Today's ep was a fun ep, ne? Of course, there were a few things that bothered me. Isn't there always? xD But I'll leave the comparisons to our Lovely. :D
Anyways, you guys shoulda figured out by now that I have an ear for voices, so I guess the least I could do is point out who's who in these eps. Today, I'll just do the new characters since I'm sure you guys probably already have everyone else figured out.
Tammy = Veronica Taylor
Her spirits = Andrew Rannels and... possibly Eric Stuart? o_O That one I'm uncertain about.
Elly = Kerry Williams
Millie = That girl who did Tails' voice on Sonic X (anyone know her name? xD)
Any comments/opinions about the ep? Or questions about the voices? Post here. :D#nosmileys

I wasn't a fan of Veronica Taylor until I saw Kare Kano.
I could care less about her Ash Ketchum voice (to this day it just doesn't sound right at all...) but her amazing voice work for Yukino Miyazawa makes me glad that she's being used for a similar voice in this series.
The performance however sounded kind of bland in this episode...I dunno...maybe bad voice direction or she's still trying to find the character? The short glimpse from last episode was good.
On the other end of that...the voice actors for her spirits last episode grated on my nerves, but they sounded okay this episode...I dunno again...
(I know I'm going to get alot of flak for this one)
And as for the older sister (Millie, Ellie...I don't remember who was who) if I was the western dubbing company, I would have given her a valley girl accent too...the character reeked of valley girl...clothes, hairstyle, the way the character held herself when she stood, pointed, did anything...all stereotypical valley girl.
Does anyone know what her original eastern dialect was for the Japanese run? I'm willing to bet it was something that equates into the western accent for valley girls.
And comments on the aformentioned Veronica Taylor's performance are more than welcomed!

Agreed. Sounds like the poor kid's got a constant sore throat or something. :\

Also agreed. Honestly, her Tammy voice sounds a lot like her May (Pokemon) voice. However, I think she was trying a little too hard to pull off the voice, and it came off like she was a little kid. Maybe after a couple eps it'll become better.
Random: Is it just me, or did Ryu look like some type of child molester when he was walking towards Tamao like that? xD

Hehehehe, put a girl in front of Ryu and you never know what he'll be like. Also, I kind of need to ask this. Does anyone know if Veronica Taylor ever did any voices for the dubbed Slayers series...Specifically Amelia? I was listening to Tammy/Tamao's voice to see if I recognized it from somewhere and it kept reminding me of Amelia.  |

This weeks thoughts on the Shaman King dub [07 Mar 2004]
STOP MENTIONING HAMBURGERS, OH GOD, PLEASE MAKE THEM STOP MENTIONING HAMBURGERS!
*cough* besides, that, the episode was surprisingly accurate (up to a point). I was happy at first because my thoughts ran like this --- "Woo hoo! easy episode comparison XD ! " . (especially good considering I'm behind a week ;_; *cough*...)
Then "the point" came up. Mostly, they cut out that Tamao (erm... Tamera in the dub) has a crush on Yoh. They also added a reference to a totally new character named Loche 0_o. Why? I do not know.
Concerning voices:
Last week, I was annoyed with the "Valley Girl" accent they gave Elly (I strongly dislike Valley-girl accents.) This week, I had to admit that the voice actually sort of fit her character ^^; . I like Milly's voice, and I really Love Tamao's (Tammy's) dub voice. I still hate Mikihisa's
Anyhoo, I just discovered from you people today, that Tammy's voice is Veronica Taylor from KareKano fame. So I suppose that's why I like it ^^; . I too agree that I prefer her in female roles as opposed to her male roles.

To Lovely: Do you need help with the comparisions? I have school on Saturday mornings and usually set my vcr timer to record SK every week anyway.
To everyone else: Apologies, but I think I was wrong on a voice (possibly two). After watching/listening to the ep a couple times over, I figured that Tara does not do Millie's voice. Tara is Anna. Millie's voice is actually the voice of Tails on Sonic X, but I don't know her name yet. So lemme look that up real quick and I'll edit that entry when I find out her name.

As I once heard someone else say, "Ryu just likes ANYTHING cute.... and in once case, convenient." *laughs* Ah anyhoo, I changed the topic title just a bit, because when I finish the comparison of this episode I'll be linking to this thread. I'm just about to start writing the comparison and I just finished watching the original episode (funny stuff man  ...) . Unfortunately, this episode comparison won't have any screencaps because apparently my copy of this episode is in the wrong format for me to even TAKE screencaps @_@ . Sorry everyone ^^;. EDIT: Fiiiiiniiiished~.... Aah, this episode was a joy to write. It was easy ;D. Besides the lock thing the dub was actually a really accurate translation this week  . |
