Well, it does have questionable title art at times, so if you're talking about charaters being stylisticly bound to one another in chains, in questionable poses/outfits, or the like....yes, your mark wouldn't be far off. Doesn't mean it's a yaoi manga, though.

I picked up the first volume [in English] a while ago. It's pretty bitchin, and the translations are really accurate too.
Now, the inside cover did say "Some art has been modified from the orginal Japanese edition." But I honestly couldn't find any changes, at least no really noticeable ones (i.e: something like middle fingers/Zatch's boxer's etc.)
The only real changes that I could think of would have to be panels with Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji writing from the original and the scenes where Light is writing in the notebook, and those are just more translations so to speak.
Perhaps Viz is getting even more specific when they mention their modifications?

I just finished reading volume 1. Chapter 3 was when Light started to scare me the most, when he said he would kill his family if they found out about the Death Note... Yeah, that scared me a little, but not the mass homicide he commits against those he feel are corrupting the world. 0o;;

I bought vol. 1 recently and just started reading it. >D It's awesome. Really..consuming. I started reading and didn't want to stop. It;s very interesting and..unique. Light is Raito, right? ....I don't like the name Light for a person. It bothers me. XD; Ryuk, which i'm guessing is Ryuku, frightens me at times.  The art in Death Note is very different and uber..detailed and stuff. Light/Raito too scares me. He's cool but like...scary. He kills people. D: He's kinda crazy. I wanna see L. He's supposed to be cool... Yeah, Death Note is awesome. :3 |

Actually, The names ARE correct in the English version. Its all a matter of romanization. That kinda suprised me when I picked up the second volume (in Japanese) because there was a page that had the summary of whats happened so far in the series as well as a head shot of each of the characters with their names written below them in English. Nevertheless, Light is kind of a queer (meaning weird!) name for a person. I've heard worse though...  |

All I can say after reading 20 pages is: I'm hooked.
This series is the next best thing from Bleach! (The manga of course) I'm hoping that in due time, when I have money, I'll get the english version, because it really is good.
