Ep 20

Just a few thoughts I had about episode 20...
This is actually one of my favorite episodes yet. :D Honestly, I liked the latter part of the episode, rather than the battle itself.
Wasn't Manta cute jumping around after the match, though? ^.^
Well, Lisa Ortiz is starting to sound more like herself. Dunno it this is a good thing or a bad thing considering I don't know what Jun sounds like in Japanese. But Lisa doesn't have a bad voice, in my opinion.
And is it just me, or do Ren and Jun have the BIGGEST father EVER? xD
Anyway, my favorite part of this episode what that little party they had. Although it was probably obvious that there were dub edits and additions, I was still amused. Probably the most obvious edit was when Yoh, Manta, and HoroHoro were ready to get into the pool and Ren refused. xD No one wears briefs under boxers. xD
And... I could go into some yaoi fangirlism right now, but I'm not going to, since I know that there are people that don't take it too kindly. xD But I think Anna and Yoh looked cute together while they were talking after Ren left, though. ^^
Comments and opinions, post here. :D

Seeing as how I've never seen the original Japanese version, I was surprised where the episode went. Both my fiance and I saw the tie match coming, but the 2nd half took me completely by surprise.
I loved the part when Len was poking Yoh with his hair. I thought that was a really funny moment.

I haven't seen the dub episode yet (don't worry- I have it on tape.) , but I just had to say that Ren poking Yoh with his hair is one of my favorite moments in the entire series ;D.
When I originally watched Shaman King, at first, I figured it was going to be a standard fighting anime. With Yoh defeating all oponents. Yoh training. And in the end, Yoh defeating the big bad, Ren Tao. As you all know, my perceptions changed after the Faust episodes. And after that, many episodes gave me wonderful surprises. This episode is one of the "wonderful suprises" episode. I never expected Ren to become a "good guy". And the light heartedness that this episode took caught me by complete surprise. (Not to mention it was funny as all heck.)
Well, that's just my 2 cents. I suppose I should hurry up and watch the dub and make the comparisons, right ^_~ ? *crosses fingers about the quality*

Ooh, yeah, the hair poke, no doubt. :P It's so out of character and silly that it's great to see such a serious character doing that. xD
Edit: Tis my 50th post! Whoo!

I loved the hair poking thing. I was mildly suprised that 4Kids kept the whole "Yoh is like wind" thing almost completely intact, it seemed like something they'd get rid of for some odd dubber reason. Not that I'm complaining

This is one of my favorite episodes out of the whole series. Ren and Yoh having a spaz fest all over each other after one of the more dramatic fights out of the series. Then all the fighting and gags at the party. It's just hilarious! ;D
I'm disappointed at all the lines they changed, but I'll admit that the VCR jokes with 'Trey' was funny.

Well, I just got back from watching the original and the dub of Shaman King episode 20. Good stuff ^_^ . (as a side note, because I'm going to be taking a trip to Arizona this week. This weeks comparison will probably be a week late.) Anyways, After my disapointment with the adaptation of episode 19, episode 20 pleasantly surprised me. A few jokes were cut or changed here and there (one was a necessary change because it was based on a Japanese pun), but not bad at all. Also, a few of the added jokes were ACTUALLY funny for once (ussually when the dub adds jokes they tend to be unfunny and/or mean spirited.) Even a touching scene that Yoh has with Anna was left basically in tact. Just a few things to note: A joke that was cut, that I'm sad to see go: The reason Yoh was upset with Ren after their fight ended wasn't so much because he thought he lost and couldn't continue on with the Shaman Fight. It was because he thought he lost, AND that Anna was going to punish him ^.^ . Yoh: NOOOO!!! Anna's gonna punish me!!! Yoh: *points at Ren* If I'm going to get punished, then YOU'RE gonna get punished by Anna too!!!! Ren: Wha?? Why me??!!! Yoh: 'Cause you were all showing off and giving speaches!!!! XD I noticed that in the dub, it kind of skips over the fact that it was REN who assumed that people were "-dirty" (as in their souls). This was because of the things he had seen and the way his father treated him. *shrugs* Well, the dub says it, just in a kind of round-a-bout way. Oh, another thing that the dub did right was having Bason refer to Yoh as "Master Yoh" and Ren as "Master Ren". It's true, in the original Bason refered to the two of them very politely. Bason originally callled Yoh, "Yoh-sama" and Ren as "Bouchama" (which translates to, "Young Master".) Oh yes, once again the dub made a reference to hamburgers, so... I guess, they don't intend to stop ;_; . NEXT WEEK: Hao gets mentioned. And ZenRyo/BoZ gets introduced. I noticed I really like goofy (but cool) characters and ZenRyo are as goofy as it gets. I pray to God they get good voices who can pull it off (the Goofy/cool I mean). The two insert songs will probably be changed though, and that makes me sad . The two songs are cool !

Yeah. :P That was funny because you wouldn't think that Ren would be sensitive enough to care that HoroHoro said he had a 'birdie chest' and was all embarrassed. xD

Yeah. That was funny because you wouldn't think that Ren would be sensitive enough to care that HoroHoro said he had a 'birdie chest' and was all embarrassed. xD He does?? When?? *haven't been able to find ep. -.-* He doesn't in the original... The only thing I remember Horo saying to Ren, is teasing him with his name (Taoreru = fall down/over XD), and then asking him if he was too imbarresd to take off his clothes. How did they manage to stuff that in there??

man, this episode rocked!! ;D ok, just forget what i sad about it being a close-to-terrible dub. yeah, that whole hair poking thing was hilarious-i think its great that Ren's hair displays how angry he is. this episode was pretty well-dubed compared to the others (but not as much as episode 20!). i cant wait to see the nex episode....Hao better not be called "Harry" (according to wat other people are guessing on the net) or not have "Hao" mispronounced. also....NO BAD VOICE-OVERS!
