It's very early in the morning where I live and I'm not in bed. Why? Well because I couldn't sleep. Insomnia, perhaps? Does anyone on the board suffer from this at times? If you do, what do you do to combat it? What do you think causes it?
I could go back to bed, but I'm afraid to. I guess that's a different story...

Well, I don't know if it's insomnia, but lately I've been extremely tired. I usually go to bed pretty early, and I sleep through the whole night. But when I need to wake up to go to school, I just can't. I feel incredibly tired and sleepy. It's a mission for me to wake up and get ready. Then at school, I usually end up falling asleep in class. Always the first three periods, sometimes I fall asleep in the last ones too. I really don't know what's wrong with me.

res: I think that what you're experiencing is the exact opposite of insomnia. According to Merriam-Webster's online dictionary, insomia is "prolonged and usually abnormal inability to obtain adequate sleep". And since it seems you've recieved more than adequite sleep, it's not insomnia.
Renna: Honesly, the time of your post (3:51 A.M. Central time) is only about 10 minutes before I hunkered down for sleep. During the summer, I usually stayed up until 5, or maybe 6 in the morning, and sometimes even 7! However, school changed that, also, when I'm at my dads, he forces me to go to bed early (i.e. 1:00, maybe 2:00 in the morning). He's even felt obligated so to tell me to go to bed at around 3.
To be honest, I just don't like sleep. It makes you waste too many precious hours of your lifetime. You know, the average person who gets 8 hours of sleep a night spends 1/3 of their lifetime sleeping? It's true. Jhonen Vasquez puts it best: "Z?" (Question Sleep)

Hmm. I generally sleep more than enough, yet am still tired... but yah, recently I've woken up too much. The dry air from the heaters, I say. It f**ks with ya.

Throes: I had actually been awake since 2:00am CT. That's one of the times I usually wake up in the middle of the night. Every night. But I usually wake up 4-6 times during the night.

Before I went to public school I often spent most of the day sleeping and most of the night awake, I even did most of my work for home school at night, I was always able to pay more attention to it and get stuff easier, during the day I seem to have more of a two track mind. Everything is easier for me to do at night from art fanfictions and studying. But not that I'm in a public school I have to get up at 6 AM and crap. Back in the summer I would spend a good bit of the time awake all night sleeping most of the day. I didn't have about 3 days were no matter how tired I was I couldn't fall asleep or stay asleep, I think it might have been the heat because at the time there was a lot of heat darning the day and the night. Since I had just moved from a small town with hardly no cars and less air pollution (though I DID see a three tailed lizard... probably from nuclear pollution) anyway it was a bit more humid and my body was still adjusting. only ways I could think of to keep yourself on a day time schedule would be Get something to do during the day ( even if it is just TV) and maybe also if you have a heater on, turn it off... if it's cold just get a heating blanket (or mattress pad)... it's a good idea so long as you don't sleep with you mouth open... which would probably lead to a sore throat. If you can't turn the heat all the way off just start off putting the heater on low for about a week and up the temperature every few nights... that might work. Like Resurie I could sleep from 9 PM to 6 AM and still be falling asleep all day, normally I fall asleep when the teachers make us watch videos @_@, lucky for me though I have chorus 3rd period so it wakes me up some. (mostly because one of my friends sometimes brings coffee candy *.* )

Alls I can say is that you should never drink anything caffinated late at night. Even then, its probably one of those things thats common sense....yet it still happens...

I always thought insomnia is when you can't go to sleep period. It could be that you're feeling a bit restless at night (happens to me sometimes). Try doing something that calms you down or bores you to sleep.

I guess this is somewhat of a good example of insomnia. Last night, I hunkered down for bed at around 12:30 A.M. (considering that I had school the next day, today). I was not only listening to music (which calms you down) but I had been playing iPod solitare, which quickly tires me. Either way, I ended up staying up for a half hour (consciously, that means I know I am up) after when I intended to fall into sleep. Listening to music calms people down supposedly, so how long would it have been if I hadn't had music?

Well its a combination thing...
I'm sleeping in a new bed and its just not that comfy so I toss and turn alot more than usual. And I dont fell like I've slept unless I've drempt but thats not been happining so its a little futial. I always feel like Im not getting enough sleep. (Strange I thought 8-10 hours was enough) Dont get me wrong I stop sleeping so much, just latly its hard to sleep but I still try.
But sometimes I do stay up. And then Im like I slept in and have lots of energy but when the sun comes up I just start to crash and burn.
During the summer I have insomina and sometimes I have it during school and I just go to school with no sleep... (Someone's even said I looked like Faust, with my bags so bad...) *sigh*
