anyone here a fan of it? and if so, who here finds it confusing sometimes? >< who feels like banging their head against a wall after watching it...ok exaggerated there...anyhoo any fans? ^^

I'm definetely not a fan of Lain. I watched it once...actually forced myself to finish it. It didn't make any sense until the very end. I'll never watch it again.

Not a good series.
I was with Saturn on that fateful watching...they used the same technique that was used in the movie Memento or the anime Perfect Blue...but to the Nth degree so you didn't understand what was going on until the very end in Lain...it was too much, I didn't care for it...
In fact, I'm willing to bet it was something like the Eva series where they just threw a bunch of stuff together and decided, "that was cool, let's come up with some weak plot that sorta brings most of these events back together at the end...and then tell our fans we planned it all along and that somehow everything we animated and mentioned DOES relate even though it DOESN'T..."
However a counter-argument to my point; I know that Guardians of Order in Canada brought out an Ultimate Fan Guide for the series that's supposed to be really really good...it's supposed to be an RPG supplement as well (to play in the world of Lain using BESM rules) but everyone that praised the book for being a guide also pointed out it was useless as a supplement...how Lain is setup, it's really a poor choice for a roleplaying campaign...
Hmm...I liked the animation style and designs...I just hated the story (if you could call it that) and the disjointed technique of stringing together 2 to 5 minute clips that could be chronologically out of order and unrelated to each other...
I'd LIKE to speculate on themes, mythos, and concepts in the series...but I WON'T because I'm pretty sure the writer / director didn't think it through themselves...I think they just threw a bunch of ideas together, ran with some, dropped the others, and there's most likely several holes in any plot we could try to argue for or against.
Sorry Resurie...if it makes you feel any better I hate Eva too even though it's a fan favorite.
