In order to assist Lovely to bring some life here I would like to start this thread. I wasn't here while shaman king was on television, but the board had more life when I joined.
List a few songs you have listened to today. write alittle about the bands and why you like the songs. You can do this as much as you want. So I will start.
Flash of the Blade, by Iron Maiden. Album-Powerslave, 1984. This song wasn't a single on the album, but its still a really good song. Classic Iron Maiden at its best. Up the Irons!!!!
Universal Mind, by Liquid Tension Experiment. This is a really good band. This band includes members from Dream Theater and King Crimson. They put out two albums. It is all instrumental music. It contains some of John Petrucci's best guitar playing. Nice addition of Tony Levin, king crimson, on bass.
Let's Fighting Love, by Trey Parker. Funny song. I listen to this song too much!

Brand New World (TV Size), D-51: The new and sixth opening to One Piece. It's such a great song, I'm working on a little English interpretation as well.
Bark at the Moon, Ozzy Ozbourne: Possibly the hardest song on Guitar Hero.
Greatest episode of South Park EVER!

Greatest episode of South Park EVER! *points to his username* Yes I know, tonfa of Takinawa, stan's ninja alias. That was a really good episode! Have you read the translation to the lyrics? ---- A farewell to kings by Rush. Neal Peart=WIN. Alex lifeson=underated guitar player. Burnt Offerings by Testament, album-The Legacy, 1987. Heavy metal band from the same time as metallica, only much better. Well, Metallica after Cliff Burton died.

Cool idea for a thread Ssteiny . Lately I've been listening to the soundtrack of Tales of Legendia. It's sooooo good. The composer for the game was a man by the name of "Go Shiina." And the instrumentals is done by a real orchestra. It has a very epic-movie feel to it. I especially like the faster tracks ;D. It's fun to drive to.

Fun stuff. I'm currently listening to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (on loop pretty much.) It's such an awesome song. YOU CANNOT DENY!!!
Other songs I am listening to are some by Rick Wakeman, Ozzy, and Weird Al.

Hmmm... **looks at 1419 song playlist** Let's grab some random stuff off of here for today.
"Nikata" by The Yoshida Brothers- Instrumental and awesome. I believe that they use shamisen. If you like anime BGM that sounds like it's classical Japanese stuff, you'll love this. It has that "ancient Japanese" feel to it, but it sounds modern at the same time.
"Angel Gate" by FictionJunction YUUKA- The B-side of the "Silly-Go-Round" single (OP for .hack//ROOTS), the song is just gorgeous. Kajiura through-and-through, it's a ballad, and I actually like it better than "Silly-Go-Round." And the lyrics themselves are gorgeous. "As I child I believed in / the warmth and kindness you gave me / Somehow, somewhere, we got seperated / But I keep the thought of you locked in my heart" (that's the first verse)
"The Christmas Shoes" by Three of Hearts- Sadly, this song was never released on a CD or album. And, okay, it's actually the Bob Carslile version on my playlist. But it's such a pretty song! And I've read the book... I had tears streaming down my face. It's NOT a book to read in one sitting.
"Yume no Tsubasa" by Miyu Irino and Makino Yui- Another Kajiura song, this one's from Tsubasa Chronicles, off of the 3rd character album. Beautiful song in its own right, but having it as a duet between Sakura and Syaoran is perfect.
"MELODY" by 175R- The 3rd stage of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!, it's just a fun song. Especially if you've seen the PV. Oh, and the band's name is pronounced "inago rider" (i-na-go: ichi nana go, aka 1 7 5).

DAY 2!
Montage, by Trey Parker, Team America/South Park. This is a clever and funny song. It was first on South park, season 6 episode 3, Asspen.
Yours is no disgrace, by Yes. Great band from the progressive rock era of the late 60's to mid 70's.
Medieval Overture by Return to Forever. Yet, another incredible band from the mid seventies. I first listened to this a few years ago. Jazz+classical+futuristic stuff I cant explain. This is one of the earliest albums containing slap bass. Slap was developed by Stanley Clark. This whole album is brilliant. I never have heard anything like it before. If anyone is interested look for their album Romantic Warrior in the used or new Jazz section of your record store of choice.
North Korean Melody, by Trey parker, team america world police. This song cracks me up. The drummer in the song is really good. Trey Parker's faux korean is hilarious.
Day of the Eagle, by Robin Trower. Very good british guitar player and singer. He has the quality of Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing and a voice similar to Jack bruce and Eric Clapton (I cant think of a better example)

Yours is no disgrace, by Yes. Great band from the progressive rock era of the late 60's to mid 70's. Umm... They're still around you know... I got to meet them in 2000 or 2001. My dad won a contest, and we got backstage V.I.P. passes.

A Wolf At The Door- Radiohead. I've kept on going back to the beginning and lissening to it over and over, cuz I'm trying to get it on guitar. In my opinion, it's the best track on Hail to the Thief. Uhmm... yeah. It's radiohead, do I even have to explain?
Rhyme & Reason- Dave Matthews Band. Another fairly well-known band... love what these guys do. They only need like, one guitar line and a bunch of horns, and they can make anything amazing.
Dirty Dream Number Two- Belle & Sebastian. Amazing band from... Wales? Scotland? UK. Somewhere over there. Seven-piece, and amazing vocals as well. I was gonna go see them live in Battery Park today, but I couldn't get tickets. DX
Steady As She Goes- The Raconteurs. Jack White's new band. And if anyone says they dunno who Jack White is, I'll be a bit upset.
Monty Got a Raw Deal- R.E.M. Don't even need to explain. EVERYONE loves R.E.M.
Trouble Breathing- Alkaline Trio. A great punk band. They can get depressy as hell sometimes, but whatever shit they do in the lyrics never seems to stop the music itself. They're great, and I'm congratulating myself for learning the intro to this song yesterday. ^_^
Taxi Driver- Gym Class Heroes. An awesome indie hip-hop band. This song's great, and it's pretty damn amazing in that he incorporates the name of a band into just about every line. Don't expect mny GOOD bands, but... ^_^;;

@throes: Oh, nop doubt they are still around. I was just giving the dates for the Progressive rock/Acid rock era, whatever you want to call. THATS FREAKING AWESOME YOU GOT TO SEE THEM!!!!!!! sorry for the little misunderstanding.
Thor, covered by Therion. It was originally done by a cheesy metal band called Manowar. They are credited as the loudest band in the world, or something, big deal, but this is a good cover.
Back in the Village, by Iron Maiden, album-Powerslave. This is my favorite song from the album.
Victoria's Secret, by Sonata Arctica. This band is from Finland. Their music reminds me of Nightwish, another metal band from Finland.
Soldier Blue, by The Cult, album-Sonic Temple. This band is GREAT! Some of their music might sound a little cheesy, but its powerful. This is just a good song to rock out to, and my favorite on the album.
Stand Alone, by Iced Earth, album Something Wicked this way comes. This band is straight up metal! Lovely, I think you would like them. Fast paced, aggressive, good-asskicking music, along with some nice slower softer songs. Just avoid their first and most recent album.
1776, Iced Earth. I guess the small patriot inside of me wants to listen to this instrumental.

I'll post some more random songs
"HELP" by YUI- Bright, upbeat song. Not my favorite of hers, but good nonetheless.
"God Help the Outcasts" from Hunchback of Notre Dame- Yes, I have Disney music on my playlist. I really love this song, and the lyrics really make you think.
"Mata Aerukara" by See-Saw- What would a songlisting be without more Kajiura music? Yes, I have far too much of it. The song is clearly her style, but it really doesn't remind me of the stuff from .hack or Mai-HiME/Otome, or Tsubasa. It's a ballad, but a bit more upbeat than most ballads.
"a tiny sunshine" from Tsubasa Chronicles- It's chaos picking the songs, not me! Blame him for all the Kajiura stuff!! ((considering it's 32 hours 'til the Kajiura music-filled Xeno3 comes out, can you really?)) Light and airy, mainly a flute carrying the melody. I want sheet music for this.
"Hamutaro Tottoko Uta Mata Tsuzuki Dechu!" by the HamHams- The original OP for Tottoko Hamutaro, Tottoko no Uta, but sung by all of the cast. Utter cuteness.

@throes: Oh, nop doubt they are still around. I was just giving the dates for the Progressive rock/Acid rock era, whatever you want to call. THATS FREAKING AWESOME YOU GOT TO SEE THEM!!!!!!! sorry for the little misunderstanding. Yeah, well, that is around the time when they were formed. And I have seen the band many times, as I've been to alot of the concerts. It was just that one where my dad won the trip to London that we actually got to go backstage and MEET them. I have a picture, and an autographed album to prove it too... The only one that was a member during that time that I didn't get an autograph from was Igor Khoroshev... He was already smashed beyond recognition by the time I got to him... When I got to Billy Sherwood, who during the concert made the binocular hand gesture while on stage, since I had been using binoculars to get a closer look. He seemed somewhat surprised that I came up to him later and mentioned it to him... Anyways, some songs I'm listening to today are "Siberian Khatru" by Yes, Buried Alive from that Rick Wakeman album provided by Resurie, "Albequerque" by Weird Al, and that's pretty much it for now...

Throes, that is just too cool!!!!! I'd love to see them in concert. My stepdad has a lot of their albums. I'm pretty sure he has seen them. I might go through his saved ticket stubs to find out.
Now another great band from that time: Emerson, Lake & Palmer. OMG I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM!!!!! (Sadly, I doubt they'd play again together) Their music is just so different. They went way beyond King Crimson. My stepdad has seen them in concert. There are some Live videos on Youtube.
Trilogy, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, album- Trilogy. Awesome song. Keith Emerson= a God. Greg Lake is my favorite singer.
I cant really compare him to wakeman because I haven't heard enough of his music. Emerson is phenomenal!
Hmm, songs for $th of July evening:
Hold Back the Day, by Devildriver. I saw this band a few years ago. They opened for Opeth. I was front row and I got their set list. They are a pretty good death metal band.
Am I 1, by Dark Tranquility, album- Character. I really love this band's sound. This is one of my favorite songs. Turn this one up loud enough and the guitars will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. This band is from Gothenburg, Sweden.
To-wards the Pantheon, Emperor, Into the Nightside Eclipse. This IS black metal. Very raw sound, atmospheric, double bass drum blast beats, Fast shred guitars. The singer sounds like the Nazgul from Lord of the Rings. Either that or the Fell Beasts they rode. This band is from Norway. This song is like falling from heaven, smacking dead into the earth, and then descending into hell.
Down to Mexico, by Paul Gilbert. Good change from what I just listened to. Paul Gilbert is an excellent guitar player. In the 80's he played guitar for the band Mr. Big.

Reflection by Christina Aguilera (don't hit me for misspelling ) A very pretty song that helps me think sometimes. For You I will by Monica: Another thinking song for me, I don't know if I could call it a ballad or not. This was sung during the credits of the Space Jam movie. I Believe I Can Fly by R. Kelly: Once again, done for the Space Jam movie... although it's the only R. Kelly song that I like. When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston: Simply a beautiful song done for the Prince of Egypt movie. But the one I'm talking about wasn't played in the movie, however it was sung near the end of the credits. I wonder how Ms. Houston's doing right now... Get There by Boys II Men: See the above. Darkwing Duck: Yes, I watched/ listened to this one on Retrojunk.com... reminded me of the old days when effort was put into openings. Okay, later!

Well, today I went over to my dads house and filched some of (17) my dad's Yes albums. Well, I have an updated list of songs...
"Homeworld (The Ladder)" - This song was inspired by a PC videogame of the same title -"Homeworld"-. It's also the song my dad remixed online to win the competition that got us an all expenses paid trip to London. However, it didn't include the price of passports, or the extensions my mom decided to add.
"Lightning Strikes" - Also from the album "The Ladder," the upbeated-ness of the song makes it most enjoyable.
"Yours Is No Disgrace" - Moving onto "The Yes Album," this song, as well as most of Yes' songs are masterfully concieved, written, and performed.
"The Clap" - Also from "The Yes Album," The Clap, while having absolutely NOTHING to do with Gonnorhea, seems to have gotten it's name from the way people reacted to Steve Howe's soloing. The clapping is very evident on the track, even though on my copy, somehow "The Clap" got cut off at 17 seconds, and the following track seems to have gotten the rest of the song, still some good guitar playing.
"Starship Troopers" - The next track on "The Yes Album," the one that ate most of the previous track, is really 3 movements. The first movement is entitled "Life seeker," the second is called "Disillusion," and the third one is entitled, "Würm." A very enjoyable track, a must for Yes fans.
"I've Seen All Good People" - Another Yes song from "The Yes Album," this song is probably more well known amongst people than some of the other ones, and is often heard on classic rock stations. This song is 2 movements long, they are "Your move" and "All good people."
You know what, instead of go into more detail on the next 2 songs, I'll just say that the whole of "The Yes Album" is good, and leave it at that.
Moving on to what's probably the most known Yes song, "Roundabout." This song is off of their album "Fragile" and is probably the most played Yes song on radios. Another one of their most played songs are "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" from the album named after it's own catalog number, "90125."
I'm gonna end with 2 more. The first being "Magnification" from the album of the same title, and the second being "The Gates of Delirium" from their album Relayer, the one where I personally went around and got the signatures of the Yes band members -Igor Khoroshev.
[story time]I went through the signatures on it and tried to discern who signed, I figured them all out, although some are hard to read, and one is smeared. The first two I figured out were Billy Sherwood's and Jon Anderson. Billy's signature was the most clear of the bands, and Jon's was just so unique with the huge cursive "J". The next signature I figured out was Steve Howe's, which is awesomely just his initials underlined. "SH." After that, I had 2 more I had to figure out, once I was able to make out Alan White's last name, it was easy. The smeared one would be Chris Squire, or the band's Bass Guitarist (at the time). My dad picked out the album he wanted signed, not me. If it were me, I'd have them sign the album they were touring for, not a previous release, but it is unique, that's for sure.[/story time]
