......Ok, any person who has been within my vicinity should know I'm fangirl-ing over Mar, or Marchen Awakens Romance. NOT MARS, the shoujo manga. Prepare for a long post. Note: I suck at explaining things. I'm sort of internally bleeding in my hand so don't expect the best thing in the world. -_-
Soo, just wondering if anyone knows about it so far? It's by the same person who did Flame of Recca ( <3 ) and it's pretty good. Recca was more not-really-in-the-cute-ish-sort-of-way while Mar is cute-and-bish-ness-in-all-the-same.
Ok, just to tell all of you, Nobiyuki Anzai's work all sound very casual. You know, something that's been done over and over. When I first read a summary on Flame of Recca, it all seemed so...cliche. So...normal, you know? But all of them just seem that way. To truly tell the special things about his work that sets them apart, you'd have to tell all the details, all the plot twists, all the little things that make his work great. So, even if I sound flat and boring, please, I ask of you, PLEASE don't judge it like that. I just don't want to tell all the good points, I point out the bad, wrong-impression giving ones.

MAR is pronounced Meh-ruu. *can't do that fancy Alt+code thing because her laptop keyboard sucks like that* Marchen is German for Fairytale pretty much.
We're introduced to Toramizu Ginta. Athletic ability: Zero. Eyesight in both eyes: 0.1 too many video games. Academic Record is below average. And he always sits in the front of assemblies due to his shortness. He's one who is always in his dreams, waiting for something that will never come. He's had a certain dream of the land of Marchen 102 times. Of course, no one believe him, even his own mother. However, there is Koyuki, a childhood friend of Ginta. She's always willing to listen to his dream and Ginta appreciates it so much.
And then, as all such anime goes, Ginta is transported to his dream world, by means of no discretion via Monban Pier(r)o, a powerful Dimension Arm.
When he arrives in Mar Heaven, he suddenly realizes that everything he sees is blurry but it was because his eyesight had gotten better. He could run with much more stamina and he's stronger too.
In the land of Mar Heaven people use Arms. They are usually accessories engraved with magic. When invoked, they can be used offensive, Weapon arms, defensive, Guardian Arms, to curse, Darkness Arms, and to heal, Holy Arms. There are also Dimension arms which can move through time and space, Nature Arms that borrow powers of nature, and many others that can't be really catagorized.
When Ginta arrives in the world of his dreams, he runs into Dorothy who is going to look for a rare Arm named Babbo. And thus the story truly begins, although they find Babbo long in the beginning, who is near a metal Kendama that likes to pretend he's a gentleman. Throughout his journey, he begins to see so many things. It's all a dream come true. However, he begins to feel how sad he must've made his mother and made up his mind to go back home because he really doesn't belong here. But before it could really turn into a 'I-want-to-go-home-and-blah' quest, Ginta finds out about how the 'happy' Mar Heaven isn't really all it is. From there, he learns about the Chess no Koma and eventually participates in the war (Much later)and learns the pains of humanity, and that sometimes, reason escapes logic in a twisted fashion.
..........Yea, I suck. But as things go, this is a really nice series. I'm hoping you remember what I told you before, that the good parts of his work isn't really explain-able. MAR has a nice unique set of character design and personality wise, they're the bunch you always see in anime yet with that little twist in them. The story itself is spiced well, not perfect, but it's a great one nonetheless. It's creative, I'll give you that and it's like something out of an RPG. It has humor, a little romance, great action, especially during the war, adventure, drama-in-a-sense, sarcasm, and those little plot changes that are worth more later on. The villains are all designed to their own personal tastes and their special way of fighting which is pretty fun to guess since none of them really have the same type of technique used.
Ooh, extra note on the action. Due to the variaty of Arms, the fights are very entertaining to watch. Who's heard of a bubble launcher that spouts exploding bubbles against their opponents? Darkness Arms are fun to watch for they curse their enemy in an expense upon the user. Guardian Arms are pretty XD Nature arms, like Jack (don't ask), provide interesting fights because of the fact that they utilize the elements. I basically mean Jack's way of fighting x3 I won't spoil.
All in all, I love this series. Ok, that's because I worship the ground Ginta, Alviss, and Nanashi walk on. But really, this series deserves credit for the amount of imagination used on it. It might not be the most stellar thing anyone's seen but it's enjoyable and lovable. I recommend it to anyone who likes adventure and action and RPGs. >_>; The latter might not like it that much...
>O NOW GO READ IT.
P.S since the manga is licenced, I won't post the place where I got my scanlations. SnoopyCool took them down anyway. My biggest worry now is that the anime will be licenced by assholes...TV TOKYO, DON'T GIVE IN!

Summary: I'm just saying that Mar is a great series with creativity spent on it : D I encourage you to please, at least give it a try despite what I've said here DIScouraging you. I know that a great many of you probably won't even care about this but for those who do, I ask you please give it a look and see whether you like it or not. If you do, at least read past the first few chapters... Moo, I should shut up before I tarnish Mar even more...
