Ok, my friend is having a birthday party and he asked for a theme. I said lets all come dressed as an anime character. So we will. The main problem is...I can't think of who I want to be.
Here's the problem, I want something simple (I don't want to have to dye my hair or wear a wig because I am picky)
So I would like some suggestions on good costumes or tips on how to make costumes since I never cosplayed before.
PS- I'm a girl but I'll be a guy and I have long curly brown hair.
I was thinking about straightening my hair and going as Hao, but the pants and shoes may be a tad hard for me to make.

The following items are your friends for easy/cheap cosplay: 1.) Hot glue gun (works on anything but metal) 2.) fabric paint (good for painting details on clothes) 3.) felt (except felt doesn't keep well, after a while it will start to look bad, but it's good for hot glueing and quick costuming)
Look at those used clothing stores (ie: Goodwill or Salvation Army) for cheap clothing that you can easily alter into what you want to make. You can usually find many different "treasures" for costume usage for a really cheap price.
Those starry belt things that are on Hao's pants could probably be done with either felt or actual belts but you'd have to paint the belts probably. His shoes were lego looking right? (i haven't looked a picture of Hao in a while) Fabric stores sell these soft foam boards that you could shape into his shoes on top of a pair of your own shoes. Except you'll want to get some cement type glue, hot glueing the soft foam just doesn't work very well. Found that out while making a Robo 2000 costume out of the stuff.

Thanks, Saturn.
My dad actually offered to help with the shoes so I'm mostly concerned about the pants. I think, if I DO go as Hao, once I start on the pants I'll get it done pretty fast.
But not too fast or that would just look bad.

It sounds like you've decided to go as Hao. That would be so interesting to see. It seems like his gloves would be the easiest to replicate because they look like knuckle gloves with one solid block over each hand. I could be wrong...*runs and looks at a screen shot*no that's how they look. As Saturn mentioned, you could imitate this with foam or plastic. (I think the plastic may look a bit better, but the foam would be much easier to fashion) The model is the same for his boots. There's one large block across the front and I think a small one across the heel. So the entire thing doesn't have to be blocks. What material will your pants be, if you know? This sounds like so much fun! You have to take pictures of yourself (I don't mean to post on line, but just for memorabilia sake.)

If I do make the Hao costume and it turns out good of course I'll take pictures.
For the pants I think that I'll just go to a sewing store or a craft store and see what cloth they have and see which suits the costume best.

Um, how did the party turn out? (more interested in the costume, though *bricked*)
