Mysteriously, Disney has released 3 more Studio Ghibli animations this week...and the best of the three isn't from Miyazaki!
The Cat Returns has become my favorite animation. It's kind of an Alice in Wonderland meets modern day Japan.
Without giving anything away, you follow Haru, a senior high school student who gets pulled into the Cat Kingdom.
It's heart-warming, it's got good comedic timing on the jokes (that are handled superbly by the english speaking cast), and it's got that flair of magic rules that I love.
And whether you're a guy or a girl, you'll fall in love with the Baron. I hope to be at least half as refined and dashing as him when I get older! I have a cat statue as a role-model now! ^_^
Tim Curry and Cary Elwes are among the voice cast for the dub...good stuff!

Does Cary Elwes use his english accent? I loved him in the Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
My wife loves just about every movie Tim Curry has been associated with. Except the Rocky Horro Picture Show. the music was okay, but she found Tim quite difficult to look at!! XD
Those two doing anime work? Wow!! I must look into this!!

Yes he does! :))))) I took the cardboard box cover that came with the DVD and cut out the picture of the Baron and now it's taped to my monitor. ^_^ I've turned into one of those fan girls.... *sigh*

I saw the movie a couple of years back at an anime con. I LOVED it. Heh, I even saw the begining of the movie un-subtitled because the people running the equipment didn't realise that the Japanese dvd had english subs ^^;. I still got what was going on of course though.
Aaaaah, such a wonderful cute and magical movie. I would really recomend it to anyone.
AND... it sounds like it has an interesting english cast. Hmmm... I should really get to seeing it again.

I havn't seen it out anywhere around here but it looks extremely interesting. It probably won't come out in the UK for a while but I know I'm definitly going to see it when it does. I must admit, I've already fallen for the Baron after just reaing the synopsis on the internet.

I've seen that movie. Well... I HAVE it. It was pretty good the first time I saw it. Atleast it had a good ending. Some movies seem like they end in the middle of the movie and others seem like they draw out the ending with boring speeches and "lessons in life" because the creators didn't have enough imagination to create a good ending. But this one was good ;D. I liked it.

I just watched The Cat Returns, but sadly I have to say I was disappointed by it. I thought the movie was lacking in character development and Haru kind of got on my nerves. I mean, doesn't she act just a little bit too calm for someone who's about to turn into a cat? I didn't really care for her seiyuu, either (I only watched the Japanese version). I also thought the plot was a little too simplistic for my tastes and everything was a little too easy for Haru and the Baron to get out of. I really didn't understand what the point of the movie was either, if there even was one. The only thing I liked about this movie was the animation, which was like the main thing that kept me watching throughout the entire time, but that's just my opinion. Ah well.
