Old School Sonic the Hedgehog

Hi there,

How many people remember the old Sonic cartoons? Y'know like AoStH (the wierd one), Sonic SatAM (or as I would call it Sonic Freedom Fighters), or Sonic Underground (the one with music videos)? Which one is your favorite?

I'll start by saying that Sonic Freedom Fighters is my favorite one, it had the darkest atmosphere out of all the Sonic series (too bad Shadow didn't exist at the time, he would have fit in perfectly).

I liked them all for different reasons.

Adventures was lighthearted fun, and really, Robotnik in it rocked. I mean, he was so out there. And Scratch and Grounder were probably the best lackeys of all time.

It taught kids lessons, and it was a cool show which captured Sonic's spirit in a way past cool way.

I don't remember SATAM very much, it kinda scared me at the time (I was like 6) because of the roboticization and whatnot. Big thing for me at the time. I grew out of it though. It spawned a ver good comic, which has now kinda really started to suck.

Sonic Underground, erm, well, they tried to make it somewhere in between the other two I believe. It was more light hearted, with Dingo and, whatever the other one was. But, I don't think the Mythos was as well established, it was wishywashy at parts. The Roboticization aspect was really put to good use here, with the whole class system and all. Robotniks whole grip on the area was very literary, it was interesting. And besides, it had Knuckles. And Athair, a comic character, so, that gave it points with me. No tails at all though.... Meh, it was different..... I didn't really like it all that much, but the more I think about it, it was a really well put together series. Makes me wish I saw more of SatAM, although I did have a couple tapes.... >_>

Does the old Sonic OVA (movie) count too? I know it was Japanese, but it's still old. THAT my friends, is the best animated work of Sonic the Hedgehog, EVER. It blows me away, it's awesome. Everything about it... the animation.... the story, the voices (which are bad at first, but they fit) the animation is OK for the time too. It's cool indeed. XD

Yeah, that was a great show for its time. The last time I remember seeing an episode of that was sometime on the Disney channel.

Sure as hell portrayed Sonic better than this 4Krap version of 'Sonic ECKs!!'

I don't remember the names of all cartoons (Satam, etc) but I do know I watched all of it that was on. I loved Sonic sooo much! Sadly, I don't remember a single episode, other than the one where Sonic and Tails meet.

Can one buy the cartoons on video?

Ah! I remember this show! (not sure which version, though...) Chilly dogs, Robotnic, Tails/Miles.
Does anybody else remember that episode where some girl hegehog(?) sings a song to/ about Sonic? The hedgehog is reddish-pink, I think she had a southern accent, (this is the dub, obviously) and the song was like:
'Sonic the Hedgehog, you can't catch what you can't see...'
that's the only line of the song that I remember, but for some reason it stuck in my brain all these years.
I liked Tails. Remember how Sonic used to tap his foot and go 'I'm waaaaaaaaaiting...' that was him, right?
Some videos do exhist, because you can rent them at a video store near that I go to.
If it weren't for the new Sonic show, I would get shirts representing the old show (as seen at Hot Topic), and I would feel all retro. Now I'd just feel like I was supporting Sonic X, which isn't a bad show, but I rarely watch it, where as the old Sonic... *gets lost in memories of The Good Old Days...*

That, my friend, would be Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. When I was a kid, I always got a kick out of the fact that the bad guys (mainly Scratch and Grounder) would fall for the dumbest tricks in the book... like the episode where Sonic made the robots run right into a sandcastle that had an anchor in it. And it was obvious that Sonic was faking that he was tired and weak!

I was hoping that Sonic X would have been more like Sonic Freedom Fighters... but I guess I got my hopes up too high huh?
What really sucked was the fact that Sonic Freedom Fighters was cut off before it could properly end.

i use to watch the one with just sonic and tail religiously! then when the one on ABC saturday morning came out, i watched that. i'd have to say that the ABC sonic one was the best. it had everyone, including Lupe <3 if it had only had hershey....
