It's a new One Piece thread! Continuing the conversation from here. Anyhoo, one of the last posts on that thread included some clips, so I'll just quote it here. I think the reason for the Marines/Navy thing is because Marines is a strictly American thing, whereas Navy can be any number of countries. I never did get to see today's episode. They did run a NASCAR thing instead. But just hearing about the suction cups is enough. I made a couple of clips from the original so you can see Luffy get shot full of spikes and then pull them out. ;D I hate to sound like a broken record, but yeah, it's stupid Angelfire, you have to either save the file to your compy by right-clicking or copy and paste the URL into your browser to see them. www.angelfire.com/anime5/kikaider/luffyvkrieg.wmvwww.angelfire.com/anime5/kikaider/spikes.wmvBTW, the only time slot on Cartoon Network that wouldn't have significant editing is Adult swim. And even Adult Swim doesn't show stuff completely uncut, believe it or not. I can cite examples. Editing blood is really at the bottom of my list in complaints about 4kids dubs. I understand the reason behind it. The crimes of bad acting, cheesy dialogue, crappy background music, and plot wankering are far worse. One Piece is a violent little show huh? *grin* It really is more suited to a TEEN audience. But... The series is weird. It goes back and forth from REALLY mature arcs, to silly "safe for all ages" arcs. It TRUELY was a bad idea to put this show on US broadcast t.v. America just doesn't have a place for this kind of show. Ah well~ Anyhoo, discuss away.

There is a way to broadcast One Piece:
Have 4Kids give Cartoon Network the uncut OP dub, and then have CN themselves edit it a little bit for airing on CN.
Yes, OP does not belong on terrestrial saturday morning TV.

Woo, 4 threads. ;D CN is only a channel. They aren't a dubbing studio. CN shows whatever they get from different companies, whether it be Funimation, Bandai, 4Kids, or whatever. What everyone wishes is that Funimation had won the license intead of 4Kids. Interestingly enough, just recently Toei signed a deal with Geneon that would give Geneon full access to all Toei animation. And also, Geneon, Funimation and AVD merged. So if the timing was better, we'd be seeing a better release of One Piece right now. But oh well. There's still hope in the future.

OK, I did something I should have done a long time ago. I put all the clips I've made from the beginning up on a webpage. So now you don't have to worry about not clicking the link and stuff. www.angelfire.com/anime5/kikaider/op.html

America just doesn't have a place for this kind of show. Ah well~ Anyhoo, discuss away. This series used to be my least favorite in shonen jump, but it's started to grow on me since I've seen the show (The uncut, japanese clips that is...) To be perfectly honest though, When the show started to air on the F*** Box, I did not think it sucked truly as bad as I was expecting. Just a margin below udder crap. For the first arcs of the show at least... At least 4kids is following the manga (somewhat) faithfully . And stupid name changes have been reduced to adding or changing a letter. I'm not really bugged by the whole Zoro/Zolo thing, in fact I think 'Zolo' rolls of the tounge a little bit better. Of course, this is what I thought BEFORE the episodes got to the 'Baratie' arc ( or whatever it's called, thats how I know it) Then I heard Sanji's voice...I'll leave it at that. I don't think it was a bad idea to bring the series stateside, I just think (And I am definetly not alone on this one) that a much, much, much better job could have been done. *coughSanjiVAcough* *coughusetheoriginalmusiccough* *cough4kidssucksatanimecough* Besides, If an anime like "Super Milk Chan" can come stateside, then ANYTHING is possible.

The way One Piece is structured doesn't lend itself too well for the average short-attention spanned audience. The series is so linear - you HAVE to start at the beginning and you can't skip episodes or you might really miss something. The main plot moves rather slowly. I mean, look how long it took just to introduce Sanji. And they don't get to the Grand Line until episode 61. All of us who are reading the manga currently now at chapter 361 are awaiting the 8th crew member. XD It's the type of story that either is going to hook you in entirely or not at all.
One other thing you have to consider about a dub, is that the series is so long, that whoever is cast for the main characters has a loooong committment. It's really annoying when all of a sudden a voice actor for a main character changes halfway through a series, like in Ranma 1/2.

And those reading the English manga are still at the Baratie arc.
I heard that Media Blasters did something like that for Rurouni Kenshin - simply make a TV show version out of an uncut dub.

I have bought all the English manga volumes, even though I read scanlations and Japanese raws with translations. I'm just not patient enough to wait for a new volume to come out every few months or so, I can't stand to be so behind. And to my great delight, someone else has started to sub the most recent anime episodes so I won't have to wait another year for you-know-who to catch up. ;D

OR if they do acknowledge her death they'll definitely edit her grave I love that arc, and I just know 4shits are gonna ruin it. T_T

The Baratie arc, especially the Zoro and Hawkeye fight, is what changed my mind about the series. Before that point I was... "well it's cute." and after that I was "DEAR GOD, I LOVE THIS SHOW 0_0 ." Like many others, the Arlong arc REALLY made me a fan. It's a very powerful arc. Both in the visual and mental department. I have a question btw, has the Dub reached the Arlong arc yet? cos they're bound to cut out most of the meaningful stuff like ** Nami stabbing her own arm,... *** THAT, in my opinion, is one of the most powerful scenes in a show I have EVER seen. After I saw that moment, I my initial reaction was "yeah... 4kids didn't WATCH this show."

So true, that was one of the most moving and heartfelt scenes that they had shown on the series, particularly the end of the scene when Luffy puts his hat on Nami's head and promises to defeat Arlong (or something along those lines, my German is very limited ).

Oh yeah, that's such a great episode. I'm sure it will be killed by 4Shame. >_< Much awesomeness. Although there are some scenes further off in the future that will rival it. Anyone else reading the manga up the the Water 7 arc? Attack of the killer angst! Hehe, I should start calling them they who shall not be named. XD

I myself am only up to the end of the Arabasta arc, watching Kaizoku fansubs and all, but I definitely like both that one and the Arlong arc(until the end of the Arabasta arc, Arlong's was my favorite). I really think that if 4Kids does it, it'll only be like, 5 episodes in it. grrr, must wait patiently for more kaizoku fansubs...

No, you must not say the name of they who shall not be named here! ;D I don't think they care, but I think the admins here prefer that you don't link or name the fansub groups.
