Dora!

Okay, this may sound like the most idiotic thing your eyes have ever fell upon. However, recently there have been some events that have moved me to get some answers.

I have had some conversations with people from all walks of life about this show, Dora the Explorer (yes, that's what I said) and the thoughts have been interesting. I watch this show more often than anyone I know, especially my age; and I was beginning to think that the practice was weird. The people I talked to were in different age groups, some in the 7-12 range, some in the 15-20 range and others in the early thirties. Surprisingly, the older people I talked to watched the show more often and had good things to say about it.

Which brings me to the question of this thread. Does anyone watch Dora the Explorer or has seen an episode? If so, what are your thoughts about it- good or bad?

If I have duplicated this somewhere else on the forum, feel free to lock it. I won't be offended. Just don't burn me at the stake.

well, my cable sucks, so I get to watch it very rarely, but...

...this show is BADASS. Swiper is my homedog, I even let him get away with swiping stuff sometimes...

I don't like how she stares at me. Waiting... for me to talk. And then she presumes I DO talk.

In all truth, I really fear her stare. It gives me honest nervousness. I have never watched a full episode mind you. Because, she scares me away. I guess if I tried, I might like it, but, damn.... I just find it creepy. Pretty neat art style I have to admit.....very connected, not many brancing off, it all is really self contained.

I know what you mean, Vasuki, about her staring at you. It's hypnotizing. Except when she asks me a question, I answer her. It used to freak me out, but to the point where I had to watch it again. I really can't say why I watch the show so much; my education has obviously advanced from that level. Maybe it's the artwork. Or the stare...

I used to watch Blue's Clues sometimes *laughs* . I don't know, it was cute. I was a little embarassed about it when it was somehow mentioned one day at my old job.
With embarassed grins, a whole group of us admited to watching the show from time to time .

(Not that I was a regular watcher, I only saw an episode or two. ..... and the birthday special *cough*. MOVING ON.)


I've seen Dora once or twice, it's a bit TOO young for me though, so I've never watched an entire episode. It's cute. And It's awesome that the main character is spanish (Lovely is Spanish).

I've seen the spanish version of this show too. It's funny because the parts that are said in spanish in the english version are said in English in the spanish version. heh heh.

Hmm, her stare IS kinda creepy...

...I don't like how sometimes, she talks down to me. She asks me a question, and I get it wrong... (this doesn't happen all the time, I'm not that dumb... T_T) ...she just corrects me, completely blowing off my answer. She can at least aknowledge me... ;_;

Yes, I guess her stare is creepy because she pauses for a long time. When she stares at you, everything including the background is still. She can be belittling at times but it's not offensive. She taught me some Spanish, for goodness sake.*stabbed*

Okay, being a parent allows me to watch kiddie shows and pass it off as just letting my son watch what he wants to and I can reap the benfits without looking like someone that watches kiddie shows.... >_>;;; umm..anyway...

I don't normally watch it, but I think it's cute, but I just absolutely LOVE Vas's response and like most cases, I wish I had thought of it first......XD

I began watching it fr about 1 or 2 weeks but I stopped cause it reminded me of a pic I saw in a Hentai forum. >>;;;

I started watching this show with my cousins and they would dance and sing along with Dora. Eventually I found myself watching it alone. I don't have cable so there are 15 channels to choose from, 4 of which are Spanish. She comes on Telemundo twice a week and on PBS every day (crap I've just revealed my location) and so I catch a lot of it. I tend to watch shows like this because they're safe. I know I won't see any nudity or unnecessary gore. And of course, Dora won't curse me out for not finding the key in the bush.

This kind of is the same problem with a lot of kiddie shows (heck... I know most of the time Blue's Clues does it). But I must say that the everybody stare at the viewer thing is kind of creepy.
Oh... and some of the songs tend to drive me insane too. Saying the exact same phrase over and over can get under your skin I admit.

P.S. Both of the said shows I don't watch regularly (I'm more of a Reading Rainbow fan).

Dora....scares me. I think me and resurie have talked about it before...I used to watch it occasionally when I was younger, i forget why, I mean i didn't enjoy it...sometimes it would be on when i left the tv on. It bothered me oO; But yeah...meh, Dora annoys me. Resurie said something about her singing a song like, "I don't know where we're going" or "Where are we going" or something like that..and i said something like, "Where are we going?" "SHUT UP AND GET IN THE VAN!" ..xDDDDD We were in a chat at the time and everybody cracked up. X3;

I'm mean for that >>; But, eh, I guess the show's alright....I don't like it much though.
