I wonder why the names were changed in BOTH the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime and manga! - Esp. since the anime airs on Adult Swim. That was the fault of Toei. You see, all of the sudden Toei had this idea that shows had to be dumbed down for American audiences, so they made FUNimation change the names. EVERY name. There are like three names that were kept the same - Conan Edogawa, Yoko Okino, and Yuko Ikisawa. But the last two are minor characters, and the first one is the main character's alias.

If I were Viz, I would have defied that (Not in the case of the title, but the character names) - I wouldn't call it necessairly "dumbing down" - but it's still annoying as the anime is on Adult Swim. That was the fault of Toei. You see, all of the sudden Toei had this idea that shows had to be dumbed down for American audiences, so they made FUNimation change the names. EVERY name.
