I really don't think there's a Tenchi thread..=_= If there is sorry!
I've been a Tenchi fan since i was like in the 4th grade, which was when they first started airing it on Toonami. Hehe, i kinda owe alot to Tenchi. For one, i might not know what uncut anime was if it wasn't for something that happened with Tenchi a few years back.
So, who else likes it? I've seen all three series and some Pretty Sammy. The original OVA is my favorite. Then Universe, i didn't like Tokyo all that much..i mean it was alright, but a little too different. And they were all kinda drawn differently. And i hated Sakuya >_<
My favorite character is Ryoko. I've always really loved her for some reason. I think she belongs with Tenchi, and i heard in the new series thats coming in July he finally picks his girl, so i'm hoping its her.
I also love Washu, Sasami, and Ryo-Ohki. Especially Washu! XD She's so hilarious and cute. And i love her english voice too, i think it suited her very well.
There's another Tenchi series, GXP or something. I haven't seen it though..i don't really want to, i mean the main character isn't even Tenchi! @_@;;
^_^ I've been thinking about Tenchi alot lately, i miss it. I can't wait till July! *clings to a Ryo-Ohki plushie*

Man, I wish chaos wasn't dead and I could just copy and paste the FAQ I made as Council Director for OAA...
Anyway, to start, I'll make a list of each series, and which universe it goes in. The universes are as follows: OAV, TV1, Tokyo, and Other. The term "gaiden" means "side story," and refers to something that is part of a particular universe, but is not canon.
Japanese Title / US Title (universe)- # episodes, episode type; notes
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki / Tenchi Muyo! (OAV)- 6 episodes, OAV Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki: Night Before the Carnival / Tenchi Muyo! (OAV)- 1 episode, OAV Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki 2 / Tenchi Muyo! (OAV)- 6 episodes, OAV Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki 3 / (unknown) (OAV)- 6 episodes, OAV; not yet available in the US Tenchi Muyo! GXP (OAV)- 26 episodes, TV
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki / No Need for Tenchi (OAV Gaiden)- unknown number of volumes, manga; picks up at end of 1st OAV Shin Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki / All New No Need for Tenchi (OAV Gaiden)- unknown number of volumes, manga; picks up at end of 1st manga
Tenchi Muyo! / Tenchi Universe (TV1)- 26 episodes, TV Tenchi Muyo! In Love (TV1)- movie (#1) Tenchi Muyo! In Love 2 / Tenchi Forever (TV1)- movie (#2)
Tenchi Muyo! Manatsu no Eve / Daughter of Darkness (OAV / Other)- movie (#2); it is unclear at this point in time if this movie is OAV or Other
Shin Tenchi Muyo! / Tenchi in Tokyo (Tokyo)- 26 episodes, TV
Pretty Sammy (Other) Magical Project S (Other)- ((of the two of these, one is a TV series, the other is an OAV. I don't know which is which))
As a sidenote, the Tokyo universe may be the same universe that El Hazard takes place in, as Fujisawa-sensei is Tenchi's teacher in one episode.
A classmate of Sasami's in Pretty Sammy refers to her uncle, and an image of Katsuhito Jinnai is shown, implying that it's the same universe. However, as Pretty Sammy/Magical Project S is parody of the Maho Shoujo genre and admittedly a joke, it really can't be considered the same universe as El Hazard.

I have no idea about El Hazard...Just know its a anime..
About Pretty Sammy:
The OAV is 3 episodes(i think) it's dubbed into English on the Mihoshi special dvd. Its quite fun ^_^
Magical Project S is the series, as far as I know it hasn't been dubbed. I did see 2 dvds at Suncoast a while back with a bunch of eppies each, and they were subbed. I have a tape with three episodes on it and its subbed, i got it a few years ago.

The second movie is based on the Japanese Tenchi novels. As a sidenote, the Tokyo universe may be the same universe that El Hazard takes place in, as Fujisawa-sensei is Tenchi's teacher in one episode. Well, there are at least two different El-hazard series sooo.... I think AIC (that's the name of the company right?) just likes to make cameos *laughs*. As a side note about El-Hazard-- The first OAV series for the show is BRILLIANT. It has a perfect ending. The t.v series kind of sucks. And the second oav is.... meh. Never seen the third oav, but I hear is is of similar "Meh-ness" (not a word.) I've seen the first OAV of Tenchi on video tape back in the day. One episode for one tape. Those were hard times.... I saw the rest of the series on Toonami. Yeah, I know it was cut. But back then it was the cheapest route to go! That and the "tea=sake" thing was so intentionally obvious and oh so funny . Tenchi in Tokyo is my least favorite for one simple reason. The personality changes. ALL of the girls became whiny, simpering, clingy, little brats. Sakuya being the possesive brat queen. And Tenchi himself was no better. Grrrrrr.... Truly, Tokyo's cast was quite the lot of unlikable people. Anyhoo, the Tenchi series was pretty much my first "harem anime" that I ever watched. I liked the show back then. But nowadays, I don't have much patience for the genre.

I love Tenchi Muyo! and it's one of the few Japanese animated series I showed my sister that she actually liked (normally, she doesn't like Japanese animation, so now we finally have a series that we both like). I saw all of Tenchi Muyo! back when it was aired on Toonami and I also saw the Japanese version of the OVAs, the uncut dub of the first 12 episodes of the TV series, the uncut dubs of the movies, and the Mihoshi Special and all of Pretty Sammy. I also saw the first couple of episodes of GXP, but they were crappy fansubs I had downloaded a long time ago, so I don't remember much about the show. Oh yeah, and I read one random single issue of the Tenchi Muyo! manga. I wish Viz would re-release it unflipped, so I can read the rest. Walden's doesn't have any Tenchi Muyo! manga at all. Anyway, my fav Tenchi Muyo! series would have to be the OVAs. I thought the characters, storyline, comedy, and animation were at their best then. There wasn't anything at all that I hated about it, expect for the fact that it took them so freaking long to finish the storyline. >< Sadly though, I still haven't seen any of the new episodes. Is there any possibility that the new OVA series could air on CN? They aired the old OVAs after all, so I don't see why they couldn't air the new episodes. My least fav series would probably be Shin Tenchi Muyo!. I thought that series had way too many filler-in episodes and I didn't like how they changed the way the characters met so drasctically. I mean, Washu may have been a mad scientist, but she would never had teamed up with Ryoko to be a real criminal, and they made Ryo-ohkyi Sasami's pet instead of Ryoko's! While that was pretty cute in Pretty Sammy, that series was a spin-off, so they could get away with it, but this is Tenchi Muyo!, and Ryo-ohkyi is supposed to be Ryoko's pet, not Sasami's! Hence the name "Ryo-ohkyi." And Tenchi does barely any of the fighting at all. Most of the action is left up to the girls, which I thought was disappointing because I wanted to see more of Sword Tenchi. I also hated the animation style, especially the character designs for Ayeaka, Washu, and Sasami, and while I don't neccessarily hate Sakuya (I actually think she and Tenchi would make a cute couple), I thought her true identity was way too obvious, so I don't really care for her as much as the other characters, but I don't actually hate her. My fav of the movies is the first one. I think it had the perfect pacing, the best animation, a nice balance of action, comedy, and romance, and plenty of plot twists to keep the audience interested. It seems like everybody likes this movie! I showed it to my best friend in high school and she liked it, even though she hates Tenchi Muyo!. I also showed it to my sister, and she liked it too (which got her hooked on Tenchi Muyo!), even though she normally hates Japanese animation. So, it's a good movie to use to introduce people to the series and Japanese animation in general. My least fav of the movies has to be Manatsu no Eve. That movie centered around comedy almost too much, the plot was very predictable, and the ending was kind of disappointing. I just didn't really care for that movie so much as the others. I also really enjoyed Pretty Sammy. The TV series was really funny, but it has a lot of filler-in episodes and the storyline was really dragging, but the OVAs made up for it by having a very well-done plot along with excellent animation, making both versions of Pretty Sammy worth checking out. The Mihoshi Special was also down-right hiliarious. I felt sorry for poor Kiyone the whole time. My fav character in Tenchi Muyo! has to be a tie between Tsunami and Washu. I liked Tsunami in the OVAs because she was so mysterious and she was also really funny in Pretty Sammy, but we don't get to see her enough in the Tenchiverse, which is why she's tied with Washu as my fav character because if we did get to see more of her, Washu would be number two. Anyway, I like Washu because of how she's always trying to get Tenchi to do one of her crazy expirements and yet tries to seduce him at the same time. I also like how she wants everyone to call her "Washu-chan!" and she can be just so hilliarious. My least fav character is probably Sakuya mainly because I just thought she was too obvious, I guess. Really, I don't have a least fav character, but I had to choose somebody. ^^;; As for the dub, Tenchi Muyo! is one of the few anime series who's dub that I actually like. I enjoyed all of the English VAs, my favs being Sasami's, Washu's, and Ryoko's. I don't see why so many people hate Ryoko's English VA. Most purist fans will complain it's because it makes her sound too manly, but Ryoko is kind of tomboyish, so I think it fits her perfectly. And I actually think she can sound pretty feminine at times, too. I actually don't have a least fav English VA for Tenchi Muyo!. I like them all, even Ayeaka's! Unfortunately, I thought the dub was kind of disappointing for the Pretty Sammy OVAs. The English VAs weren't as good as they usually were, and a lot of the times when they spoke, they sounded very bland. It was almost like they were only doing this job for the money and not because they actually wanted to. Misao had a terrible English VA in the first episode, but luckily she got a better one for episode two. The first VA made her sound like an old granny while the second VA made her sound far more adorable and fitted her age a lot better. And I didn't like the way the script was worded in the dub as much as in the original. It's kind of hard to explain without going into a more detail comparision, and my post is already long enough as it is. ^^;;

I don't know about a CN release of the third OVA, but at least it's coming out on DVD in June! I've been waiting for this conclusion for the series for about 8 years now(must...restrain...self...). I couldn't believe back in middle school when I saw it on tape the first time, that episode 13 was the "end" of the story. I was like, "so, where's the next one?"
friend of mine: "what next one?"
"NNOOOOOO!!!"
I love Tenchi OVA(not Universe or Tokyo). ;D

Oh for those of you wondering. They were able to get MOST of the english cast back for the third dvd. The only person they didn't get was Ryoko's VA.
Ryoko will now be played by Mona Marshall 0_o .
Now, while I love Mona Marshall as a voice actress... her playing RYOKO is just weird 0_o .

Who does Mona Marshall play? I wanna see if i know her voice already...I'm sad that Ryoko's VA isn't there, i loved her voice. At least the rest are there...
I watched the Mihoshi Special again today cause i felt like it. XD I think that explains why Kiyone isn't in the OVA X3
As for the movies, i've seen Tenchi Muyo! in Love...and i want and must see Manatsu no Eve(sp?) or Daughter of Darkness, whatever. Back when me and my cousin bought a tape of Tenchi it had a preview, ever since i've wanted to see it...but at Suncoast while its cheap it has "16 and up' on the front cover.. ._. I'm weird about things like that, cause my mom or grandma will get paranoid if they saw that.

After hearing her play Shaoran and Koushiro, I don't think I can imagine this Mona Marshall as Ryoko. o.O Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see how well her new voice is, and if it sucks so much that I can't stand it, at least we have the Japanese version available to watch. ^^

*cries silently* I knew this information, but it still depresses me. I loved the original's voice cast, especially ryoko's voice. I guess I'll have to stick to watching the Japanese version only this time(I was upset when they changed Katsuhito's voice after Tenchi Universe as well). Even if the rest of the cast is the same, having only one difference can make that one voice stand out even more, at least I get that feeling.

But i'm gonna watch the dub anyway, cause i'm lazy and don't like reading subs if possible XD;; I really hope she turns out ok. Ryoko's voice was my second favorite next to Washu's.

No reading subtitles neccesary on my part(don't have a japanese major for nothing, you know?) ;D
My favorite characters are Sasami and Washu!!! I love Washu-chan, and actually prefer her japanese voice to her English one. With everyone else, it's about the same. Can't say much for Mihoshi's voices, as they are soooo similar in both versions, and I hate both of them!
