Crash. For those of you who havent been paying attention, this recently won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Not that tat was the reason I watched this movie, cuz I saw it the night before the Oscars in Boston with some ppl. I have to say, what a surprisingly good movie.
It's basically an ensemble set of vignettes about the presence of racism in Los Angeles. It's very well done, and quite hilarious for such a dark movie. And i gotta tell you, I wasn't much of a fan of Ludacris before I saw this movie, but my respect for him has gone way up since. That man is awesome.
Here's the lines ppl seem to remember him most for in the movie (not the exact wording, slight spoilers ahead):
Ludacris: You see that? Why did that waitress offer to refill everyone else's cups, but not ours?!
Luda's Bro: Dude, you don't even like the drink. So what if she doesnt refill your cup.
L: I'll tell you why. It's cuz she sees us black ppl, and black ppl don't tip right? So she refills all them white ppl's drinks. So guess what?! She don't get no tip.
B: Yea, that's right. Racism is the reason. Perhaps you didn't notice that the waitress herself is black?
(skip couple lines)
L: So here we are, surrounded by white ppl. The white lady there sees us scary black ppl, and clings onto her husband for protection. But in reality, we're black ppl oppressed here. We're outnumbered!!! So lemme ask you...why aren't we scared?
B: Cuz we got guns?
(They proceed to carjack that same white woman's vehicle)
[/END SPOILERS]
You know the best thing about this movie? NO ONE is who he or she seems. So we have them azns, and for most of the movie I'm like, "okay, they seem to fit tat azn stereotype of scared, helpless ppl..." but then at the end...[SPOILERS]they turn out to be the evil ppl, and it's the thug Luda who saves the day by releasing some Cambodian slaves from the azn slave traders! it's just awesome...[/SPOILERS] Arite, this prolly seems more hilarious to me just cuz i'm azn myself, but lol w/e.
So yea, watch Crash everyone. Not only is it hilarious, but it's actually got some serious messages about the racism around us. Whatever race you are, it touches you in some way.
