Epi 47: Super Ryu XD !

[Lovely]

A Ryu-centric episode. Good for Ryu fans ^_~ ! A lot of cute visual gags in this one.
Ooh~! One thing to point out. In the JAPANESE version of this episode they have some ON SCREEN text to explain one of Choco's Jokes ^^; . I mean... WOW. When they have to explain the Japanese have to explain a pun in their own language you know it's gotta be pretty bad ^^; .
The people who subed my fansubs even added some notes at the BEGINING of the episode ot explain some of the things Choco says ^^; . Poor guy ^^; .

Note style spoilers and thoughts and the like ^_~ .

*A smile costs $5 patch dollars XD , that's more than the cost of a burger! Heh, that made me smile and sort of think of Saturn's RP character ^^ .
Oh! and lets not forget PatchDnald! Or the wonderful Patch Burgers you can buy when you are watching a Shaman Fight ^o^ .

*A note on currency. Patch dollars are written with this "$" symbol. The monetary system actually is based on US dollars. You can tell by the handy currency exchange chart.

*A joke I REALLY didn't get until I read the manga concerns Faust.
A visual gag of him being hooked up to SOMETHING and sort of... tripping out ^^;. When I first saw this scene (and before I read the manga) I thought he was taking food interveniously and was just really happy about it. You see, the anime never says exactly what he's doing. It never even mentions it except marking the bags with "for lunch" or "for dinner"
Then... I read the manga. The stuff he is taking? It's probably the drug Morphine ^^; . The dub is soooooo going to add some dialog to explain this away. It's pretty hilarious though.

*You know how I said that Ren's current oversoul seems to be a parody of giant robot anime? The Shaman King anime obviously thinks so too XD .

*Ren and his neverending urge to eat Chinese food. And force his teamates to eat it as well ^^; .

*Manta is cute this episode ^^ ! ... and once again mistaken as a spirit ^^;.

*Team Arabian is the opposing team this week. One of the guys attitudes is obviously based on how people in the Middle East think about the "western" world and how we are evil. I found this interesting in light of the war going on now. I... doubt that this attitude will carry through in the 4kids dub. Probably due to the war.

*Dude slapping his fiance will be cut (I was actually surprised when I saw the slap. I haven't seen this episode for a while and I had forgot a lot of things about it.)

*The Shaman King characters are watching anime in the U.S and comment about it XD . I thought that was cute. the show they are watching is called "Kokkuri Angel" and is based on a couple of extra stories that Takei (the original manga author) wrote/illustrated. It's a magical girl show with Tamao as the main character ^o^ .

*Nobody watches Team Funbari Onsen's first match. Awwww...
Oh, by the way, Yoh's new battle outfit makes its first apperance this episode. It originally said "Funbari Onsen" on the back in Japanese. Good chance it will be ereased in the dub.

*This episode has a very abrupt ending. But it's kind of cool in that way ^^ .

That's it. Like Ren's episode, not THAT much really happens. But if you are a Ryu fan, you will probably love this episode.

*ahem* Well, I never really cared for this episode...o_O But it DOES have some hilarious moments. XD These moments are what make me watch this episode more than once. xD

I'm serious, **especially the first scene with Yoh. XD He looks so cute with the dark aura around him. xD! And how everyone reacted when Anna said "How about some...training?" XDDD Oh! And when she took her own tea out! xD

This is a very good Ep, lots or Rio and just overall good I felt. The UK's run of repeats has finally caught up with the US so I can comment on this aswell as i saw it last night

Spoilers + thoughts**Can't say I saw any Faust drug related stuff, when abouts does it happen in the EP?

Team Arabia is changed to Team Parthian; just done a quick search and the Parthian Empire is part of Persian history. Reasonable change, avoiding modern day country names but maintaining the overall feel

The actual impact of the slap is cut but you see the wind up and her fall to the ground.

The feel of hatred against the West is kept aswell, its more directed towards Rio and his sacred hang idea though. Along the lines of 'the west is rich in goods yet ontop of that you ask for this sacred hang and expect nature to pay for it'.

It also keeps the attitude towards women, where his fiance is not allowed to question him in public and must obey him.

Theres a mention of the guy being a Mystic class Shaman. Perhaps Lovely can say if that was meant to be Kami/God. If it was meant to be God class they likely didn't use immortal like in the previous dub ep becuase Egytians are tied to immortality while genies are more a mystical entity.

What was Rio doing in that very last shot? It kinda looks like hes been deliberatly cut out by zooming in more on Yoh because hes making some strange montion/gesture.

Well, all visual drug references have been cut so it looks more like he's just going crazy (although when he's rambling on in the begining I could have sworn I heard him say 'pelvic thrust' somewhere 0.o ... but it may just be he hearing things again.)

Yeah, they made it seem like he was protesting against training spastically, and "no more pelvic thrusts!" was in the middle of his rant.

And when they were eating, Joko commented, "Um, guys? I think Faust nees a glass of water or something..."

And Tami's Anime appearence turned into her having been asked by Kalim to broadcast the matches for the day. I wish I had the script for that scene - they were all talking at once, and what I heard was funny, but I just wish I could have heard it all!
