A friend of mine told me that the Shaman King dub isn't really getting very good ratings. Imo, this is good news since it may force/convince 4Krap to shift their policies and perhaps finally allow subbed releases. Also, this is going to be my last post here for awhile. The reason why is I because don't want to risk accidentally spoiling anymore of the series until I've read all of the mang first as that's happened with a few things. So far I've read SJ and scanlations of SK volumes 4 and 5 and I think I've got about 10 more volumes to go. If any of you guys could send me the rest I may come back to boards slightlier earlier.

Actually, I don't see this as good news at all. The better the ratings the more likely 4kids would release the show on DVD. If the show gets bad ratings, why would they want to waste more money on it by releasing it if they think they are going to loose money.
I'd really like to see some proof of the show loosing ratings though. Like an article somewhere. They haven't pulled it from FoxBox yet like Fox and WB have done in the past or current (Astroboy).

This is off-topic, but... where have you been getting your scanlations?

A friend sent em to me. At the rate Viz is going it'll be at least 4 more years before SJ finishes the manga. But, I don't have any objections to getting scans since I already subscribe to SJ.

ok did any of you think that if the show is getting bad ratings than not only will they not releace it on DVD but the proboly will stop the show on TV all together and i have to say that the dub is sooooo bad it makes me want to cry but isnt it beter to have a bad dub than the show not be on the air at all i really just want them to fix the dub

It's a possibility, but 4kids is bringing in a lot money; enough to keep the show running until the end, or at least until their contract runs out.

It's not going to be exactly like the original. But I think 4kids did a pretty good job with the show. I've seen a lot worse dubs out there.

quite frankly, the shaman king dub is not terrible-terrible, but is not okay either- it is between the point of it being okay and bad (closer to bad). in response to what u said at the beginnig, GreatSaiyaman777, i believe if the sk dub gets not-so-great ratings, i think that is somewhat good news as well. just to remind all u other people (IF u havnt heard it 1000 times), there was much complaint about the Sakura Cardcaptors dub. eventually, the licensers gave it a subbed release. also, lets not forget that Dic entertainment had actually released uncut and uncensored Saint Seiya dvds somewhat recently. hopefully, 4kids will learn how to handle marketing properly...

there was much complaint about the Sakura Cardcaptors dub. eventually, the licensers gave it a subbed release. Correct me if I'm wrong...but neither the sub nor dub release on DVD were finished, right? also, lets not forget that Dic entertainment had actually released uncut and uncensored Saint Seiya dvds somewhat recently. This would probably also have to do with DIC Entertainment being bought back by their original founder. My only real issues with the SK dub are the voice overs for Silva's spirits...they cause seizures...no seriously, they're just not funny and the voices do grate on my nerves. That's a minor issue though. The storyline flows well, their hasn't been any major train wrecks, there hasn't been dialogue that doesn't make sense with facial expressions, and everything that's said syncs up well with the animation. Guys, it's a good dub. It's an astounding dub given the fact that it's in morning syndication! Looking back I've never known 4Kids to drop a series. Anybody know of any they have? Also, Series drops have been outstandingly done by WBKids, and Fox. But Fox doesn't own the Fox Box. Also, if there are other stations playing this series (UPN, and whatever Lovely watches) the other stations aren't going to sign a contract that goes: "...we will pay you for a 26 x 26 but if you decide the ratings are bad...you reserve rights to pull it from our station and we're tough out of luck..." Finally, 4Kids thinks outside the box alot...they push licensing contracts to toy companies, game companies...I hear that Shaman King had or has a CCG in Japan...CCGs are good money...young kids are gullible...it benefits 4Kids to keep Shaman King running to sell all the other merchandising. The show is not going anywhere. But a DVD release...mmm, probably not. 4Kids track record to release entire series on video has been one sided...the side of half-assed releases. I could be wrong on this too though if anyone knows of a 4Kids series that has been released in it's entirety? No? Didn't think so... I'd like to point out a different trend though: currently I'm picking up the entire GIJoe series...perhaps 15 years down the road some company like Kid Rhino will sell todays animations like Shaman King.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but neither the sub nor dub release [of Cardcaptor Sakura] on DVD were finished, right? Concerning Cardcaptor SakuraThe dub release wasn't finished due to bad sales, the Sub release did a good deal better than expected (especially considering that the DVD release had a sub track only) and it just finished up this year. Not only that, but a BRAND NEW (and accurate) dub was even made for the second movie. I know this because I own the entire U.S release of the sub ^_^ .

"My only real issues with the SK dub are the voice overs for Silva's spirits...they cause seizures..."
Dude, yeah. Especially the snake. *twitch*
"Looking back I've never known 4Kids to drop a series. Anybody know of any they have?"
None that I can think of.
And as a general statement, 4kids has done worse dubs before. Take a look at Yu-Gi-Oh and Sonic X. A lot of the voices don't match up with their characters (that's not to say I'm not a fan of the v/a's themselves, though!), and sometimes they make it so the storyline itself is completely different than the original. Considering what was kept and added into the SK dub ("jackass!" :O Yes, I'm still on that. xD), it's not nearly as bad, and looking at Lovely's comparison's, it's been getting better as time goes on.
Honestly, I wouldn't be suprised if SK came out on DVD, but I doubt it would be possible to have Japanese on it unless it was selling seperately because 4kids would have to put back everything they cut out.

"jackass". oh YEAAA i was hopping around for a week. that was SOOO funny. ur right, Yohko, considering the frickin storyline changes in Yugioh....ARRRGH.... "I've got to save the world!"(paraphrased quote by Yami) You're trying to retrieve your ancient memory and keep Malik from killing you, IDIOT. (I have complaints for the Japanese anime as well...sooo much of Bakura left out arrrr i'm waiting for that slow-arse manga to come out AHEM as i was saying) the SK dub isnt that bad...on THAT degree of story-changing. and in regards to the original topic, bad ratings are neeveeer good news. it would hurt me too much to see shaman king abused further by...GASP...bad ratings. T_T

I don't think Shaman King's dub isn't as bad as others, too, but it's not astounding. Well, it's actually pretty good. When I saw the first episode of Shaman King dubbed in English, I was actually smiling through the episode and that rarely ever happens with a 4Kids dub, but that dub theme song keeps getting stuck in my head whenever I hear it. ><
Looking back I've never known 4Kids to drop a series. Anybody know of any they have?
The WB stopped airing Megaman: NT Warrior which was dubbed by 4Kids, but last I've heard it was still airing in Canada. I'm not sure if Canada is airing anymore episodes than what the U.S. showed or not, though.
.

As far as I know, Pioneer is still continuing to release the never-ending Pokemon series on DVD.

...and they still won't put in a Japanese language track. Grrr. Has ANY 4Kids dubbed anime gotten a Japanese track with an official DVD release? Being more on-topic, the Shaman King dub didn't suffer as badly as some dubbed anime I've seen, in fact, it's halfway decent.

"The WB stopped airing Megaman: NT Warrior"
Ohh, so it WAS taken off the air. Thanks Takato. :D
[/pointless off topic post]
And to Oversoul: Not that I know of, sorry. Like I said before, they'd have to add in everything they cut out before (just to make the timing synch with the Japanese, should you decide to change languages in the middle of an ep) and I doubt they'd wanna waste their time doing that.
