It's driving me... insane...

Okay, small computer problem here. I've tried all that I can manage to solve it, but I failed. So I tell myself, why not ask the smart people at SKU. I'd ask on my LiveJournal, but they know nothing there. *shot*

So, I have this program, LimeWire, I'm sure you've heard of it. Now here's the thing, I absolutely hate all music downloading programs, the only reason I have this is because my dad and my sister just must have their precious music. Oh, don't think I don't use it from time... to time... though...

Anyways, I'm fine with it just sitting on my desktop, since when it's open it makes my computer lag like a bitch, but lately all of a sudden it's been starting up on its own when I sign onto my account, and I DON'T WANT IT TO DO THAT. I've looked through the options, and I think I may have solved the problem, but I haven't checked because I'm lazy.

Oh, that's not all. When I disconnected it, and closed the window, and exited it from the taskbar, IT STARTS UP AGAIN. It's really annoying me to the point that I might just uninstall it, but then my sister and my dad would get all pissed off at me.

If that's not enough, I have another problem. I tried opening the task manager to see if I can solve anything from there, but IT WON'T OPEN. No matter how many times I press ctrl+alt+del, no matter how many times I right click the taskbar and try to open it from there, IT DOESN'T OPEN.

Now. As you can see I have two problems. LimeWire keeps opening, and task manager won't open.

So how can I get one to stop opening and the other to open? I've tried looking, but I keep coming up empty handed.

So please... help me before I go insane.

Well I don't know a whole lot about LimeWire (although I guess I should ask if you have a good firewall or anti-spyware software) but another way to get the task manager up is through the Start menu:

Click 'Start' --> 'Run' --> and type "taskmgr" in the box.

Yeah, I've had that happen to me, alot. I don't even know why it does that. I just re-installed it, it took several times before it actually stopped doing it though.

I have lime-wire, yeah it kinda sucks. Try to delete it from programs, or just get shareaza. It is much better.

It's somewhere in "Prefferences" or some shit like that.

That probably means that the computer is trying to run too much shit at the same time (i.e: spyware/adware).

I would suggest probably rebooting the computer in safe mode, and downloading and running programs like 'Registry Cleaner' and 'Ad-aware' just to clean up the hard drive. Afterwards, reboot normally and try to bring up the task manager again.

Still not sure about the LimeWire situation, but its stuff like that is why I never really considered using LimeWire in the first place. You'd have to keep scanning for trojans and a whole lotta crap!

(Note sure exactly how helpful my advice will be, but those are usually the things that I do when my computer starts to get laggy. ^_^)

I don't have LimeWire or anything but when it says Another program is currently using this file, just exit everything you're using. It's happened to be tons of times. Or if that doesn't work, reboot.

When I download music, I don't have LimeWire, (what does it do?) I just click save as, use WinZip to unzip it and voila, music. But I have a firewall and Anti virus thing active.

Res, I don't know if you still have this problem. But it definitely sounds like spyware. I have Limewire as well, (I don't really know why because I don't really use it) and I just reconfigured my firewall and preferences to keep it from automatically starting and for my firewall not to block it and view it as a threat. Like Tonfa said, you're gonna have to reboot in safe mode. You'll probably have to uninstall the program too, just to be sure. Also, check the Windows Registry for files that shouldn't be there.
