Normally, I don't like recap episodes/specials because I find them to be so boring. After all, all they do most of the time is just show clips, and summarize what's been happening so far, so why would I want to watch everything I've already seen before in a condensed 30 minute episode? But every once and a while, there will be a recap episode that'll catch my attention, and make me actually smile while watching it. So, which recap specials/episodes are your favorite and least favorite, and why?
My personal favorite would have to be "Make-up! Sailor Senshi!". It was a short 17 minute-long mini-movie that was released in Japanese theaters together with "Sailor Moon R: The Movie." It served as an introduction to Sailor Moon for moviegoers who went to go see the movie, but had never seen Sailor Moon before. The special began with Usagi and Chibi-usa eating lunch at some food court type of place, when they overhear these two girls debating with each other about which Sailor Senshi is the best.
Whenever one of the girls started talking about one of the Senshi, Usagi kept thinking they were going to talk about her next, but they always ended up talking about one of the other girls. They mostly talked about the Sailor Senshi's orgins, their personalities and their powers, but they also summarized the story of the first season. This recap special had action, adventure, romance, and comedy all mixed into one nicely put together package, making this my favorite recap special to date.
My least favorite recap episode/special would have to be any of the recap episodes from Gundam SEED. I can only take so much political discussion at once without getting bored, and Gundam SEED tends to have too much politics in the series already, but the recap episodes have so much of the political chit-chat that it's too much for me to handle. I nearly fell asleep when I watched the recap episodes, and what makes them even more painful to watch is that they had about five freaking recap episodes in a row at one point.
All they did was cover everything that's been happening from the start of the series, and they didn't have anything new or interesting happening in the episodes to make them worth-watching. These are the kinds of recap episodes I hate, and they're at their worse in Gundam SEED. So anyway, which recap episodes/specials are your favorite and least favorite, and why?
