I noticed something, is it just me or does Anzu's family not exist? I mean, we never see her family on the show, do we? They may show them on the book (I don't read the manga much) but I'm pretty sure that they never show up on the show. Am I right? it seems odd...

It's pretty cliche for characters not to have their parents appear. And since this IS the anime we're talking about, they probably thought it wasn't worth the effort to put them on for a friendly 30 seconds.

Well yeah, but I mean everyone else semms to have SOME sort of family. Yugi has his grandpa, (and in the origanal, his mom) Jonochi has a whole family, (divorced, but still) and in the manga, Honda has a baby brother he has to "babysit" so he must have a family. But Anzu doesn't seem to have ANY family. Maybe she's an orphan... or she has them hostige. Yeah, I can see it now... Anzu: You just have ta stay in this closet for a few years while I go with Yugi, not knowing what will happen. I have a month's worth of supplies for you in here, so make them last. If you try to get out you will get 50,00 volts to the brain, any questions? Parents: *incoheritent muffled words* Anzu: Oh, well I take the bag off when I know you can be trusted. Parents: Yeah, I always saw Anzu as slightly evil... I don't know why, I just do.

Actually, Johji is Honda's nephew, but that still means he has a brother or sister.
Anyways, like Shaman King Yoh Asakura said, most people in anime don't have their family shown, mostly because they're not vital points in the story, or because they can't fit into the current storyline.
I mean, look at Ryu. He has no family to call his own, except his gang. He has no parents, no siblings, just his gang friends. Why? Because they show no importance.

In the first series Yu-Gi-Oh! anime Honda's mom yells at him.
Anzu has a family, but her parents are never seen. She lives in a house (as in the manga), and I doubt she would be living alone.

It might just be that 4Kids censored them off...
It happened in Yugi's case, I went on a few websites (as well as looking at Shonen Jump) and found that his mother made a couple of appearances in the anime and the manga... but for some unknown reasons our favorite (NOT) dubbing company scratched her out of existence.

Yeah, I knew about that, and also knew that was a possibility (I have never seen the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh) but I figured that they should at LEAST have her say something about them to acnolege there existence, BUT ONCE AGAIN, 4KIDS HAS LEFT ME WITH ANOTHER UNANSWERED QUESTION! Grr, as 4Kids grew, they discovered how to use the siccors on the scripts...

If it helps, in the manga Honda has a dog. ;D He walks it ouside the game shop where Yuugi plays Dungeon Dice Monsters. Or, as it's called in the manga, Dungeons, Dragons and Dice.

Maybe Anzu is not an important/popular enough character to warrant time being spent on her family relation in any way, shape, or form. Maybe that's why she's always doing those friendship speeches... If Yugi's mom was in the anime, I find it weird that they'd cut it out because since she's not there, it's kinda assumed that something probably happened to his parents and that's why he's living with his grandpa now. Although, on the other hand, I kinda see why they wouldn't want Yugi's mother just randomly showing up occasionally, because in my mind, that'd raise more questions about why she's not there more often or why he's not living with her unless these concerns are actually addressed in her brief appearances. I mean, I've only read the first year and a half of the the manga in Shonen Jump and I only remember her one time, trying to get Yugi to come to breakfast/go to school and he was playing a memory game with his socks. You know, it makes me wonder if the target demographic of Yugioh even notices these things. Here we are, discussing personal background information about the characters and well... maybe it's like we're paying too much attention to it or something.

Yeah, I'm kinda have a nitpicky way of noticing those things. Actually, I think Yugi's mom DOES show up on the Japanese shows, but 4Kids cut her out. I mean, WHY? WHY DOES 4KIDS HATE PARENTS SO MUCH!?! On a posative note, now I'm a SHAMAN ;D (in training mind you, but still). Edit: Well, MetaKnight noticed the mom thing before me, so I really shouldn't take credit for that.

You know, last week, I caught some random episode of Duel Masters and while the main character was dueling his friends/group on the sidelines were randomly talking and it kinda went something like this; "Go -main character-! You can beat him!" "If you lose, we won't be able to follow you around anymore." "Yeah, we'd have to go home." "Hey... we haven't seen our parents for what seems like forever." "Hey, you're right." "If he wins, we can continue following him and we still won't see them." "Oh well, we should support our friend. You can win!"
And it just cracked me up. I love that stupid humor they put in Duel Masters. But obviously, not enough to actually watch the series regularly, because then I would have been able to throw out some actual names. ^-^; I've only seen like 6 or so episodes.

Shorty22: The target demographic of the dub might not notice it, but fans of the original (and Shonen Jump) might notice it. We see Jonouchi's dad's legs (he chucks a bottle of alcohol at Yuugi when he tries to come in) and we see Jonouchi's mom when Shizukah is about to have her operation. They are divorced though.
Interesting fact:In Yu-Gi-Oh duelist Volume 7 they edited out Jonouchi sticking up his middle finger at Bandit Kieth. Can we trust Shonen Jump for anything anymore? I suppose it was expected though.

If this is true, middle fingers are ALWAYS edited now. They edited Naruto middle fingers too.
It's not much of an edit, but since it's going to drive more fans away from another series, it's still bad!

They didn't edit out Naruto's double middle finger scene in the first Naruto chapter.
