I am also a huge fan of the Metroid series. Except for the GC games which I have never played, I love these games. I don't like how Prime looks though. I'm not a fan of FPS. I'll try anything once though.
My fav. is Super Metroid. It just has the best graphics and since they seemed to pass on the N64, Super Metroid is the most recent game they made until Prime for the GC. Either that or I missed the one released for the 64.

I thought that the originals were good but the GC ones arent very good, the controls are messed up and its played on to small of a scale

We (LC and I) got Metroid Prime when we bought our GameCube (it was either that or Mario Sunshine...now that I think about it I should have gotten that instead...meh). Anyways, the graphics were pretty cool and the game was kind of fun at first. But since I didn't know anything about Metroid I really didn't play the game so I just watched LC play. The big problem was having to run from one part of the world all the way over to the other part. So you would be way over on the west side and accomplish something and the thing would say "hey go over to this area that you were at a few hours of game play ago". So you had to spend 30 minutes running from one part of the world to the next part. And it kept doing it to you throughout the game.
The last boss fight was a pretty intense fight too. I'm not sure how many tries it took LC, but it was pretty crazy. I know he got pretty frustrated with it.

$#@!@% hate Metroid !@$@#-Prime with it's #%#@ running back and forth over the #$@% map!
Yeah, I played the first one which was a good puzzle game, missed the gameboy follow up...really really enjoyed the superb job on the SNES version...I even like the concept of the GBA one...
...and then I was completely burned out from Metroid Prime.
I'm not complaining about the graphics...those were insanely well done...but I'm complaining about everything else...the weak storyline, the constant running around the planet back and forth just so the game lasted longer...the three last boss fights that were nothing more than uber-tanks that required you to keep blasting them until they fell...and the terrible terrible AI...since Samus was so clunky to move around they dumbed down all the creatures AI with predictable patterns so you stood a chance against them. Monsters couldn't even pass through doors...alot of times I would open a door, blow out a containment unit with a Metroid in it and watch the Metroid do all the work for me from the doorway...
Oh yeah, the music was terrible too...they could've done alot more.
And that is my jaded biased one-sided opinion of the game...who's next?
