the name alone frightens me You mean Dr. Slump? That's Akira Toriyama's second-best known series, after Dragon Ball. Dr. Slump is a comedy, and is nothing like Dragon Ball Z. If you watched Dragon Ball on TV, and you saw "Arale" and her friends in some episodes, those are Dr. Slump characters making a cameo. |

TOKYOPOP edits manga too. Del Rey contemplated editing Negima (but didn't due to fan pressure).
Viz is gonna rate Dr. Slump T for teen, so I doubt much, if any editing, will be done.
As Shueisha owns half of Viz, it is NOT surprising at all that they got Dr. Slump.

I remember some years ago here they showed uncut (translated of course) episodes, they were so full of sex and such, there was even boobs in one.

Viz still sells works like Ranma and InuYasha with the boobies intact.
In fact, they cater to all age groups. They have several "rated M" stories.
Viz only edits anime if it's syndicated on TV (InuYasha) or if it's a kiddie show (Zoids).

I hate to say it since I know they'll censor the hell out of it, but I'm glad it's coming out in English.
Of course, if they leave it alone then they will gain much brownie points from me, so that when I'm a surgeon I'll let the top execs be my experiments.

For me this is good news since I'm an Akira Toriyama fan and I've read some Dr. Slump and I liked it. I just hope they don't screw with the names.

They won't screw with any names unless another company tells them to (e.g. what happened with Case Closed) - But I doubt that will happen as the Dr. Slump anime has not been licensed yet. For me this is good news since I'm an Akira Toriyama fan and I've read some Dr. Slump and I liked it. I just hope they don't screw with the names. |

Oh! I remember seeing this manga years ago in french back in the mid-90s when Sailor Moon and DragonBall were the top-selling mangas in french and there was only 1 well-known Editing/Publishing company (Glénat) before in late-1999 all these other companies started taking in manga translation rights and such.
Never read it though as I was more focused on looking for the Sailor Moon mangas and the DragonBall mangas. So sue me, those were like the two most popular manga... XDD
("DragonBall" encompased the entire series like in the original priniting version. In other words there was no DB or DBZ, just 42 DragonBall volumes. Ditto for Sailor Moon. No R, Super or Supers or Stars, just 18 volumes of Sailor Moon.)
