Damn DirectManga. No freaking updates for the Mankin manga....

Anyways, does anyone know if the manga addresses or elaborates more on the fact that Anna looks like Hao's mother during his original life, which seems to imply that in a way, Hao is Anna's son? Plus, did it ever speak more about how Anna apparently has a power greater than most of the shaman participants' strength? There seemed to be some hintings of it during a scene when Anna gave Silva the Chou Senji Ryakketsu and apparently during a scene with her and the Hanagumi.....

The only thing that I know about Anna was that she was abandoned by her parents because she was able to see ghosts (but I'm not sure if this is accurate).

As for that Hao being Anna's son thing... that's kind of impossible. First, Anna would be pretty old if that was the case. Now if she was the reincarnation of Hao's mother, then I could buy that.

So is there any chance any of those getting US translations? I think it's pretty cool that a shonen title is a spinoff of a female character's series.

Shaman King could have worked as a shoujo. Yes, Lys and (a considerably prettier) Ryu would have been FLAMINGLY FLAMINGLY GAY for each other, but it could have worked. There would just have had to have been Obligatory Shounen-ai. The emotional undertones and completely original plot would have been perfect for aiming at a female audience. Takei's art style probably wouldn't have gone over well, though. He's too far from the norm. [/ranting]

It's my opinion that Anna is a new soul, not a reincarnation. (Although knowing Takei, she probably was being set up to be his reincarnated mom, and a post-Mu story arc would have explained it.)

But Hao can feel free to get drunk and be all "MOMMY!" and cling to her legs and get slapped.

I concur. There's something about Shaman King that seems to radiate 'shonen, but not quite shonen'. It has a slightly more complex aftertaste, if you ask me.... Late in the manga, it even seems that Takei has a lighter art style, passable as shoujo. The character designs in the last chapter are so damn sugary and clean, you'd have to wonder.

I think of Anna as a new soul, personally. I just don't see it, outside of her having a resemblance to the woman X3. Even then, the most I've seen of Hao's mother is the back of her head and the lower half of her face.
