One Piece thread 6: The thread of EVIL!

Well, if anyone can sit through 4kids' Craptastic Voyage, then I'm sure they can handle an episode that's actually not spliced...

"Baroque Works" wasn't too bad of an episode. It might have even been good if not for the non-stop puns.

They kept a surprising amount of the original script intact, and they ARE using Mr. And Miss again. What is it with the minor characters getting all the cool voices? Mr. 5 was really good. Miss Valentine was very similar to her Japanese voice. It's practically the same irritating laugh. I like Mr. 9 too. Igaram and Vivi aren't bad, it's just the acting that could be better. And I don't understand why they redubbed Carue's quack. Poor Miss Monday, though. She was much more endearing with a sweet voice.
The worst thing about this episode was the pun overload. Oh gawd, the puns, make them stop. I could swear 4Kids has some guy employed entirely for the purpose of seeing how many puns they can squeeze out of the script.
Of course, since Usopp, Luffy, and Sanji only have one line each in this episode, it automatically makes it more tolerable. ;D

They even kept all the guns and bombs. The really obvious stuff was cut, like Zoro whacking the nun and the kid who at first start praying to God to protect them and then they pull out guns, and they cut Vivi's alluring dance and the peacock cutter.

Oh yeah, and did anyone see the fall preview? With Chopper in it? (no, he didn't talk in it). Looks like we're definately going to Alabasta too. woohoo.

BTW, K-F 141-150 batch is out, and so is K-F 156.

I thought it was a crappy episode, due to some horrible puns and some bad voices. I really can't confirm whether or not Miss. Valentine's voice works.

I liked all the puns XD it was hillariously corney! I take it the Japanese version isn't filled with puns eh? XD.

Zolo's has a really cool voice in my opinion, I notice this every time I watch the dub, it's a shame that, well you know, the show is kinda bastardized most of the time . And I agree with CD about the minor characters having awesome voices; I have noticed it in the past even with BG characters. I havn't heard the japanese tracks, but I really enjoyed Mr. 5 and Ms. Valentine's voices, they were both really unique without having obscure accents.

His name is Igaram. When he blew the saxophone he said "Igarapapa!" or something like that...I'm pretty sure he says the same thing or similar in the Japanese.

No...definately not like the dub. Just a pun here and there every once in a while. But they're Japanese puns that don't translate into English very well (like the "Boxed son" pun). Actually, Usopp's name is a pun. (Uso means lie) And so is his future alter-ego, SogeKing (Sogeki = sniper).

If you're talking about Miss Monday, then, what happened was, is they (4kids) gave Miss Monday a crappy man's voice, I believe it's the same VA as Mr 5(correct me if I'm wrong). Oh, and I prefer to call the 4kids dub of her, the transvestite of 4kids.

But anyways, that preview also seems like 4kids is actually gonna give up their rap (oh god I hope so) for a second theme song. But yeah, that was so freakin' awesome seein' Chopper. However, they are surprisingly early with him, they still have all of Little Garden to go through. Also, did you see they seemed to keep the island eater? Interesting! I'm wondering if they'll explain that it was the Island Eater that shat out Nanohana (the island Miss Allsunday told them to go to Arabasta (dubbed Alabasta, probably because of the eternal pose, however, everywhere else, even on Toei's website, it's Arabasta)) Anyways, next week we'll hopefully see Igaram dressed up as Vivi. Yay Igaram!

And that "Pain in the sash" pun was way overused in this weeks dub. I heard it like 400 times about half-way through the episode. But it still wasn't as bad as that Iceburg Laboon... Nothing could be worse than 4kids' Craptastic Voyage episode. NOTHING!!!

EDIT: Carue's quack!: the VA who does japanese Sanji does Carues quacking!!! SO, they probably got David Moo to do the quacking! (not true to my knowledge) But you're right, there was really no need to re-dub the quacks. They didn't re-dub Laboon's howling! (yes, they left that in. And I'm pretty sure they could've left the origional quacks. But since 4kids is pretty quack themselves...

Well, I knew it, the so called "Plight of the Navigator" episode listed on Toonzone didn't show. Instead it was "The Theif with a Heart of Gold" so forget anything about a separate cut being made for Toonami (again ).

On another note, I noticed in the opening sequece, the One Piece logo was edited so the "Shonen Jump's" part of title above was removed.

Somehow, I'm beggining to think that 4kids is trying as best as they can to disguise the show as one of their own. The closest thing to plagairisim without it exactly being plagarisim in sense, but thats just my thought...

I didn't see the preview, but how's the new theme sound. God, they will surely f**k up Chopper.

Um, if this isn't new news, sorry but I just read it and thought of you guys...

In Anime Insider, there was a little Coming Soon section. And in it it said,

Toei Animation will be bringing the 4kids broadcast version of One Piece to DVD. It will be the American TV version, edited and with no Japanese track in sight.

D: How cruel! *kicks 4kids* I'm really sorry. ;-; Bah, >__< 4kids makes me so angry..

Yeah, we did know about that, Inu. Although, more recently, I found out Viz is going to start handling One Piece DVDs...but what this means in terms of whether there's any hope for uncut DVDs, I really don't have any idea at this point.

BECAUSE SHE IS A MISS. You probably noticed that I mostly gave up on making uncut clips, because lately there's been so much stuff cut and changed, it's exhausting to think about. But I think I'll make a clip of the REAL Miss Monday talking.

Edit: just a side note....

While going back to look at Whiskey Peak, it just occurred to me that 4Kid's cutting of the whole part with Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday hitching a ride with them, they cut one really hilarious scene where Luffy makes his snowman shoot off the head of Usopp's "snow queen" ice sculpture. How dare they! I love that scene.

Yes, Chopper speaks just like a normal person with intelligent sentences, except he sounds like a kid (Ikue Ootoni does his voice, the same person who does Pikachu ). I don't know what he'll sound like in the dub. They didn't have him speaking in the preview.
