I want Viz to get the rights to Toei's Yu-Gi-Oh! anime (The anime airing on TV is TV Tokyo/NAS's Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, licensed by 4Kids)
A few points about it: * Release on DVD * If possible, air on Cartoon Network's Toonami * If it gets a TV release, have edited and unedited DVD releases * try to keep names as seen in the manga (E.G. Yugi Mutou, Anzu Mazaki) * try to get same voice actor cast as the 4Kids YGO has * Release 30 min YGO movie on DVD (not the same as the one in theatres) * Use English card names, if applicable

I really don't think the first series could air on television in America. Even if they put it on Adult Swim (which in my opinion is where it'd end up), there would be idiot parents who let their kids stay up and watch this. Said kids would be scared by so-just-that-he's-borderline-evil!Yami no Yuugi and psychotic Death-T era Kaiba brothers. Said parents would sue, because that's how America works these days: everyone blames everyone else for any and every thing. Now, I wouldn't mind a DVD release with an accurate dub, but it's not likely that they could get the same voice cast unless $Kids was involved. (Which is a shame, as Eric Stuart is my favorite voice of Seto Kaiba.)
Plus, there's already one Yuugioh anime out there. I doubt $Kids would welcome the arrival of another.

Like how Rurouni Kenshin is handled, the distributor could have the edited version only on TV (e.g. Toonami style edits, or Adult Swim style if needed) - This version would NOT air on network TV for good versions.

Yes, that's true. What I'm afraid of is what might happen if they did do that: Miho's bad enough without being turned into a Mary Sue. We don't need little ten-year-old dubbies telling us that "Noah must be related cuz Kiaba has gr33n hair on Cartonn Network!!1 Lolololol!!11!!!" And I'm afraid of what they'd do to Monster World...I'm pretty sure they kept the hand-stabbing bit in the anime version. Not entirely, but pretty sure. I do understand that they couldn't air it unedited on network TV...I'm not a complete idiot!!!

Draft Letter:
Dear FUNimation,
Being a fan of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, I would like to see you bring Toei’s version of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime over to North America. The show currently airing on TV (known in Japan as Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters), which is licensed by 4Kids, was made by TV Tokyo and NAS. The show I am talking about came before that and was made by Toei. The show I am talking about (Yu-Gi-Oh! A Shadow Game) lasts for 27 episodes as it didn’t do that well in Japan. But I think it will do well in North America since people like me are interested in the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. I have several points for how to bring over Toei’s 27-episode series. • Release it on DVD • Try to get it on Cartoon Network’s Toonami, and if it gets on Toonami, release an edited and uncut version of the DVD’s. • Try to keep the names consistent with the VIZ manga (e.g. Yugi Mutou instead of Yugi Moto, Katsuya Jonouchi instead of Joey Wheeler) If names cannot be kept consistent with the manga, I have a naming chart for some characters. • If needed, edit card backs so they match Konami’s card backs. • Try to get the same voice actors for the characters as the 4Kids TV show has. • Make it clear that this show has no continuity with the 4Kids TV show. I hope to watch Toei’s series on TV sometime. Thank you for listening to me, Sincerely, name
Is there anything else I should do?

I'd personally prefer it if it wasn't dubbed at all, and that Funimation would release it sub-only on DVD. I know that's very unlikely to happen, but Yugioh has suffered enough in the U.S., and having read the manga and loved it, I don't want to see anymore of it butchered to death by anyone.

In the dub haven't they actually shown footage from this season. The bully and Yugi protecting Tristan and Joey?
The scene with Tea working at that diner was from that season too right?
Isn't there a character that was cut from the anime but was in the manga? I think her name was Miho.

The manga has one story, the Toei anime has a slight variation of THAT story, and the Duel Monsters anime has a much different version (e.g. instead of someone holding up the restaurant, Anzu/Tea is lured into a place where a rapist (or in the dub, a mugger) is waiting for her. Yugi stops him.

I seriously would love for 4Kids to sub the first series and bring it to DVD, but that's pretty unrealistic.

4Kids is prolly not going to dub Toei's series, as it lasts for only 27 episodes. FUNimation might be able to, though.
