Harvest Moon

This is a thread for discussion on the Harvest Moon games.
My initial thoughts was to make this thread specifically for the A Wonderful life/Another wonderful life games but I figured, what the heck. Lets make this thread all inclusive.

As I wrote in a thread in my blog, I have recently purchased Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life for the gamecube and I simply fell in love. This game is oddly addicting!

For those that don't know, you are basically a character that takes care of a farm, gets married and then has a kid.
Doesn't SOUND fun or addicting.... but it IS 0_0 . (read my journal entry up there for more of my initial thoughts ^^.)


"A wonderful Life" is the boy version of the game.
"Another Wonderful Life" is the girl version.
Now while online today, I noticed something that made me a little sad. A lot of sites gave "Another Wonderful Life" a low review score simply because it was basically the same as A wonderful Life. But... That's the point! One is the girl version one is the boy version. It annoys me that the game wasn't judged on its own merits. But, ah well. It's still a lot of fun.



On to the game Specific stuff!
(In my case, I'm refering to "Another Wonderful Life".)


I also realised today that I've messed up my funds and things ROYALLY and that I probably should re-start but... eh. I want to keep going and see what happens, even if my character struggles finacally . Oh, and apparently selling my cow was kind of a stupid thing to do *laughs*

Oh, and technically there is an easy cheat to get some money but... I don't wanna cheat!
I'll struggle on my own.

Oh! Another thing that saddened me whilst i was perusing sites online was the fact that a lot of people don't seem to lmy favorite character Rock! In fact, some called him... annoying!
This saddened me much. I really love Rock and his goofy and sometimes Narcisistic behavior ^____^ . But that's the beauty of the game I guess. You end up with who you want.


I recently started year two and my kid is sooooo adorable. Maybe a little TOO adorable. He's distracting ^^;. But I learned today that I can take the kid with me when I'm running errands so it should be alright.
I named my kid "Thomas" by the way.

i played the one ps2 harvestmoon game, save the homeland. i loved that i was angry you couldn't get married and stuff but it still was fun. i also played the gba girl and guy versions. i liked the girl one a lot i wanted to marry rick but i missed one of the heart event thingers. anyway i am getting the game cube girl version for my game cube i also plan to get for christmas.... yay for christmas. i just hope it's as good as the other harvest moons it seems a lot better and you can do a lot more! ^___^

I LOVE Harvest Moon (hence my avatar). 64 is my favorite, AWL (the boy version) is second. I just got to year two in AWL, and the character's son as a toddler is so adorable. But my kid is hyperactive, so I sometimes...lose him. =P I don't hate Rock, unlike a lot of people, as well. He's crazy, which makes him awesome.

Eh, I'm a Mod on a Harvest moon board, so I may come off as a bit jaded; but I am a very big fan of the series. Compared to older instances of HM games where you could play as girls-- Another Wonderful life was somewhat mediocre beacause most of us got pumped over nothing in the original AWL, Both are fun for a few months, but personally, it was hard for me to pick up the games after I put them down, and getting married was too easy; I did it in a day (the day I got the game, played non-stop till I landed celia.).now, FOMT and MFOMT..Personally, I love the fact that I can piss away 30+ hours at a time on these games, but there aren't enough differences to keep me going...though, like I said earlier, jaded.

Shiawase no Uta (Animal Crossing-ish HM for GC, currently availiable in japan) is fun, though. You get the choice to play as a boy or girl (like in the GBC ones), and the music is great. But, when I first picked up any Harvest Moon game..(my first was GBC 3)..I was hooked, instantly. The idea of farming in a game may seem moronic to most 'hardcore gamers', but, I'd say give it a chance if you're looking for a new kindof game experience.

EDIT: Oh, After you get married, I reccomend planting all fruit trees in the largest field on your farm-- you'll make tons of money and never run out, at least, if you make the fruits into seeds that is. (AWL and AnotherWL specific)

FOMT that was the gba one right? i think at least. i didn't try to get married after i knew i missed one of the events i was to see *was using a walkthrough* so i have no idea how hard or easy it is. but i agree that after i let the games go for a while it was hard to get back into them. although the ps2 one STHL did take up at least 30 or so hours of my life, i almost got all the endings.

I'm saving up to buy a goat. Yes, I know goats only give milk for a year or two and then become useless. I just love goats. *shrug*

Oh, I also am playing More friends of Mineral Town right now. I'm going after Kai which is really difficult since he only comes in summer. -_- But I shall make him mine! >D

I remember one summer I bought "Back to Nature" for the PSX, and I don't remember anything else about that summer....... XD

I attempted to sell my cow because she stopped giving milk and I was kind of annoyed. Buuuuut, I changed my mind and luckily Takakura hadn't sold her yet so I canceled the "sell" order. Guess I just have to get her a mate and get a new cow that way or something...

I haven't had a chance to play lately. My critters must miss me ^^ .

(Oh, and even though my cow kind of went hungry through the winter and won't give me milk anymore. She still really loves me. )

Knowing perfectly well the consequences of the goat, I bought the damned thing anyway. It was too hard to resist... Besides, it's the first HM game with a goat, and I doubt there will ever be another video game series with a goat in it for a while. And goats rock.

I've played Another Wonderful Life and got to Chapter four before my memory card decided to suicide. ^__^
I don't know how to explain, but that game is crack.. My parents saw me playing, and they laughed: "Oh, you're watering the plants again. What a fun game. =D." And well, yes, it can get repetitive as hell.. But it's FUN! D:
I married Rock. :3 He's not annoying, and though I'm not much for the party-loving, bad-ass blonde type, he's just 00ber cute. D: And his kid is freeking hyperactive. Runs around all day!

I was broke so long.. I never, ever ate my veggies, I sold them all and ate those wild plants that grow around. =0; My cows went hungry because I thought the grass would grow on its own, with no need of fertilizer. >_>

But then my hens started giving me a golden egg a day (each, and I had four or so), so I became rich. >D

For chirstmas I got a gamecube, aswell as AnWL.
