Starting this thread because the other threads are either lost or locked ^^;.
So uh, yeah, there's this show called "Naruto." It's an amazing show that made Anime fans of all shapes, kinds, and interest, come together....
.....and want to kill each other.
*laughs*
Anyways, discuss the US release here. That includes the anime and manga.
I'll start with a small message to the vocal and obsessive (sometimes obnoxious) Naruto fans.
Yes, it's airing on Toonami. HOWEVER, an undedited release IS coming out. So if you don't like the dub... no one's forcing you to watch it. An undedited LEGAL release will soon be in your hands. So chill. And quit letting your obsessiveness drive people away from your show.
If you DO dislike something, be logical about it. Nothing makes people stop listening more then a person who just doesn't make sense.

What channel would that air on? I've never seen Naruto (never heard of it before this message board) and I want to check out the dub. (Yeah, I said it. *dodges incoming bricks*)

It will be on Cartoon Network, on Toonami. Saturday, I believe? I don't have American CN. >_> And it'll be airing on the 10th of this month.

Yay! 4kids sucks because they didn't gert their greasy dirty shitty smelly hands on this show! Viz did a pretty good job with it! But I had a post all lined up on the "so this is what hell sounds like" thread, and when I posted, it said the thread had been LOCKED! So I lost my entire post! I think its major point was... Things Viz did: - Release Uncut DVDs - Ultra-minimal edits - Chose VAs that matched as closely as possible to how they would probably sound if they were western - Kept origional BGM - Kept origional names - Didn't butcher Things 4kids would've done, if they had gotten the show: - Cut, copy, paste anything and everything they can get their hands on - Let's just say "Bye bye BGM" - Shitty voice actors, including Dan Green, Eric Stuart, and possibly David Moo, and Luffy's VA would be Naruto - The show would be shit for a large portion of the american audience who haven't seen this show yet - See: One Piece dub Anyways, you might be thinking, "Wait! 4kids didn't try to licence this show! It's too popular, and violent! It's not for kids, it's for young adults!" Well, I have some info for you, 4kids did try to licence Naruto, however, TV-Tokyo compared the success of two popluar shows in Japan, One Piece (4kids), and Inuyasha (Viz). Viz got the prize mainly because Inuyasha was A) Dubbed right, and B) uncut DVDs. Also, if you didn't know, One Piece is one of the top 10 most popular anime/mangas over in japan right now. (Sorry, but I don't know the actual number it's at right now). Heh, I was a little surprised to see Iruka's knee wound from the clip shown in the last thread. I mean, its not like a gushing, festering artery wound or anything, but its still present. Then again, this IS NOT 4kids.
Naruto himself has a very decent voice, and sounds almost EXACT to his age. (For the record, Naruto is 12)
And I've said it before, but I'm confident that Viz knows and knew EXACTLY what they're dealing with when they licensed the show.
I have a feeling that the show is gonna have an even greater impact than Full Metal Alchemist....

A lot of people at the AoD boards are actually predicting that Naruto will be the next DBZ. In a good way though.
Ok, I'll probably need to explain that.
First off, keep in mind that the majority of AoD board members are in their early twenties or older (and late teens.) The majority of posters there have also been into anime for a while, AND have a collectors mentality. In other words, we're adament about official releases. *cough* We also tend to over-anylise things... *cough*
That said, people are hoping that this show will bring in a large amount of anime fans to the anime fandom. Therefore, hopefully kids will branch out into other anime titles and genre's and making our numbers stronger. Something like that. Bascially, a "gateway" anime, like DBZ was to many current anime fans (of a certain generation.)
....It's late, and I'm not explaining this well v_v .....

I beleive you Throes, but I would definetly like where you learned about that.
Also, If that's true, then this might also show that Japanese companies are catching on to the terrible releases that 4kids showers the US with, which may ultimately lead to mutual suspensions of business with this company. ;D
And it would'nt surprise me at all. I've heard that the Japanese anime industry does rely heavily on the US market and consumers. In some casess, that also leads to shows being licensed even BEFORE the actual production. Theres a little fun fact for ya'll.

I beleive you Throes, but I would definetly like where you learned about that. I heard it from the One Piece Uncensored boards. But it seems to be a massive internet rumor. But I believe it's 100% true. I would like to know if anyone knows a credible source with this news. |

Because, One Piece may be a flop, but Pokemon and Yugioh were/are still popular. Mankin was fairly popular, and MMP is doing very well. So...=/ But really,I too have high hopes for the dub. ^^ I can't wait to see it! >D This also means i don't have to go broke worrying about buying teh manga~ |

I found this so unbelievably funny it isn't.....funny. Erm yes. *cough* To be honest, I'm kinda excited about this. Mainly because I am really pro dub. Being english speaking, I would prefer not having to read at the same time as watch and listen. I still watch subs, but, it does kinda limit me in a way. I have watched Naruto in japanese from, oh, whenever Rock Lee shows up, to, about 100. I read the Manga in Shonen Jump, and, well, until Rock Lee came around, I, well, didn't really read it with much, enthusiasm. I, am not really fond of the "Main 4". But, I will watch the first arc now, because, well, it's there ^_^;;; From what I heard, no complaints. I don't really have the right to complain I think. I heard like, 2 or 3 lines. I do however, not really like how slowly they pronounce Naruto. I don't care if "NAAAA-ruto" is correct, it just sounds weird, forced, and "icky" in english so far. Dieheart fans will complain no matter what. I can hear the girls in my school already >_<;;; I swear, you could kidnap the japanese actors. Force them to learn perfect english, and some fanboys and girls would still complain. We had a slight decrease in Naruto cosplayers this year at the con I go to. With this however, I am sure..... it will be back to the good old "Day of a thousand Sasukes" Meh, it should be interesting to see how this goes, I am exctied to see the dub though. ^_^ |

Uhm, I actually have fairly high hopes for this dub...
...but, I dun have CN. *dies* So...
...well, I'd be VERY surprised if a 'Naruto Uncensored' didn't pop up fairly soon. And when it does, if anyone could direct me to it... I've seen a bit of the original, and am almost entirely up to date with the manga (japanese, foo's!), and I'd really like to see what's being changed...
...and concerning what Vas said...
...*sigh*. I'd really love to see just one Shikamaru cosplayer before I die. Just one, thats all I ask.
