The numbers are 1 thru 108 .

Actually, 108 IS a holy number in Japan. It comes up a lot (hence the reason it comes up in Suikoden ^_~ .)
In fact, Anna's regular beads that she wears around her neck have exactly 108 beads.
The "upgraded" bead necklace has 1080 . It's 108 with an extra 0 added at the end ^_~ .
