Anyone who subscribes to Shonen Jump should have gotten a DVD with the dub of first episode of the show with this this month's issue.
I thought it was really good, although I think Sai's VA was overacting a wee bit.
But hey, accurate to the orginal, original (and rather kick-ass) music, and no "Ultimate Checkers" or "Henry Schantzes" in sight!
So, any other thoughts?

Wait, it's the dub?
....
Oh well, I planned to purchase the DVD anyways. : D;
Hum, I'm really excited, a friend who subscribes is going to let me borrow it soon, so, huzzah! : DDDDDD Thoughts shall be posted here soon by me.
By the way, did they keep the original opening? Thanks for any and all responses to this question. *bows*

They keep the original OP and ED. The credits are translated, but there aren't any song subtitles.
I like all of the voices so far.
I think the reason the anime (for both this and Naruto, actually) is more accurate than the US manga is because I remember reading that with the manga they hire US comic writers to "punch up" the humor, so they take some liberties.
I wonder if they're going to do this for Naruto, Zatch Bell, or One Piece. It's a great marketing tactic.

Well, we've gotten demos of Grand Battle and Dragon Quest VIII, and a DVD this month? Heh, I wouldn't be surprised if they packaged a demo of any of the Naruto games coming out early 2006.
I wonder if they're gonna consider a TV slot for the show. I've heard some rumors when the news got out that it was first liscenced, but by the looks of things, it seems to be exclusive to DVD.

I recently received the DVD as well... so far I liked it but...
Sai's voice actor was going a little bit overboard (I was expecting him to have a higher voice though)
Akira's voice actor... *thunbs up*
Can't go too in-depth since I was constantly distracted by my dad who kept on bothering me while I was watching it.

I liked it much better than I though I would. I'm actually hooked.
Sai didn't sound girly enough though... And I thought, though Akira's voice was good, it was a bit too deep for him.
Loved Hikaru's voice. Same VA as for Ed Elric, right?

Loved Hikaru's voice. Same VA as for Ed Elric, right? Nope, Elric is played by Vic Mignogna, Hikaru is played by Sam Vincent. Ironically though, Sam Vincent is also the voice of "Edd" in "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" XD

You know, I haven't seen the dub yet, but I just remembered something about the original show that annoyed me a bit.
SORT of Spoilers:
In the begining, the voices of all the characters were perfect. But as the series progresses, the characters age (it's gradual, but the diffence between the young Hikaru at the beging of the show and the mid-teen Hikaru at the end look quite different.) Anyways, the voices never change! And it is INCREDIBLY odd to hear that young slightly-girly voice coming from the obviously older looking Hikaru and Akira.
Still love the show though (it's odd how addicting the show becomes.) I hope the actual release by Viz won't be screwed up. On the bright side, there really isn't anything to edit from the anime. Oh, does the anime still have that "learn to play Go" live-action segment at the end?
I kind of doubt it does... but it really helped me out back in the day ^^;....
Oh, and I doubt Hikago will get a tv release. The show is just to hard to market.

Oh, does the anime still have that "learn to play Go" live-action segment at the end? I kind of doubt it does... but it really helped me out back in the day ^^;.... The sample disc didn't have the that segment, but it was mentioned in the ending credits, so my guess is that the final product is gonna have the "Go, Go, Igo" ending segment, or its most likely gonna be a "special feature" on the DVD. But yeah, that segment was pretty helpful. I should start getting back into the acutal game Theres always an outside chance. All the other Shonen Jump anime thats come stateside seems to be doing well. And I could easily see this being promoted alongside other titles. "From people who brought you 'Naruto'....*yadda yadda yadda*...'Hikaru no Go!'" And as far as I'm concerned, there nothing that would be objectionable to viewers on TV. If it stays DVD-only thats fine with me, but I could picture this show having a place on Toonami.

Yeah, but all the other Shounen Jump shows are all fighting shows... Hikaru no Go is more of a sports show.
Marketing Hikago as another Naruto would be horrible ^^;.
They could try marketing it as... "MORE THAN JUST CARDS" or something like that *laughs*.

That's probably part of the reason that they wouldn't give Hikago a TV release. There's no real action (as in fighting scenes), so there's not much that would hold kids' attention. Unless they were to put it on Adult Swin, which I doubt they would do. D:
