Well here we go again!! The crazy “alleged” parents have once again blamed a game for the death of a child who obviously didn’t have the mental capacity to play a card game that involves dice:
Mother blames game in suicide of 11-year-old son
Yes, it is a very tragic end for the boy who as you could clearly read in the headline, “DID THIS TO HIMSELF!!!” Once again, I must say it seems they boy was not exactly right in the head.
I will now quote a bit of the article from my newspaper. (this is a local story so it may not hit national headlines since I guess my Canton/Akron Ohio area just seems to be starved for news) I will use names since the article does :
Lorenzo Diaz was an upbeat, well-liked student who proudly took on the role of big brother.
But the 11-year-old also had a fascination with animation-based games, particularly Yu-Gi-OH! (DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNN! ) Family members say his interest in the game, which also can include dice (GASP!), started about two years ago but turned obsessive in recent months.
It goes through a bit how local enthusiasts say the game is harmless and how the mother still blames the game.
Here’s more:
On the evening of Nov.10, Lorenzo was found dead at a North Hill park, hanging from a sagging, chain-link fence (and the parents were WHERE?! Answered below). A blue, cloth dog leash was wrapped around his neck, with the leash’s metal hooked to the fence.
Earlier he had been playing with the dice that came with a Yu-Gi-Oh! Card deck…..Lorenzo was babysitting his two younger brothers that evening. Their mother had gone to Salineville in Colombiana County to tend to a cancer-stricken aunt. Step-father Marlo Jackson was returning home from a job in North Carolina( keep in mind this is Ohio)
According to police records, Lorenzo’s brothers, 6 and 8, said he had gotten mad because Brutus, the family dog, had torn through trash in the family’s Oxford Avenue home. In the aftermath of the trash incident, Lorenzo told his 8-year-old brother, Mervin, that he would kill himself if he rolled a “6” on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Dice ( ? Makes perfect sense to me).
“Mervin rolled a 4,” the mother said. “Lorenzo said ‘You live!’ Then Lorenzo rolled a 6…Lorenzo tells Mervin, ‘I die!’ and he leaves.”(Sounds like an upbeat, well-liked student who proudly took on the role of big brother to me!!)
It goes on about how the kids waited and he didn’t return and a neighbor found him a short time later after it was too late. The mother even says, “ I know he didn’t do it intentionally, because that just isn’t Lorenzo”. Maybe not YOUR Lorenzo but perhaps you really didn’t know your son as well as you thought huh?
Then the lunacy starts:
“I want to get the word out about these cards so parents think and are more aware of what they buy for their children.” That’s nice.
I love how the paper describes this. The quotes make it funny.
Lorenzo often went to participate in Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournaments, youths and adults fill tables most weekends for “duels.” They battle with cards and take each other’s “life points” away. OH DEAR LORD NOT THAT!!!!
There’s more that has to do with the argument about how it’s not evil. I’m just glad I never read the word the devil in the article or I just would have burst out laughing right there at work.
I would like to say that I am in no way trying to make a boy’s suicide funny, but to blame a set of dice and cards for your son’s hanging is just ridiculous. These things are made for kids. If he doesn’t have the mental capacity to play with ink on cards or numbers on dice, then perhaps he should have found a safer hobby.
I’ll quote this loon one more time,:
It’s like Dungeons and Dragons where a young kid gets so involved in a game it totally takes over their mind,” she says. “I believe that’s what happened to my son. This game took over his mind.”
Curse you Yugi!! XD
