If it wouldn't be a lot of trouble, I would like it if you guys would start a new thread for each dub episode. Only because I like to have the comparisons link to the specific episode topic. Thank you ^_^; .
That said, I just finished watching the dub of episode 19 and here are my thoughts:
I was rather disapointed with this episode (especially considering how good the last dub episode was.)
Well, there was no mention of hamburgers this time... only... soy burgers 0_o . The re-occuring theme of a soap opera wasn't in the original either.
This episode had a bunch of funny bits in the original that lost a lot of its charms in the dub-rewrite. For example the fact that the officiating preists are so broke they can't afford any good meals. While, this scene was basically in the dub, it just wasn't as funny *shrugs*.
Erm... for some reason the dub is calling Ren's father his Uncle. I guess if a family member is cruel to you, it's better for it to be your Uncle 0_o . Dub logic ^o^ .
The scene where Tamao and Anna have a conversation together was a good deal more sympathetic in the original, and was a good character development scene for Anna. The dub re-wrote the entire scene completely *sigh*.
Ah well, hopefully the next episode will be better. Episode 20 ends in a way that I never expected and it's fun, so hopefully they won't mess with it too much.

Well, I just have to say this. I'm glad they're acknowledging Tamao's little crush. I mean, there wouldn't have been any other good reason for her to blush and act nervous around Yoh. If they tried to re-write it, it would have been a real disaster. But.....
...Did they absolutely have to exaggerate it to the extent that they did?! It just kind of irked me that they did that. Probably cause I kind of admire Tamao's...self-control is the best term I can think of (the fact she had a crush on Yoh, but decided to leave him alone because of Anna). The dub went overboard.
They at least did Yoh and Ren's fight well. They kept all the strategies and what was happening in tact. And, there were some funny bits. At least 4Kids has some kind of sense of humor.....They kept the scene with Yoh changing into his battle outfit in the cemetary! I LOVE that scene, it's hilarious!!! ;D
I still think the attack names suck, though it sounds like they kept a few of the original name's for some of Ren's attacks. And Bason's voice...not terrible, there are definately worse, but still kind of weird.
Okay, I'm done. ;D

Either I'm hearing things, or they actually called Ren's Kwan Dao a Kwan Dao! Heh, better than calling it a sword like they did in ep.3....and what IS it with 4Kids and their hamburgers?

oh, the soap-opera was dub addition? meh, i guess u really cant expect that kind of thing to come from the original, now can you? u know, out of all the episodes they showed for shaman king so far, my vcr wouldnt record episode 18 until we FINALLY bothered to try and fix it later that night!!!! feh....not only that, but the first half of what i taped this past saturday was ruined. RUINED! yeah, the battle was pretty good, considering the horo-horo fight....sigh. man, this upcoming episode BETTER be more.....accurate.

Well, I thought the soap opera thing was really funny :/but i'm also a veeery cheesy person ;D and also, yes they DID exagerrate the whole Tamao crush thing- in a way without someone yelling "TAMAO LOOOVES YOH, SHE WANTS TO KIIIISS HIM-" no wait Amidamaru goes "I think Tamera may have affections for you.", so n/m. Ai jeez, 'affections'. What a stupid word. ANYWAY, I think it was emphasized because it was COMPLETELY left out of the previous episode.

Yeah, the exagerrated crush was probably one of many (to come, most likely) incidents at 4Kids that went along the lines of this:
"What the......We can't keep this in the show! Little kids are gonna see this!....Wait, we can't write it out. It shows up too much later....Oh well, we'll work with it."
I'm still convinced that something like that was the reason they suddenly had reruns just as Faust was gonna show up. Probably took them a month at least to paint over everything (crosses, bullet holes, ect. ). ;D

I have to tip my hat as well for the Soap Opera dialogue...that was incredibly well done how it all relates back to Anna, Tamara, and Yoh.
