Me, console RPG's are my GOD XD. No offense to the lord and all ^_~ . Over the years, I have developed into a stict console RPG gamer, to the point where I don't really play other types of video games. Here is a somewhat old list (complete with mini-reviews) of RPG's that I have owned and or rented. After that I've purchased Dark Cloud2 (PS2) and recently I've purchased Tales of Symphonia(Gamecube) . ToS is a GREAT game by the by. For anyone who is familiar with anime the story is technically a bit predictible (though it still manages to be interesting). However, the game MORE than makes up for this by having a cast that is FULL of interesting and likable characters. Not to mention that it boasts the wondering battle stytem that should be familiar to anyone who has played previous Tales games. So, what about you all? Any RPG fans out there?

I haven't played a whole lot of console RPGs. I tried playing FFVIII and I haven't been able to bring myself to finishing it.
LC and I are currently working on Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. I like how different parts of the world change over the years, except you keep having to go through the same dungeons in order to level up high enough to be able to beat the boss enemy. I really enjoyed the ~10 minute cow race in that game though...had me laughing for a while.
I know what RPG I really liked. Ys for the Turbo Graffix was a lot of fun. Although I didn't get to finish it, I only finished book 1, couldn't get past book 2. Really good music too.
I still haven't finished Zelda: Ocarina of Time and I keep dying in Silhouette Mirage (PS1) -_-
LC is going to probably shake his head at this one. But I like Animal Crossing (LC hates it)...although I wouldn't call it an RPG...more like a sim game. But you get to talk to all the animals and collect things and go to events...and the game ruins your life...but it's so addicting...
Does anyone play any MMORPGs? I'm excited about World of Warcraft and would like to try that when it comes out.

I LOVE RPGs, but...I never seem to finish them. I rent 90% of the games I play, and I'm less likely to finish games unless I have them readily available. (ironically enough, one RPG that I currently DO want to finish is .hack//(specifically, I want to get through Quarantine), which I can't find in the rental store, and any of the stores around here that sell games. Sigh...) Anyway... I've only played 3 Final Fantasy games. You heard me. It's more like 2 since I started up FF Tactics, got bored in 5 minutes, and quit. Yeeeeaaah.....the other two were FFII and FFIV. The only MMORPG I've played is Runescape., which I have an odd relationship with. I'll start a new account, paly a while, get bored, quit, go back with another new account a couple months later since I can't be bothered to get the old one back, play a while, get bored...lather, rinse, repeat. The new 3D version will probably hold my interest a LITTLE bit longer than before. List of RPGs I've played(Anything with a (*) next to it means that I actually completed it) Pokemon RBY(* (for all 3)),GSC(* (for all 3)), and Sapphire(*) .hack// Infection(*), Mutation(*), and Outbreak(*) FFIV FFII Azure Dreams The Legend of Dragoon Breath of Fire III Breath of Fire IV The Legend of Mana The Legend of Zelda:Majora's Mask The Legend of Zelda:Orcania of Time Lunar:Silver Star Story Digimon World 2 Digimon World 3 Suikoden Wild Arms Wild Arms 3 Harvest Moon:Back to Nature (*) (it's TECHNICALLY an RPG, even if there's not much action. Plus GFAQs lists the HM games in the RPG section) Harvest Moon:Save the Homeland Harvest Moon:A Wonderful Life Monster Rancher 4(*) (it's an RPG...until you beat it. Then it becomes a simulation/fighting/adventuring game.) FF Tactics --- Yeah...as you can see, I love old-school games(even though I never finish them ). ...ack. This post was longer than I intended it to be ...it's the list's fault >_>

The last Final Fantasy I played was 1. I've sat in on most of the other ones so I'm familiar with the story but I don't like how linear they are...extremely linear.
I come from the excellent RPGs that were released for the Turbo Grafx 16: Dungeon Explorer 1 and 2 Cosmic Fantasy 2 Exile
And at the very top would be Ys Book 1 and 2. It was the first CD RPG ever released, on the first CD console system ever released in 1988, it was about 3 times as long as any RPG around that time for the Genesis or Nintendo, and it had real music, voices, and cut-scenes which Genesis could barely do the latter at the time with their Phantasy Star Online series and Ys was the first game to ever get a 10 in Electronic Gaming Monthly. It was just, that good...a compilation disc of Ys Book 1 thru Book 5 just came out in Japan last year for PS2 because they released Book 6 for PS2 (yeah, they call them books) Book 4 was supposed to be the best but the Turbo Grafx died in the US before it could be released over here.
Looking over Oversoul's list I give a nod off to the many Zelda incarnations and Wild Arms was an interesting setting.
Persona is a good, wierd game to look into...the town is being swallowed by the spirit world and everyone is turning into monsters...you can fight the monsters, you can use your Persona abilities to turn into monsters to fight, or you can make friends with the different monsters by buying them stuff, through flattery, telling some of them jokes...they'll give you their card and if you have a monster's card it won't attack you anymore. It's the only RPG where I didn't have to flat out kill everything to move on...and you can still shop at the mall because, hey, the entire town got pulled in!
Anything imported by Working Designs (Cadash, Exile, Cosmic Fantasy, Lunar, Silhouette Mirage)
Sorry Oversoul...I think I've got you long beat on old school...I still have my Final Fantasy strategy guide from Nintendo Power AND my overworld map of Dragon Warrior in my closet.
Coming into this thread and reading the other posts I remembered a moment from Cosmic Fantasy 2...you spend the entire game trying to get your fiance back from the main bad guy...by the time you get to the end of the game you find out she died. They play this piano ballad of her theme with her voice echoing her last letter to you as your main character reads it, cherry petal blossoms falling around you. I was totally devastated.

I hate, almost with a passion turn based battle systems. I cant get, something like...
Cloud: Hello there chap Sepi: Ah, we doing this battle thing? Cloud: Yep, just warming up Sepi: k Cloud: Ah, it appears it is my turn to attack Sepi: hmm, it seems so Cloud: alright here I go *cloud goes up and slashed sepi* *999999 damage* Sepi: Ow. Sepi: Ah, its time for my attack Cloud:Very well, Im just gonna continure standing here, mabey Ill do a bit of rocking back and forth if you dont mind, I think the faster I sway, I might be able to dodge. Sepi:k *Sepi does huge disasterous attack of d00m* Cloud: *miss* Sepi: dang. Cloud: hmm, this bar seems to be full, Im gonna do some bigger attack now Sepi: dang *cloud does the same attack with some sort of godly graphics* *999999999999999999 damage* *Sepi fainted* *fanfare* Cloud: yay. 1000000000 EXP Gained money for some reason Gained obscure item that really shouldnt have been in enemie's inventory. Sepi: dang, you defeated me, now I am going to fly away, and go destroy something in one blow, even though, I had to wait my turn a minute ago Cloud: k, Im gonna go practise attacking more than once at a time.
Anyways, that was basically a rant....
Actually, I seriously LOVED Earthbound, but, really its the only pure turn based RPG I have been able to handle. Mario RPGs have been great fun, and, there is this VERY under-rated SNES game called E.V.O the search for Eden, you all must play it NOW, unless you are very religious, in which, case, dont. Amazing how all these games have humour....
I really like RPG storylines, as, they tend to be better than other games, but, thats about it. I also really love games that incorperate RPG elements into action oriented games, like Custom Robo GCN (easy, but amazing), Sonic Battle, and, those Zelda things.
All for now, I hope I didnt offend anyone with my little, thing up there. I should mention that I havnt played FF7, but, I have a friend who loved it, and I heard so much about it it was sickening. From what I heard it had some interesting characters and so forth, but, I really hate how hyped and used Cloud and "Sepi" are, which is why they are placeholders in that thing above. Made it sound better than just "Hero" and "Ultimate Villian of demise"

Suikoden Xenosaga Suikoden Xenosaga Suikoden Xenosaga.
Those are my favorites.
I've played both 'Gears and 'Saga, and I've played 4 of the 7 Suikoden games currently released, and will have played 5 of them once Suiko 4 comes out in January.

Suikoden Xenosaga Suikoden Xenosaga Suikoden Xenosaga. Those are my favorites. MARRY ME! (kidding... sorta... ^_~) O.k, so Suikoden has the three main games, the two gaidens and two (?) card games. The US only got the three main games and not the others (*sniff* Suikogaiden....) . SO! Which one of the Japanese games did you play Dess? (Concerning the Gaidens- I know the story behind them because Suikosource has a picture summery of the game. Nash is so cool XD ! )

Ever since I played FF 1 I have been in love with console RPGs. After playing and finishing every FF title except FF 11 and X-2. I haven't been able to finish it yet, I have decided to pick .hack. LOVE IT!!! Then I went and got Xenosaga. LOVING IT!!! I have played throuhg every Zelda before the GC came along because I don't own one. (send me money please....) ;D I also play Lunar Silver Star Story complete just for nostalgia purposes, I played it for the Sega CD back in the day and fell in love with Luna. My first video game crush . Once they re-released it I pounced on that game immediatly. I could go on but that's enough for now. Oh and LC I hear ya on that FF guide and Dragon Warrior map. I still have those somewhere too. I jumped on Nintendo power when they gave dragon warrior away for free. Who could resist. A free console RPG? HELLO!!!!! you don't have to tell me twice!!

Anywho, I've played Suikos 1-3 (plus the demo of 4), and Card Stories (GBA). There's the two Gaidens I haven't played, and Suiko 4 (which has been out in Japan since summer. It's out in January here). But Ted-sama is back!!!!!!!!!! But I do also collect the physical cardgame as well. I've got most of Suikoden Card Stories volume 3, a bunch of cards from Suikoden Card Stories II volume 3 (including a really cool Luc and Sarah team card), and the three special cards that come with the GBA game.

Well these arn't all I've played, but they are my faves.
Xenogears-It has giant robots. I played this game so much I could do something the guy who wrote the EGM guide thaught was impossible. Every monday for a year I beat the endboss. I had a dream that I was playing a sequal, that inspired me to write a series based on it(But not a fanfiction) Oh and they didn't run out of money, but rather time. Squaresoft forced them to finish before they were ready. Wich is why the programmers went to Namco for Xenosaga.
Final Fantasy 7- I just love it soo much.
Star Ocean 2- Lovely I know your pain. This game made me so angry I had to replace my PS1. But eventually I learned a few things that made it much easier. You really need to master the item creation. And that I had done a cutscene that made the endboss 100 times more powerful. Still haven't beaten that save file, but on replays where I didn't trigger that cutscene I can beat him with ease.
Tales Of Symphonia- For the first 20 hours I really didn't like the story. Then the revalations started, and now this game has one of my all time favorate stories. And a message about the true meaning of sacrifice.
Skies Of Arcadia- Should something turn based be this much fun? Plus it has that all important sense of wonder.
Super Mario RPG- The first RPG I ever played.
And the worst game I ever played....
Beyond The Beyond- I got this used from EB. And I never returned it or traded it back in because I would never want to inflict this abomination upon another human being. I don't think there is even one good feature in this entire game. And to think this was the first RPG for the PS1 in the US.
