old Pokemon games (I have no life...). I wanted to see if you could trade a Missingno (glitch Pokemon) to a Gold and Silver game. I turned on my game, and it didn't have my save file! I tried making a new game, saved it, and turned it off. Later, I went back to my game and, NO SAVE DATA! I'm very confused, if someone could explain, I would be very grateful. Don't be afraid to post your own weird game glitches or odd happenings, though.

I've never even heard of that pokemon. I remember when everyone around me was going through the secret hidden pokemon craze, I was too afraid to try to get them. I thought I'd heard somewhere that it could mess up your game. Why do I have a memory of standing outside my old church back where I used to live, next to a rock with a crowd of kids around it, all teaming about to try to get a view of this one kid on the rock who had a gameboy. The pokemon he was battleing for some reason I remember as being like a SudoWoodo, but this was before the Gold and Silver games.
Here's a glitch. The way that you can see through certain walls in Nintendo 64's Zelda; Ocarina of Time (which I still haven't beaten.) if you walk close enough to them.

Missingno can hurt your game, if you're not careful. No one really knows how Missingno got into the game. There is a long theory, but I'm not going to go into it, as I am already off topic. Point is, you CAN catch it without any real issues with your game (The Hall of Fame will be messed up but not much else). Just leave a spot open in your party, and NEVER deposit him in your PC. *realizes that he just went on a long rant* Well, I actually found another glitch for the old Super Mario game, where you can go into world -1. It's annoying, because the world is an infinite loop, but it's still possible to visit.

Missingno.'s a side-effect of the way the game stores data, I believe, along with the infinite item glitch and the lvl 100+ Pokemon (all of which are activated the same way)
Also, I once got infinite continues in the SNES version of Pitfall: the Mayan Adventure. Damned if I know how I did it, though...

I think I read about the Missingno in the crystal cheat book (cant remeber where I read about them but the crystal book is the only one I've read.)
I think if you dont capture them your item that in #3 or something like that becomes infinate...
But I recall small problems happing from them...
Did you start with a Red or Green game and try to trade up? Or go the other route and go for a Crystal to Silver? I dont think trading up will work...(well just those glitch pokemon)
I wish you luck with it.

Missingno. is NOT a glitch. It was put in for the game testers, so they could get through the game faster. You get swim about halfway through the game, so once you get that you don't have to worry about levelling up pokemon anymore, since you can get infinite rare candy, and beat the game faster. They just never took it out for the final version.

Dessa: I did not know that... Eliza: I actually tried that a while ago, it comes up as Lugia... on time travel too! Lagowe: Yeah, I heard about that Pitfall glitch, I have it somewhere, I forget where. Wow, I just realized how nerdish I am...

There's also some sort of glitch that lets you duplicate pokemon on gold/silver. I don't remember it exactly, but it was something like when you trade with a friend, you turn the gameboy off at a certain point. I think you turn it off while changing PC boxes, before the it says "saving".

Yup... it helps when you have friends who are game testers at Nintendo.

i've been called glitch hunter so many times ..... the only thing missingno ( missing number ) can hurt i believe is your hall of fame. it makes it seem like you have fought things you haven't (and most of the time glitch pokemon are used ) if you battle with it it evolves in to kankaskhan.. and one more thing..... how long have you had the game? can you give me all of the details ? do you know how many hours you had played the game? (sorry to ask so many questions i just need this info to give you a clear answer just one more question.... did missingno's name show up as .M ? from what i know it can destroy your game data........ in case you haven't noticed i'm facinated with glitches

I've heard that, too. I've fought with mine lots, (yes, I have one!) but it never evolved, just changed wierd levels (lv100 to 96 wtf?)
I'm not sure about that stuff, but I think I've had my game since like, 1999. Hours are... a LOT.
M' is diffrent. It can and will destroy your game data. DON'T catch it! I learned this the hard way.
You and me both! =D

Ah yes. Missingno. I remember him. I didn't really like him much. Sure, he duplicates items, but if you duplicate rare candies and use them, where's the fun in leveling up your pokemon? (I'm proud of the only level 100 pokemon I've ever gotten. It happens to be a Blaziken on my Sapphire game, but still.) Didn't know he was actually there for the testers though. Interesting.
I remember another glitch in the old versions. It was where you press start right after stepping within range of a certain trainer west of Lavendar Town, fly to Cerulean, defeat this one trainer with a level 17 slowpoke, fly back to Lavendar, and then if you go back to the route where the other trainer was, you fight a level 7 mew. It really works. And I'd make screens of it if my Red version would actually play (which, sadly, it doesn't anymore...)

Ahh yes, I forgot about that one. You can do it to get other pokemon, too. Try doing this trick with any trainer you happen to find, and different pokemon show up. You can't do it in FR/LG though (Damn programmers caught the trick and rearranged some people... jerks!)

i think i know what happened...... it may have been the internal battery.. i don't know the details, but if the internal battery goes dead, it stops holding the save. most of the time it's after 200 some hours... and...don't feel bad it's happened to 2 of my games.. one was my pride and joy gold version.. i had a level 100 typhlosion on it.. and the other was my silver. but my blue, red, and yellow are all fine because i didn't play them as much.. and i'm going to experiment with glitch city now.. Bye 4 now ^-^

That's creepy, my Gold and Silver are the only ones effected as well... My others (Red and Yellow) are fine.
Mysterious...
