Well, there are some who don't have computers and that's likely because they don't have money, not everyone has a computer you know. And I'm currently making a site for translations too for Shaman King so that's for those who have computers so I understand what you mean but um, people could read the manga too. ^_^;;

I have a computer and I've only watched the dub. I don't mind the dub. I would like to see the original once the DVDs are released so I've decided to wait.

Well, lots of the dub names make my eyes/ears bleed(Zeke?! Morty?! Trey?!), and I'm sure that they make others' eyes/ears bleed too. Anyway, the dub is pretty bad. IMO, for a dub to be good, it must:
Have as accurate a translation as possible(so, changing a Japanese pun that makes no sense in English is OK, but needlessly changing, say, Manta's dictionary to a ghost stories book is not)
Keep the original music(there is never a need to change it.)
Keep the original names
Don't cut anything/too much out(if cutting some stuff is what it takes to get it to air on TV, then it's fine as long as it's not anything important AND there's an uncut version somewhere)
Don't Americanize things(this should fall under "accurate translation", but this happens too much for my liking.)
There's some other things, but you get the jist of it. Anyway, 4Kids has a tendancy to do the things I just listed. They do them to Shaman King as well. Worse yet, they seem to have a phobia of releasing DVDs w/ JP voice tracks that are uncut.

Well, lots of the dub names make my eyes/ears bleed(Zeke?! Morty?! Trey?!), and I'm sure that they make others' eyes/ears bleed too. Anyway, the dub is pretty bad. Name changes don't make it a bad dub in my opinion. Stupid names do make the dub kind of annoying. But if they are reasonable changes I really don't mind them. My recent gripe is changing Shinichi Kudo in Detective Conan to Jimmy Kudo. Jimmy just seems too childish for a high school student. IMO, for a dub to be good, it must: Have as accurate a translation as possible(so, changing a Japanese pun that makes no sense in English is OK, but needlessly changing, say, Manta's dictionary to a ghost stories book is not) Having a good and accurate translation is always good. But I'm for having the story make sense no matter how it is told. If they can't write it and have it make sense then it's a bad dub no matter if they follow the original to the core or not. Keep the original music(there is never a need to change it.) This does not make a bad dub. Sometimes the US music is a lot better than the Japanese and sometimes it isn't. I've been watching the Sailor Moon first season uncut and some of the music on there is pretty terrible. The DIC music was a whole lot better in my opinion. Everytime I hear Sailor Moon's transformation music it makes me want to laugh. I think I already addressed this issue up above. Don't cut anything/too much out(if cutting some stuff is what it takes to get it to air on TV, then it's fine as long as it's not anything important AND there's an uncut version somewhere) I don't mind translated signs in the backgrounds or whatever as long as it's done well. 4kids cutting out all the kanji wherever it was and not replacing it with anything was pretty stupid. Especially the little scroll seals Jun has, I couldn't figure out what they were at first, sticky notes? Nope, those weren't sticky notes, but they sure looked like it at first. Don't Americanize things(this should fall under "accurate translation", but this happens too much for my liking.) Sometimes you have to. Not many in the US eat rice balls or sushi or drink sake. Most kids won't even know anything about that until they research it. If they want to put it back in the uncut dub then that's great. But I'm not going to care if Yoh wants to eat a cheeseburger as opposed to a bowl of rice. As long as they aren't showing him eating the bowl of rice and saying he's eating a cheeseburger then I'm fine with it. There's some other things, but you get the jist of it. Anyway, 4Kids has a tendancy to do the things I just listed. They do them to Shaman King as well. Worse yet, they seem to have a phobia of releasing DVDs w/ JP voice tracks that are uncut. 4kids normally doesn't release DVDs, that's up to a seperate company like FUNimation or ADV. Companies buy rights from 4kids to make and sell products based on the show. 4kids is just using the show as a giant advertisement along with the rest of their shows.

Actually for a while, 4kids wouldn't even sublicence the japanese language versions of things to other companies. Yu Gi Oh and Shaman King is the first time they've even tried.
And they still won't do it for Pokemon (they don't believe the market is there to buy it.)
And well... food name changes, I dunno, I think "rice ball" is pretty self explanitory...

I read the Mangas, I watch the dubbed Versions in the morning when I'm bored though, I'd say the Manga makes things a lot better, much more detail, the show leaves out so many things

Yeah, Morti(Manta) cussed in the Manga and the first two Volumes of the manga had a lot more in them then the episodes contained.

As much as I agree that 4Kids entertainment is bad at dubbing, when I was comparing the changes I noticed one thing that any redub has to bear in mind. That is that you need to get everything in in a set amount of syllables. But I wish Disney dubbed a bit more, they did the redub of Spirited away and they did a pretty good job. As for the adding things on digitally, certs are tighter in the Western Civilisation, I mean look at Soul Caliber II, is was raised from 11+ in Japan to 16+ in the UK.

I don't have the internet... I used to watch dubbed till my friend told me about the real SK... she has the anime and manga so I watched it (and bought it).. That's why as a fan, you must become a missionary and spread the words to dubbed fans..

When shows are targeted towards younger kids, names are Americanized as so they don't get confused by "wierd" names. My 7-year old cousin learned how to pronounce "Jonouchi", though. I wonder why the names were changed in BOTH the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime and manga! - Esp. since the anime airs on Adult Swim. Well, lots of the dub names make my eyes/ears bleed(Zeke?!
