Yes, I realise we have another AVATAR thread, but I wanted to give some extra attention to this announcement.
(Also, I'm the admin. I can break rules when I feel like it! MUWAHAHAHA!!! *cough* Sorry.)

That said, this Thanksgiving 11-24-05, Nickelodeon is having an Avatar: The Last Airbender marathon. From 12pm (noon) to 9pm. If you guys get the chance, please check it out.


I'm actually pretty excited about the marathon because the episodes are apparently going to start from the begining AND be in order.
Because the first two episodes are actually a "one hour special" I don't believe Nick has ever showed it again since it's initial showing. Meaning... I've never seen them.

For those of you who don't know. Avatar is currently my favorite show. Anyone who never watched a complete episode and then goes on to calling it an "anime rip off" will be promptly hated by me and forevmore ignored .

The show mixes the best things from both Western and Eastern animation and story telling. I would describe it as an "adventure/traveling" show.

The show is good in the fact that the characters are likable, the story is interesting and often dramatic, but it still takes the time to have a good sense of humor.

Another reason I like the show is because it isn't a simple EVIL vs GOOD show. There are lots of shades of moral grey.

Anyhoo, please watch! You heard me, put the turkey down, ignore your families and watch some episodes of Avatar ;D !

Well anyways, I've seen a little bit of the show and it does seem kinda cool. And I do have younger cousins, so maybe I'll catch the show if they're by any chance watching Nickelodeon.

FUN FACT: "Shichi-men-cho" is the Japanese word for the traditional [dinnertime] turkey. It literally translates to "Seven-faced bird." Not even my Japanese professor knew the origin of that saying though...

I've only seen the first two episodes of Avatar and it was a pretty cute show. I'll be going to my grandmother's for Thanksgiving and she no longer has the Internet, so I might check out the marathon if I'm bored, but I could see about possibly taping it, since I might not be able to watch all of it if I'm at my grandmother's. And to be honest, I don't think the animation in Avatar is really all that "animeish." To me the animation feels more similar to Jackie Chan Adventures than it does to anime. Not so random question! Is Avatar an American cartoon or is it Italian? I was just wondering since it seems like almost all those "animeish" cartoons out there are Italian cartoons.

The show is American, kind of. It's was created by two Americans. But a lot of the animation is done in South Korea (apparently.)
I'm thinking it's similar to how Japanese animation is done. Some of it done in it's country or origin, a lot of inbetweening/coloring done in Korea. This is just conjecture on my part though.

Every once in a while during the commericals Nick has one of American guys show how to draw a cute Aang ...

Random fact: The show has actual martial arts consultants. Each "bending art" is actually based on a real martial art.
For example, waterbending is based on Tai chi. (see more here)

Unfortunately for me, I have the Latin American Nick. XP So it's not going to be on for me. Besides, I'm not too wild about watching most shows in Spanish. >.>

I saw a little bit of Avatar once on DirectTV, where I can put the Latin Nick in English. ;; But it was only half an episode. It did look rather interesting though. I was sort of confused if a certain character was a girl or a boy at first though. >_>;;;;

It occured to me today that I might be over-hyping this show too much ^^;. But I can't help it! I really like it *blush*...
