Doesn't Yusuke (YYH) flip people off in the first few chapters as well? I'm almost certain he did. Ryu: I realize the fans will pay attention, as I'm a fan and I pay attention to all that good background stuff when they sneak some in there. I was just saying, that maybe there aren't too many of those kind of scenes because of the target demographic, but more than likely it's because it's primarily a show to promote the card game and such, as I'm sure Japan's demographic could have handled characterization well, unlike our little short attention span kids. -_-;

The YGO manga is far luckier than even GX, which got a whole bunch of terrible names!
Is Rishid/Odion's dub name being used in the English manga? What about Cynthia/Cecelia? It doesn't matter to me if either one is done, as the naming convention is pretty good...

ViciousKatanaGuy:They are calling Rishid Odeon. It's a shame, Shonen Jump originally stated they would produce their manga uncut, faithful to the original and at the original target audience. Even ass was censored out of Yu-Gi-Oh duelist volume 7.

Where do they state this?
And how is "ass" censored? Japanese cuss words AFAIK are different than English cuss words.

What about Cynthia/Cecelia?

I mean they are making it obvious he was about to say ass, then adding #@!? etc. BK did say Oh my God in English in the original though.
I can't remember where I read that Rishid would be Odion. I think it was a scan of the manga preview from the Cybernetic Revolution sneak preview. It showed the Mai V Malik duel. Until just before Malik's head gets cut off (or at least it looks like that to Mai)
I'm wondering whether Viz will censor the English versions of the pages I showed on the GX thread. I wouldn't put it past them.
No idea about Cythia's SJ name.

Wait - Check the Duelist volumes that cover Pegasus... If the volume with her name hasn't been released yet, it certainly will be.
What did the phrase say?
As far as I know, Viz never said it would not edit the series.
EDIT: The scans don't look that bad...

They don't look that bad to us (I was just proving that the Yu-Gi-Oh manga is not for little kids) but to the new Viz it looks editable. I'm surprised Bakura doesn't get ill, licking eyeball fluid and blood like that ;D
They basically said they would show it unedited.

"They basically said they would show it unedited."
I have never heard of them say that, though I do not own the first issue of SJ. What is the exact statement?

I don't have the first issue but I saw a scan of it when it was first released. It never said they wouldn't edit it, but they did mention that they would keep it entirely faithful to the original. Of course they could have just meant in terms of plot. Don't get me wrong, I don't want Viz to edit anything, it's just after what 4kids did to Yu-Gi-Oh it's hard to trust anything anymore. www.yu-jyo.net/ That is an excellent comparison site for the Yu-Gi-Oh. The author is redoing his older comparisons at the moment.

In that case, it's close but no cigar. They can make one or two edits and still call it "faithful" as the general plot was not messed with.

Editing manga is old news. Viz edited Toshiro Ono's Pokemon series when parents complained. There may be cases where editing doesn't affect anything, but as fans nowadays are shunning edited series, any editing may be bad for most series.

Wow! I go for a week or so and my Anzu thread has bacome a "let's complain about 4kids/vis/4Kids" thread! I'm not complaining, but I am just impressed on how much it has grown. So.... carry on. Just wanted to let everyone know I'm back...

By the way, Viz is calling Pegasus' wife "Cyndia".

Anzu is lucky to get a duel per season. You think they'd bother showing her family on top of that?
If you look at the Marik arc... So you have 4 female characters: Anzu, Shizuka, Mai and Ishizu. And all they all end up either cheering the boys on, in a hospital bed or sitting next to a hospital bed. All unofficial girlfriends and sisters. If YGO was made in the US, you'd see girls in the semi-finals and at least one with a Dragon Card in the Dartz arc.
