Just curious, does anyone know a good program for making animated gifs? The thing is, though, I am looking for a free program. I know CNET have some programs, but they either have set trial periods that expire or watermarks placed over the finished pictures that will not leave unless you pay them. So any advice, or would I eventually have to pay?

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 is the best damn program I know of for making animated gifs. It's not exclusively for it, but the quality is downright superior to that of Image Ready, which is overrated. However, you have to do all of the animation by hand (layer by layer). No fancy built-in actions.
Er. That actually wasn't very helpful |3. I would suggest paying up, it's the easiest (and definitely more legal) way of doing things.

I'd say Elements 2.0 isn't very expensive at all X3. Probably went down since it first came out, but I bought it for $170.00 or so. Now that 3.0 is out, I'm sure it's even cheaper.
