Well at first I thought that Ren having a British accent could make alittle sence since he lived in China which was a British province, But after the episode with Rens father that theory just fell apart.

I wondered a great deal about Ren and his father. Why did 4kids change En to his uncle? Is it because all fathers are loving, caring and warm to their sons in the world? "If this man is being mean to Ren, he can't possibly be his father, let's make him his uncle." I'm sure they didn't want to offend any viewers or scar any small children, but it bothered me. On a slightly unrelated subject, it is very amusing to watch the SK episodes to see how many words or phrases can be substituted for death.

Yeah, they don't wanna KILL people, they just want to HARM them, or DESTROY them, or make them PERISH! Hey, they is fun..... I can't thing of any others... OH they wanna sned them to the NEXT DIMENSION! ;D Well, I was bohtered by the fact they changed En from father to uncle. At least they didn't make him there master or something. I was expecting that. En: YOU MUST WIN AT ANY COST! Ren: Yes, Master En. Something like that, so 4Kids did a better job then I expected. .... but they still riuned a good part of the show.  |

Actually, China was not under British control. The mainland was free (hmm, feels strange using that word considering the whole political struggles with the Nationalists and the Communists and the "Communist" ruling). Hong Kong, on the other hand, was under British rule for a while until 1997. And for clarity, considering that the Tao home is located in a mountainous region, which I do not believe Hong Kong has, Ren probably is not from Hong Kong. 3. Actually, Greenfire, I think you can only go to the Shadow Realm in the world of Yugioh. Yes, it has been mentioned before. I don't remember what episode, but I was thinking "these kids aren't stupid." If I were in the 7-12 age group, (or whatever group they are targeting) I would know that the character is dying. My cousin (she's 8) asked me about episode 59 and the scene with Ren. She specifically asked why he wasn't bleeding. "Didn't that knife cut him?" was what she actually asked. Again, these kids aren't dumb. I know there are kids out there that wouldn't catch on so this is probably the best way to stay out of legal trouble?

Yes, early on in the Shaman King dub 4Kids had Jun say something like "Lee Pai Long and I will send you to the land of the no longer living!" The law of 4Kids is to write a guidebook on how to dub a show properly and do everything backwards. Uncut releases, meet cut releases. Accurate scripts, meet puns and jokes. Original score, meet techno and happy-go-lucky ditties about friendship. |
