the many mouths of Faust VIII

As some of you may have noticed, during the cource of the dub Shaman King series, Faust has two different voice actors (or maybe just one with a wide vocal range...).
Also, in the game released for PlayStation2 -Power of Spirit- in America, Faust VIII has yet another voice.

I created this thread in part to find a bit more about the voice actors. For instance, their names and other roles that they have each played, respectively.
For example, I know that Faust VIII the First (the dub Faust heard in eppisode sixteen) also voiced Arcana (Pandora) in the dub YuGiOh.
Also, feel free to comment on the original, Japanese voice of Faust VIII.
And people can talk about which voice they liked best, and which fit best, between the dubs, or the dubs and the Japanese Faust VIII.

I wasn't really sure where to put this, but I thought that since the main topic was 4KIDS dubbed Faust, to put it here.

Ok. As many of you know, I have always thought that Mr. Freeman would of made a PERFECT voice for Faust, however, it just wasn't to be *sigh*.

That said, I actually like BOTH of his English VA's. It took a bit to get used to the second one, but the second one does a good job on the transitions from normal to crazy. So yeah, I ended up liking it.

Ano... Lovely-san... who is this Crispin Freeman whom you always speak of? I am curious. Who else has he voiced? If he would do a good job at Faust VIII, I am interested in knowing what he sounds like.
Hai, Faust VIII the Second does grow on you. At first when Faust was coming back, I thought 'I hope that they don't change his voice.' I was a fan of dub Arcana's voice, because I related it to... dub Arcana. I liked the voice actor's voice when paired with Arcana ('oh my sweet Cath-er-ine.' I love the way he pronounces it )
When Faust VIII the Second first spoke, I thought 'NOOO! They changed it! Aag!' Demo, it has grown on me. Faust VIII I was good, but when Faust becomes soft-spoken, gentle Faust, it didn't fit as terrifically as the VA did crazy Faust, in my opinion. (Gome, voice actor-sensei)
Oh, and here was something that I wanted to talk about. When I first came up with this thread (before 4KIDS stopped releasing the DVDs), I wanted to know what people thought would be done with Faust VIII on the English dub track. Would Faust keep the voice that he originally had in his first 2-3 eppisode long appearance, then change to the new one later as in the series that aired on TV? Would Faust be re-dubbed so that Faust VIII II would be used throughout the entire run? Or would they use a different voice actor altogether? (dare to dream, Lovely-san!)

To Usagi: Crispin Freeman has voiced Zoro, Balmung, and Tsume... I think. My one friend really likes his voice.

I must ask one thing: Who else does Faust's seiyuu play the voice of? I was watching the japanese Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories trailer and I thought I heard his voice... Riku?

Hmm...Crispin could probably pull off a good Faust. =3 I love his voice. In answer to your question Usagi, here's some he;s done: Zelgadis(Slayers), Tsume(Wolf's Rain), Touga(Utena), Hideki(Chobits), and..wow, i can't think of anymore. ; But he's a really awesome VA! X3 His voice is so...sexy *o* It's what first started my love for Zel. o.o

Eh..I don't remember Faust's first VA. Before the stolen Oracle Bell ep., i hadn't seen much of the series. I remember though last summer it was like 6 in the morning and i was bored, so i looked through the guide thingy and turned on mankin. Then though, i didnt like it much, and didnt think it was my type of anime, ..and now its my favorite. xD; Anyway, it was a Faust ep...-_-; I really cant remember the voice though..because..>.> I was in uber-hyper-crazy-insomniac-Inu-mode at the time...and was rolling around and jumping on my bed instead of paying attention. ._.; So..i have to say...i like his current VA alright. o.o; A little pedoish at times..but..kinda Faustish. ;

Meh, I like Faust's second VA. The first was okay, but I think that he would have problems doing regular scenes or one that do not involve him acting like a psycho. Like others have said, the second Faust is good, except for the first time he appeared in episode 37, where he kind of came off whiny and Michael Jackson-ish talking to Anna.

Japanese Faust's voice is Takehito Koyasu. He is in almost EVERYTHING.
There was even a humerous article about this on AoD once.



Crispin Freeman is a voice you've all probably heard before, he's been in a a lot of games and anime.
Freemans has a WONDERFUL acting abilty. And he's very good at playing BOTH calm and totally insane characters. The best example of this is in the video game Xenosaga II . Where Crispin is playing two characters who are having a conversation with each other. One of the characters is a calm individual, whereas the other is a total lunatic. This whole scene is an incredibly thing to hear and see and it only further prooved to me that Freeman would of been the perfect Faust.

Ooh! and for more trivia. Mr Freeman USED to live in New York, so you can hear him in some older New York dubs (such as Revolutionary Girl Utena), however he now lives in California.

Y'know, now that I've listened to the demo reels, I'm really going to have to agree with you. I think that Crispin Freeman would have been a great choice to voice Faust. When it comes to the voice he had in the dub I can't really choose between them. The first had that sort of charm to it but the second as already mentioned, does grow on you after a while (although I can find it a little flat at times *bricked*)

I may be mistaken but I think in the anime dub Faust was voiced both times by Sam Regal but I could be wrong. And the game hasn't been released here yet so I can't really compare that. As for Takehiro Koyasu, I really like his singing, alot.

I wanted to see the Magics Users Club because of some pictures I saw and descriptions that I read, and I remember that I thought Ayanojyo sounded... interesting... but now I NEED to see that show. Faust's VA plays a major role!

I know the first one is Sam Regal. I..don't know any others. o.o; Sorry.

As for the Yugioh DVDs...I thought they were...but i'm not into Yugioh so i didn't check. ..If they are though, that's so unfair ><;

4kids has stopped all production of uncut DVDs. All they are releasing now is cut DVDs, with no plans in the future of making any more uncuts. FUNimation, who helped create the uncut DVDs, said 4kids requested that they stop making and releasing them. FUNimation also stated that they'll continue making uncut DVDs as soon as 4kids allows them to. Because 4kids doesn't intend on making any uncut DVDs anytime soon, I wouldn't expect to see any, ever, until 4kids goes down the tubes (which is hopefully soon), and companies like FUNimation take over the licenses.

^^; Off topic question: Is there any news of a cut mankin dvd release? =/ Even though uncut is best, I still want to see the many episodes of the series i missed...
