...but i liked roy's voice. he looked old enough to have that deep a voice. To me, that voice was for an older gentleman (say, 30s-40s). Roy is only supposed to be in his mid-20s (I'd say he's about 27). I felt he needed a younger, more suave sounding voice. |

tonight's (or last saturday's) episode was funny.
i loved all the face expressions, especially al's when the bad guys were washed up.

I will admit, I actually like Hughes-san's voice, and Riza's is passable...
but I still cry every time I hear Roy-sama's voice, and they absolutely RUINED my favorite joke in episode 5...

huges made me laugh when he first came on screen. i loved how he was bothering roy. and now that you mention it, roy's voice is pretty deep.

It was right after Ed 'washed out' the goons with the water. When they look up and see Al, looking all menacing, originally you hear him say "Irrashai" (sp?), aka "Welcome" in this really menacing tone (which is hilarious, because it's a rather innocent sounding voice).
The dub's "welcome to the brig," however, sounded more like he was joking around, and didn't sound menacing at all... it also didn't fit the look on Al's face.
Maybe I'll make a sound clip of the original...

(And I THINK he dub Al said something like welcome to HELL.)

No, the dialogue was "Welcome to the Brig" (I've watched it twice now). It wasn't so much the dialogue that bugged me (although I didn't like the use of 'brig', since it is a military term), but it was how it was said.
That being said, there's been a lot of inappropriate dialogue in the past two episodes (4 and 5).
The 'brig' thing is part of it, but a lot of the dialogue in 5 made Ed and Al out to already being part of the military (yes, Bard did originally call Ed out as being used by the military, but Ed fervently denied it, which he didn't in the dub).
And then, in episode 4, the kid talking about "robots from the future." Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that a kid in a rural village in 1910 (in a very technologically unadvanced civilization) would not know what a robot was. Plus, it actually CONTRIDICTS later in the series, which implies that the world in which FMA exists would never have anything like robots.
Oh, and Ashil, you haven't seen the original, have you? Ed's random items that have his "antenna" show up A LOT... often with tongues sticking out.

last nights ep was great as always. the sceen with huge's wife was hillarious.

i want to see the original and i plan on getting the dvd's in january. after seeing it dubbed i like to see it in japanese. hehe yeah im a little backwards ^^;

I just got my boyfriend's CD with 5-8 on it, so over break I'm planning on getting caught up on my FMA-Uncensored site... much of the conversation (pre-baby) with Gracia was changed... I also don't like the fact that they were calling her "Mrs. Hughes." The dub seems to find calling adults by their first name offensive. At this point in the anime, Ed was originally calling Mustang by his first name, and Gracia was always refered to by her first name. Those are the only two characters I can think of who they call by their first names (and Mustang it doesn't last long), and I wish they hadn't changed it.
Also, and I know Lovely is concerned about this as well, episode 7 is one of the three 'long' episodes of the series. What this means is that instead of the regular episode layout (scene -> opening -> part A -> commercial -> part B -> closing -> preview), it has (and the other two) scene -> opening -> part A -> commercial -> part B -> extended part B w/ overlayed credits -> preview.
Now, normally this wouldn't be a problem, as they'd just use the ending scene w/ overlayed credits for the ending, except for the fact that dub ending is 40 seconds (I timed it) shorter than the original ending.
Here's what this means: The episode (in its entirety) is 40 seconds longer than the other episodes shown thus far. Here's the possible options I see being done:
1) The opening is cut (RSG runs for 1:27, plus Al's opening dialogue), which gives them enough time for the ending scene (minus credits), plus the regular ending (with credits), with 17 seconds left over.
2) The episode is cut short. I don't like this, because it takes away from the episode (I know Lovely agrees with me on this one).
3) The episode runs 40 seconds longer. It's less than a minute, but that's also 40 seconds less of commercials that they get to play, and that's less money. Plus, as the episode is aired twice, that's a total of 1:20 they're losing in money.
The preferable scenario would be scenario 3, but, given the state of this country, I can't see it happening. So I'd best like to see scenario 1. Lovely-sama (and anyone else who's seen this episode), what do you think?

AS cuts the opening for many shows. I think FMA is one of them.
To compensate, AS puts video clips of openings and closing scenes on their website.

And cool as it is, I personally perfer the first opening "Mellisa". BUT I think this was a choice by Sony to promote L'arc en Ciel. ANYHOO, I don't think option 3 is feasable. I'm sure AS loves us, but they still need to keep their advetisors happy ^^; . So, I think option 1 is the best way to go. Actually, it wouldn't be SO bad to skip the ending song, it's just... EXTRA NOTE: Heh, according to a Funimation rep on another board I frequent. FMA is doing really well with the female audience. In fact, it seems to be attracting female veiiwers ^_^ . |

Many of the FMA cosplayers I see are female... ironically, for my group, so far the confirmed cosplayers we have are actually gender-correct... this is the first time in a long time I've been able to say THAT...
