Manta’s POV
It was eleven at night; the driver seemed to be dozing off. So I cleared my throat to wake him up. It worked.
I sighed and stared out the window, it was very dark, and fog seemed to cloud everything but on coming headlights.
I saw lights headed straight for us, at an incredibly high speed. My driver had fallen asleep at the wheel! The light sped towards us, and---
Faust’s POV
Yes, it was finally happening… Eliza and I both had a clinic, again. But this time was different. We now live in Funabari Onsen, and come to our clinic here in Tokyo for work.
The phone at the front desk rang loudly, it only took a half a ring for me to pick it up.
“Good evening you’ve reached the-” I was cut off by a slurred voice.
“Yeah, I know, man, this iz en emergincy… I thnk ee’s dead.” (The spelling is meant to sound slurred) the voice spat, and slid on almost every word.
“’He’, who?” I asked a bit confused.
“I dunno dude.” It answered back.
I continued to ask questions such as, is this person conscious?, where are you?, is he breathing?
I got answers, barely, but soon enough I was out driving the ambulance to the scene. It was quite a nasty crash, the worst I’ve seen in a long time. I dashed out of the ambulance, and rushed over. The boy who had called me before had been okay, the other victim had crashed threw the window, and scraped half of there flesh off on the pavement. I walked over to the body, carrying a stretcher while being closely followed by Eliza. I knelt down and flipped the body over onto the stretcher. I nearly died from horror and shock, to find that the body had been none other than, Manta Oyamada. Yoh’s best friend.
Eliza jumped at the sight. She seemed to be in shock, she shook her head and helped me rush the boys body into the van.
As we neared the hospital, I grew impatient. I didn’t want Manta to die… like Eliza had.
-hours later-
We did all we could to save Manta… but nothing worked. It was hopeless. My failure to defeat death had once again overcome me.
I walked solemnly to the phone, every step making me want to turn back, every step my stomach began to ache more and more. As I dialed the numbers slowly on the phone, I felt more and more displeasure build up. I was becoming weak.
Ring… Ring…
“Asakura residence, Yoh speaking.” A happy voice sounded over the phone.
“Yoh… Manta is… dead.” I stated while choking back tears. The lump in my throat was to large, I let it out in a sob. The line was quiet, I hung up the phone, walking back to the office.
Manta laid on the cold operating table, motionless, breathless, and pale. Then a twisted thought came to my mind. One so twisted it still haunts me to this very day.
