This sucks. This really does. Especially since I haven't been able to get enough money myself to pay out the $150 for each box set yet. Sigh...why do they dissapoint me so all the time with this series? WHY???
--------------------- Mar 11, 2004 Sailor Moon Availability ADV Films today announced that the first 86 episodes of the original Sailor Moon television series will no longer be available in the U.S. on home video after April 1, 2004. Although the response of the fans and sales of this video series in both the dubbed- and uncut-subtitled format have been tremendously successful, the creators of the program have decided against continuing the availability of the home video in the U.S. at this time. All episodes released under ADV Films will remain available for sale in retail outlets while supplies last. -------------------

Apparently Toei is the animation "company of evil" in Japan. I feel really sorry for you Saturn (and all Sailor Moon fans).

I heard it was because ADV Films made a contract for the rights to Sailor Moon with Toei through DiC and because DiC's rights for Sailor Moon had run out, so did ADV's. I'm glad I picked up my copy of the boxsets when I did or else I would've been pissed, although I'm still pissed about the skipping of episode 67 and all the other numerous flaws the sets have.

Toei is just letting all the licenses run out. I'm assuming it has to do with the live action series that is currently running in Japan.

It's not like people are trying to bring it over here to the U.S. or anything and even if it did, it has nothing to do with the anime expcet for being called "Sailor Moon." Actually, I like PGSM and think it's better than the anime. The only thing I didn't like about it is the over-use of CGI.

What does the anime have to do with the live-action? Because Toei owns it all and they can do whatever they want with it? If they ever do let companies have licenses again for the anime/manga/live action versions then I think it's going to be much harder to sell. They are probably going to loose what fans are left over here. I actually am enjoying the live action version. It has it's own style and is unpredictable to the hard core Sailor Moon fan. The costumes are kind of silly. The CG cats are alright, although an interesting concept. I think I would be more scared if they decided to bring the live action version over here and make an English adaptation. *visions of Saban's promo dances through my head* We don't need that! *shudder*

But I still don't understand what the Sailor Moon anime in North America has anything to do with the live-action series. Just because Toei is letting all the licenses for the anime run out doesn't have anything to do with the live-action series and for the record, Toei doesn't even own the live-action. Bandai does.

Naoko Takeuchi and Toei own Sailor Moon, not Bandai. "But I still don't understand what the Sailor Moon anime in North America has anything to do with the live-action series. " If you own something you can do whatever you want with it even if it makes no sense. It might not be entirely because of the Live Action show, but that is the only reason that would possibly make them not continue renewing licenses for it. www.animenewsnetwork.com/reviews/display.php?id=605

Naoko Takeuchi owns all of Sailor Moon and Toei owns THE ANIME, but Bandai owns the LIVE-ACTION. You know how after the opening credits, the Bandai logo appears and they say "This program is brought to you by the key to fun, BANDAI. Please take a look at our sponsors." Now, if PGSM was owned by Toei, why wouldn't they say "This program is brought to you by Toei" instead of "This program is brought to you by Bandai." Bandai also owns the Sera-myu musicals.

It says it's BROUGHT to you by Bandai and please take a look at OUR sponsors. Bandai is advertising PGSM, they're bringing it to you. Why would Toei want you to take a look at your sponsor's sponsors?

Can we just say the rights are partially owned by Toei AND Bandai and end this argument already?

Geneon has now lost the rights to the Sailor Moon movies: www.smuncensored.com/news.php?id=69 This is kind of sad because I was hoping to buy all the movies on DVD. I already own the Sailor Moon R movie subbed both on VHS and DVD and the Sailor Moon S movie subbed on VHS and I have the subbed Sailor Moon Supers movie burned onto VCD, but I was hoping to at least buy the Sailor Moon Supers movie on DVD so I could own a legimate copy of it.
