I wanted to do a Sonic topic but someone already did that, since I knew more about Sonic than Final Fantasy. So, anyone like the series? I've only played Crystal Chronicles, which was great ! Oh, and what games are there (I'm too lazy to look )

Well Final Fantasy started back in the '80s with the original Fina Fantasy. It was Square's last game. If it flopped, then they would have gone under. Lucky for them, they struck gold with the game and have made more than 10 sequels.
And a movie that I wish I wouldn't have mentioned. they would have done so much better if they made a movie off of one of their previous titles. I believe they have already with Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children whic is a 60min. or so CG movie that is a direct sequel to the game for the PSX.
I have played and beaten every final fantasy except for 2 and 3 sonce they weren't released in the U.S.
Square instead released Final Fantasy 4 in the U.S. as Final Fantasy 2. They made a fifth game for the SNES which can be played if you buy the FF Anthology for the PSX. They then released FF 6 as FF 3 in the U.S.
After the Playstation hit the market Square dumped Nintendo and went with Sony, which is the exact same thing I did. I loved the game series and I would follow it to any system it goes except one.
When the PS hit the market Square released number 7 which it kept the same number in the U.S. At the time I was wondering "Where are 4-6?" I thought they may have been beta games that they trashed or something. I also now know about the whole Xenogears/FF 7 thing that makes Lovely and Dessa so upset. I'm sorry, but I still heard that Xenogears was a great game, and I'm glad FF 7 wass too.
Then came along 8,9,and X (10) and XI (11) and X-2. I have X-2 and I still haven't finished it yet. I love the way they took the series, but I will not get XI. I refuse to pay monthly to play a game that I have already payed for. They should have made it something you order and you can make up the cost of the game as you play it online or else Square is making you pay who knows how much just to play one game, and....... I already posted this so I'll just skip it.
Final Fantasy 12 is scheduled for release next year. Spring in Japan, and probably Winter in the U.S. It's back on the television, so I'll be waiting for that game.
I've tried to look for all the knowledge on Square and FF that I could. I never really got into the Tactics games. I prefer just your regular RPG. I'm sure those games rock too though.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is the greatest FF game ever. I've almost completed enough missions to get Judgemaster Cid!

I feel sorry for you, Pinkechidna, unless you have friends who also have the game... the only way to complete the last mission is to have items that are only available through trading.
You see, there are 2 "My Missions" in each game. One of them gives you a special item, and the other requires two special items. However, there are THREE special items in the game. Whatever item you get from your item "My Mission", the other two are the ones required for the other. So you have to have 2 friend playing who just happen to have the other two items, to do it... I know, because I have the other 299 missions complete.
As for games, I've played and enjoyed FFTA (haven't played the original FFT), Crystal Chronicles, and Mystic Quest (yes, I said MQ... I like it... it was my first RPG I beat). I have also played FFVI (III US), but does get monotonous after a while (which is why I'm too lazy to beat it).
As for FFVII-X (and X-2)... well, once Square can actually make new character models, I might begin playing their FF games... but I think I'll stick with Namco and Konami's RPGs with better stories... which also come out in January and February!

Overaaaaated~
Tell a fanboy a new Final Fantasy is out and they'll be all over it. Tell them about another rpg series and they'll be "Wah? What's that? It must SUCK" . Yeah. That and I'm not a huge fan of "realistic" designs. I want cute!
That said, even though I sound bitter, I DO like Final Fantasy. My favorite is VII for nostalgic purposes. (Fun fact. FFVII has a reference to Xenogears when Cloud is in a coma. And Xenogears has a reference to FFVII in the form of a Tifa poster in a random NPC's house ^__^ . Why? The same teams worked on both games.) If it wasn't for nostalgia purposes, then FFIX would be my favorite. I just loved the characters!
Now, I'm going back to complaining ;D.
I have no doubt that Final Fantasy XI is a fun game. BUT IT SHOULDN"T BE CALLED XI. The name "Final Fantasy Online" would of been MUCH more apropriate. FFX-2, I found personally insulting. I still do actually. So for that reason I've never played it. Yes, yes, it may be a wonderful game, but I still feel that it's insulting. FF7-2 Dear God Square, come up with something new...
XII looks promissing. And at least the female main dresses promiscuously from the start, and besides the boy does too *laughs*! I don't mind fanservice as long as it's equal opertunity.
I LIKE it when square gets creative and designs something DIFFERENT. But I'm getting tired of both them AND the fanboys thinking that it MUST be labeled "Final Fantasy" in order to do well.

While I do agree that they label too many things Final Fantasy, I believe that the movie will do a lot better than the one they made in theaters. While the new movie about #7 does introduce new characters, it keeps to the game so you can get a feel for the enviroment and the characters attitudes and such from the beginning. Stuff like "I remember him/her. He/She was in that part of the game." I admit I am a fanboy of Square. I also admit that I pounce on any FF title that comes out. Ususally!!! Why do you hate X-2 so much Lovely? I'm not sure why you find it so insulting. Is it the dressphere system? I guess I can understand that. I will still be waiting for 12 when it gets released. I get immersed in those stories so quickly. And you know me well enough now Lovely to know that I love other RPG's that are out there. I still haven't picked up Suikoden yet. It has a turn based battle system too doesn't it? My wife cannot stand games like those. She cannot even watch me play FF. That may be why I never picked it up yet. Thinking, "Great. Another game my wife won't be able to stand."

Oh, and I forgot to mention something I think Lovely would agree with me on...
It's the whole "Xenogears Disc 2 is crap because Square decided to pull the funding for some FF project instead". ((although, I will admit that I actually do like FF: Spirits Within, and I also greatly enjoy FF: Unlimited... of course, FF:U is amusing because it's so corny))

The ONLY FFs I've played are FFII and FFIV.(old-school!). I don't really see the big deal(then again, I've only played 2 out of, what, 11?). And I, like many others, have wondered: Why is FINAL Fantasy on it's 11-somethingth game?
