Dubbing Logic?

Well, we've all seen how the American Dubs come out; usually awful. Anyone care to guess at what their screwy logic is? I think this.

1.To let the kids think the company made the anime.
2.Asia must never be revealed to little kids!
3.PG-13 animes are REALLY great animes to dub. [/sarcasm]
4.Being bilingual is poison.
5.I'm half-asleep so, you guys come up with more.
6.Oh yeah, also, being relaxed is bad, characters must be mean, cruel, bitter, conceited, stuck-up, bratty, and be 'dynamic'.

*shudders* These people have screwed up standards. They're making the dear Manta so weird! Next thing you know they're gonna put glasses on him. And Yoh will suddenly act prep-ish. *notched bazooka at 4kids company.*

Shouldn't this be in the general anime section since it really isn't Shaman King related?

Anyways...

Unfortunately much of the mindset in the US for animation is that it has to be for kids. So this sometimes ends up leading to a messed up dub. But I really think they've gotten a little better over the years. There are still some dubs where you sit there wondering what they were on when they wrote it because it doesn't make any sense (astroboy). Other instances is when the dubbing company really isn't at fault. Take Fox's version of Escaflowne. The actual dub is great, but Fox butchered the thing where I couldn't even follow it and this was back when I was in high school that it came out. Or you get WB taking Cardcaptors and only showing specific episodes to target it at boys instead of girls.

I myself don't think it's always the dubbing companies fault. There are some good dubs out there as well as bad. But sometimes other factors have to be taken into consideration.

I don't mind the Shaman King dub. I haven't seen the Japanese version and would like to so I can compare it.
