This is the thread where you post any dub changes to any anime that really mess up the character in question. Set them up something like this below. Here is Amelda from Yuugiouu: Amelda(Dub-Alister). In the Japanese Amelda lived in a wartorn battlezone and his entire family were dead except his lil' bro' Miruko. Until he (Miruko) was blown up whilst climbing into a tank for protection. In the dub he was captured. Hmm, the army really must suck if they send an army to capture a small kid, right? Miruko being indirectly killed by Gozaburo Kaiba is more of a reason for Amelda to hate Kaiba so damn much.
I'll do some more lengthy comparisons if anybody actually replies to this topic. Did I mention the first to reply to this thread gets a free 'Release Uncut Yuugiouu and Shaman king DVDs in England' badge!
Side note: The episodes Amelda features in are most likely the most edited dub ever. Check them out if you don't believe me.

And that's why YGO should have stayed on cable.
See, it makes sense on WHY it was edited (as YGO is on Kids WB), but the show shouldn't have been on Kids WB in the first place.

Fine, take your 'Release uncut yuugiouu and shaman king DVDs in England' badge. And, as promised, i'll do one for Varon: Spoilers (possibly)
Varon (Dub=Valon). In the Japanese version Varon lived in a church orphanage run by Nuns. One day some thugs burnt down the Church and Varon tracked them down and flayed them all to within an inch of their lives. The police and Dartz became involved with the beating and Varon got a reutation as a thug himself. He was sent to a detention centre. Later when Dartz confesses to have messed up the lives of the three swordsmen of Doma he confesses to have been the one who burnt down the Church. In the dub it goes straight to the detention centre and when Dartz is confessing to messing up the lives of the swordsmen he says he 'framed Valon'. Really. Yet another messed up past. And Uncut YGO and SK in England badges for Everyone!

Miito-kun/Meat, off of "Kinnikuman (Nisei)", or "Ultimate Muscle". His past was seriously screwed up, as was his voice, and then what happened to his father.
Miito-kun's story:
When Mantaro/Kid Muscle was fighting Bone Cold, Bone Cold had held Grand Master Mitch hostage, then told Miito that his father had abandoned him, and sold him off to the King for money.
It was then that Mitch broke free, and attacked Bone Cold, to be stabbed, an evil thing to do to an old man. Mitch revealed that he, in fact, was Miito's father, and that he never wanted to give his little boy up, but was persuaded to, because the fate of Earth depended on it. If Miito was not able to train Kinniku Suguru, with his smarts and fighting know-how, then Earth was doomed, at the might of Demon Manufacturing Plant (DMP).
Mitch then died, reunited with his son, for one last time.
Meat's "story":
Basically, the idea was there, but it was so messed up that emotion was gone.
Bone Cold told Meat that his parents sold him for a speedboat, at which Mitch protests "It was an SUV!", then attacks Bone Cold. The stabbing is cut out, and Mitch just falls to the ground.
Meat is then told the real story, which is pretty much the same, except Mayumi (King at the time), says "I'll even throw in an SUV!"
Then Mitch "has to go to hospital, to get a hip replacement".
Basically, Miito-kun's dad died, not had to have a hip replacement. Why would Miito be so sad if his dad would live?!

4Kids obviously tried to make the scene more light-hearted.
Oh, and I believe "Miito" is "Meat" in katakana.

You think Miitos messed up, lets look at...
Raphael. In the japanese Raphael was a rich boy on a cruise ship. When he and his brother and sister were on top deck the ship started shaking and sunk (Not quite that fast though). Raphael escaped while his brother and sister fell to their deaths and his parents were so dead you don't even see them die. Raphael lived on a desert island, escaped etc etc... But in the English dub His whole family escaped to a life boat and survived (Quite how they survived in a puny life boat in those waves is beyond me).
This makes Raphael's motivation quite different. In the dub he thinks his family abandoned him and hates them. In the japanese his guardian monsters remind him of his family because they were a present from them. This explains why he fears the card graveyard so much and won't let his monsters die. SPOILER
In the UK the episode has been aired in dub form so if you want to know it cut out the part where he digs up the bones of his family. They do say it was Dartz who caused the underwater volcano to sink the ship though. Wear your badges with pride (Please!)

"Miito" is what he's called in the Japanese, as opposed to "Niku", for "Meat", so I use "Miito" for Japanese and "Meat" for English.

Is his first name "Alexander" in the Japanese versions? If so, "Miito" is a pronunciation (Yes, Japanese people pronounce English loanwords differently than Anglophones do)
